I used to know someone who was paranoid of the government tracking his spending with credit cards/debit cards, so he got rid of them and paid everything with cash and checks. That only lasted a few months...

And checks dont get tracked.......rrrright...:p

$15.00 does not protect me nor any one else from anything.
the criminal element will just find another way to launder their money.
that just leaves law abiding citizens left to track every penny they spend
with these cards.
regards
mike

Dude, unless your job pays you cash under the table and you only pay with cash for everything, and never paid income taxes,.... then you already being tracked.

Lets use the foil for cooking the x-mas turkey.

Happy Holidays!

I am leaving for Prague on Friday. If a government were interested in my activities, they would know my flights, where I am staying, what reservations I have for dinners, the ballet, New Year's Eve, who I will be with via. e-mail and FB Messenger, which taxis and limos I am using and have me on camera at the various airports and pretty much the entire time I will be in Prague and Plzen, as the cities I am visiting have nearly 100% camera surveillance, with the exception of restrooms and my hotel room. Even the hotel spa and pool have surveillance. If THEY want to record what I do in my hotel room with my girlfriends, I am sure THEY can arrange for that as well. Am I worried; do I care? Not a bit. I live in society, not off the grid in a cabin in the woods...

This is what US Bank says about buying their prepaid credit cards

Successful identity verification required. To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: when you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.

I live in Ohio. I've always had to show ID when I go to vote. I'm surprised there are states that don't require it. Couldn't someone else go vote in your place then?

Yes and multiple times... it is a bit shocking one would not need a state issued Id to vote, but how else would illegals, felons and dead people vote?

Who doesn't have a state issued identification card, other than illegals and criminals?

Disabled people
Elderly people
Poor people

And don't start the "you have to have one for everything" shtick. My husband got along fine for over ten years after he became unable to drive, using an expired out of state drivers license and proof of residence (utility and tax statements) with no problems. Then the legislature went with their solution to a non-existent problem, and we had to take a day to drive 60 miles to the nearest DMV office, sit around half the day, and drive back. The ID didn't cost anything but the driving sure did, to get something he has no other use for than to fill in the blank on the ballot.

How does one live without an identification card? No banking? No check cashing? You should see what people in other parts of the world have gone through to vote...

I am certain that for elections an ID would unfairly discriminate against the poor but for pre-paid cards, not so much. There otta be a law or a law suit.

How do the poor collect their welfare checks? They don't need an ID to get my tax money?
Ok, sue them. What harm have they caused you and what are your damages? They denied you your right to get a pre paid credit card? If you don't like their terms and conditions, don't use their product...

In Minnesota if you buy a prepaid Visa or Matercard-Debit card[non reloadable] in a Grocery store or say at Target I am not sure you have to show ID,although I am 60 so being a minor would not be an issue. These are not reloadable and the Max amount you can put on any that I have seen are $700. I still think they have to type in a name, address and phone number at the register. The fee is about $6 whether you but $50 or $700 on the card.

For a long time the poor used check cashing services that took a considerable chunk to cash the check. Many states now issue Visa check cards. Even with ID it is very difficult to get a checking account if you are poor. (No permanent address or more frequent changes in address, no available funds for the minimum deposit, uneducated in the process)

But, I do agree it is within the companies' rights to ask for ID. The state demanding it is another story.

Check cashing services don't ask for ID? One doesn't need an ID to get welfare? What if they sign up 10 times, do they get 10 pre paid welfare cards?

It isn't the state which demands identity verification, it is the federal government, at least in the cases I have found...
