Wire ropes, cant get it to wick very well

Hi people

I recently purchased some diffrent wire ropes to try instead of using ss mesh.

I set up a Rsst with a 2mm rope, with a piece of mash on top so the coils can get better contact. Coil and everything works fine at my usual 1.7 ohms.

Well, im not pleased, it doesnt wick as well for me as 400 or 500 ss mesh, not sure whats wrong, but all my wire is 7x7 and i see some ropes are 7x19, is this the reason why i cant get it to wick well? the flavour isnt really that great either, kinda flat taste.

I torched the wick to get it red and glowing before putting it in, maybe that wasnt smart?

I also have 3mm 7x7 and i guess i can give that a try, idk how big of a diffrence that 1mm Ø will do.

Have a done something wrong somewhere or is it my rope thats not up to par?

Any thoughts and suggestions are very welcome

Seems like some tilting is necessary for a rope wick. Not a lot, but definitely some tilting. Wire rope doesn't seem to exhibit the same degree of capillary action that mesh does as far as upright spontaneous wicking goes. But a quick tilt and you should be wicking up a storm.
