After spending almost a grand on Chantix that didn't work for us, my husband and I started on NPROs today with regular 18mg cartridges. Charged them for 4 hours before use. (BTW, lights turned green in less than 10 minutes. Thanks for all your advice about ignoring that)

I like it, he's still undecided. But I'm hoping someone can answer my questions.

1. It leaks from the inhaling hole (drops of liquid attached to the end) - should this stuff be getting on our lips and in our mouths?

2. The liquid tastes very sweet - why is that?

3. We use kleenex's to wipe the liquid on the end and on our lips. And we have a yorkie that loves to tear up kleenex and napkins! We have always let her because it's fun to watch her have so much fun. Will it hurt her if she accidently gets one of these tissues?

4. My husband had a heart attack (our reason for quitting cigs) - do you know of any reason he shouldn't be using e-cigs?

I think I've read a million messages on here in the last couple of weeks, but it gets mind-boggling. And I'm sure I'll be asking a lot questions going forward!

Thank you!

Nicotine can kill and it wouldn't take much to make a pet very ill.

Nicotine also raises blood pressure among other things so your husband should be very careful about his dose. I suggest starting low and only going higher if that doesn't satisfy and the alternative is smoking.

The leaking can be caused by overfull cartridges or batteries that aren't fully charged I think (not sure, I don't usually have this problem).

The eliquid is based on propylene glycol or glycerine, both taste sweet and are harmless to ingest. Applying nicotine directly to skin is something to avoid, wash it off when it happens.

Yes, sorry I phrased my last post badly.

If you get eliquid on you wipe it off. The higher the nicotine content the more careful you need to be. Some people wash skin after being exposed to eliquid but I don't know how necessary that is.

I should also have said that your husband might be best to get professional medical advice about his dose. Nobody here is qualified to give you reliable guidance.

I had that same problem. I started with npro's before getting real tired of the carts leaking. I found out that if the battery gets low they will do it also,I found that i had some bad carts that let the juice in behind the inner cart(where the filter is).I got to the point where I would draw lighter puffs. and I would use a tooth pick and push inner cart down a little to seat it back into place

Excellent advice. It should be noted too that there really is a learning curve between smoking analogs to vape mastery, and a bit of the leaky cartridge problem might be due to "improper" vaping technique. I insisted on trying to use my e-cig like an analog until I tired of wiping excess juice from the mouth piece and having my lips "burned".

Slowing down, taking 3 or 4 short primer puffs followed by a slow steady drag allows the juice to be properly heated to get the desired "hit" and vapor. I knew I had finally mastered the technique yesterday when I tasted one of the flavors I purchased for the first time. Up til then, the only thing I "knew" about flavors was what I read about in forums.

I think most reviews I've watched always talk about a primer puff to get the atomizer preheated before the actual inhalation. This definitely helps when the batteries get low, but eventually liquid comes up if the battery doesn't keep the atomizer hot enough or on for the full length of the drag.

Thankfully I haven't had any problems with leakage through my first cart pack.

As far as animals go, we store all our carts in the cabinet. Small plastic things that smell interesting are prime targets for the cats. I'm very careful to wipe up any liquid that may come off the cart when opening and dispose of in a sealed container that the cats can't get into.

I'll keep you informed if I have any leaky cart issues. Nice tip regarding the toothpick!

I've just come across this post about someone getting nicotine liquid in their eye - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...1ml-36mg-your-skin-kill-you-3.html#post146909

I actually accidentally flicked a small amount into my eye a couple weeks ago when making up a mix... it burned, but I've been wearing hard contacts for MANY years and have pretty tough eyes I think. Splashed some water in my eye and all better.

I'll admit, I fall towards the less cautious side with this stuff... if I get it on my hands it doesn't freak me out, but I will wash it off. Since it sometimes unavoidable gets in my mouth, I think of my skin as less problematic, I think you just don't want to expose yourself to it too often. Need to keep it well away from my parakeet too!
