Stainless Steel Rope Wick IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

Just wanted to share my delight on my introduction to Stainless Steel Rope wick... Absolutely Amazeballs running 2mm Rope at 0.8 on my innokin VTR chucking out Vapour, and Flavour is exceptional filled it with EPIC juice APPLE JAX OMG in heaven no dry hits no real break in period hits like a champ.... I'm sold, ss mesh will be taking a backseat for a while

Vamos.... try a "diaper" of Ekowool or silica over the wire rope if you can. I had problems with hot spots until I put the "diaper" over the rope where the coil goes. Flavor is great!! I finally was able to get just the rope and coil to work OK as my coiling improved, but for no sweat coiling over steel rope, the diaper is great.

Rope is good stuff. I've used it with a small piece of mesh under just the coil area.

Not really a problem. Just pulse it out, until the coil glows evenly. Not much different than just setting up a mesh wick.

Or another option is to use cotton for the diaper. That's the way I do mine, means I can still use a micro-coil and just dry burn the coil and rope and replace the cotton every so often. SS rope is a superb vape, all my gennies run on it now

I think I'm having trouble visualizing how the cotton is applied to the rope and the sizing of the whole setup. Anything you could further add would be greatly appreciated....TIA

Make sure it is NOT galvanized SS rope. There is a thread somewhere on the forum about what rope to get. Something else about the number of strands or how they are arranged. I had already purchased mine and then saw the info about the strands. Got mine from the Mesh Co. in the U.K.

I got my SS cable from kidney puncher about a year ago and have loved using it in AGA tanks, topped with mesh. Also hoping to see pics of what Trouble has come up with using cotton as a topper.

To be honest my phone is terrible for taking pics. But I can describe the process quite well.

I use the vapemesh company too, being in the UK I normally get my supplies in a couple of days.

Basically it's exactly the same as an ekowool or mesh sleeve on the rope. Anyway here's my method :

Cut rope to length and build your micro coil. I usually go for a 2mm micro coil, fix it to the genie as normal. Then take your cotton wool ball and gently brush the end of the rope over the cotton. The rope will automatically pick up the cotton. Use a twisting action with the rope. Then roll the cotton between finger and thumb to compress it. Once the cotton gets to the stage where you can only just see the rope through it, that's enough. Wet the cotton and roll between thumb and finger again to compress it. Then slowly and carefully pop the rope through the coil and into the juice hole. Using a turning action, like screwing in a screw helps. If you can turn the rope in the opposite direction to the way you built up the cotton even better. Prime the cotton and vape as normal.

I've actually managed to use 2mm rope with a cotton sleeve in a 2mm coil, took about 5 minutes to get the rope in place properly - so I'd recommend using 1.5mm rope and a 2mm micro coil. The first time is pretty awkward. But as with everything else, practice makes perfect. I can dry burn the coil and rope, pop some fresh cotton on and be back vaping in minutes now.

I do think I'll start with smaller rope and learn the technique and maybe after that I'll try matching the 2mm coil to 2mm rope.

No problem at all, glad to help

I've found that the cotton also aids the wicking so you get superb flavour with this method. You do need to tilt slightly when vaping and I've never been a chain vaper, so I don't know how well it would stand up to this level of abuse

Any problems just get in touch. But once you suss it out it really is a great method. I've also tried a dual coil in my aga using this method, but only having a single airhole does limit vapour production a little, I have drilled out the airhole to 1.5mm though in the aga.

I always said nothing could beat a cotton wick in a gennie, then I tried SS rope - soon changed my mind

If it's anything like my to do list, it will be a long one I've got a Kraken sat here that one of my mates sent me, still not got round to building it yet. Spend too much time on here to be productive
