Given your own perfect reasoning and logic ~ I'd opine GET BOTH! If not at one go - one at a time!

I was in your same shoes a few days back... chose the Standard with an extender cap... purely b'coz I'm used to vaping with 18500 & 18650s. Five days into it I now know that I need both! Why? B'coz I find the Provari, as everyone foretold, is frugal on batteries! Thus, even an 18350 could run a distance with it as never before!

As such, it really could be handy when up-n-about... b'coz, I get it, now! It will run my day with just one (or max two) additional spare 18350s in my pocket!

Which is why - let the dust settle a bit - and I'm getting one more ~ the P-Mini this time

... and immediately putting a GP sticker on it when no one is looking. Yeah, we know how you work. ;)

I own 3 standard sized ones & only have an extension for one, that one stays home all of the time. Honestly I thought they'd be bigger than it is when I ordered my first one but I like the size so I stuck with them. Even with my smaller hands I feel like it fits perfectly. Good luck choosing.

Even being a large guy, I still like the mini better, the FS is just too large for my wants. I like that I can throw the mini in a pocket T and not have to worry about it falling out. Even with the ext. cap on the mini, it's still 1/4" shorter than the FS in the same mode.
As for batteries, 18650 batteries are the standard for about every laptop in the world! Flashaholics and vapors combined don't even come close to scratching the surface of 18650's used!
18500's and '350's might go by the way side, I highly doubt it, but the 18650 isn't going anywhere any time soon!

As I said before while I love the quality of the Provari and it's ability to use standard batteries, I really can't detect a difference in vape quality.

The Innokin MVP and iTaste VV3 both use a higher PWM frequency just as the Provari does. I'm not surprised at all that you can not detect a difference in vape quality, as ALL THREE of these devices eliminate the big spiked pulses that the "rattlesnake" PWM frequency of 33.3 hz, which the majority of inexpensive mods use. It is the higher frequency of PWM that shows up as a flat line on an oscelloscope and results in the so-called "smoother vape".

It might be the heads they're using too...

I have an itaste VTR, 2x itaste MVP2, and the VV VV3 right now with a 134 on the way, and they vape differently from a Provari using a Vivi Nova glass w/ BDC head (most noticeable), Aspire Davide, and any RBA. There is less of a difference using cartos and Protank2 (but I don't notice much taste with Protank2 on anything). I have NO idea why, but you can taste a density difference in juices.

I personally went with the Mini just so i could have a small one and make it bigger if and when i wanted to. I have 3 batteries in rotation and that keeps me going all day long. I have not extended it yet, but plan to next year. Just have to get through christmas then i can go spend happy on myself yet again. If i could afford it I would get a bigger one just to have it. Who knows that might happen next year as well.

If you don't like changing batteries very often, go standard.
18650 batteries are pretty cheap for what they offer, and capacity in the future will only increase.
With the mini you are stuck with Chinese made low capacity batteries.
If you really like mini, then don't forget that 18650 extension cap you will need it :) :2c:

I've thought about that, but the passthrough is pretty pricey and while it appears that I am acting paranoid, my question is do any of these batteries have any possibility of being discontinued or are they industry standard.

Does anyone know what other "industrial" uses these batteries have? Are they a common standard that will continue to be used indefinitely (like AA, D etc...) or are they really specialized power packs that the "e-cig" market is keeping "alive" because the industry has moved to another form factor?

In addition to the aforementioned flashlights, these batteries are also used in Airsoft and in laptop computers. Break open the black shrink wrap or case, and you will see these familiar batteries.

Vapers adapted to existing battery designs, not the other way around.

SuperStacked. LOL.
They use Panasonic's.
panasonic-lithium-ion-battery-module.jpg

Bundled up together in big packs. Notice this block doesn't say Mah, just AH. As in 1000x Mah.

And if you run the thing all the way down - like in a mod, if you totally drained the battery?
It's wrecked - and a new entire battery pack? $40,000. No warranty or insurance will cover you for total battery drain either.

Stacked?? .
