I vape everywhere. If someone asks me to stop I will, but no-one has as yet. The only people I cannot abide are the hardcore smokers who completely dismiss the idea of vaping being better than smoking. Most people are interested and ask questions but there is the occasional one who sticks their nose in the air and refuses to acknowledge the facts.
I do occasionally stealth vape, which I can still do openly without people really noticing.
To do so, I vape as normal but on the exhale I reinhale to the limits of my lung capacity as the vapour starts to leave my mouth. On the second exhale there is little to no vapour at all, which is much more stealthy than a large white cloud....

Two points to consider: Perception is reality. If you ACT like you are doing something wrong, then you will be percevied as doing something wrong and vaping will and should be banned. And if you are not willing to take the time and effort to respectfully educate the uninformed about vaping, then you are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

That being said, if the owner of an establishment, after a respectful explanation would rather you not vape in his/her establishment, then don't make a fuss, but respect their wishes and thank them for taking the time to listen to your points. And then change your spending habits towards more enlightened establishments.

I agree ... best to follow the rules and avoid the attention.

I have a theory that anti-smoking fanaticism has gotten to the point where certain people just want to PUNISH others, and are bummed that "smokers" might "get away with it," through vaping.

Exactly!! I've been thinking that for awhile now. In my opinion, people who concern themselves so much with what other people do (especially things that have no impact whatsoever on others--vaping, for example) are busybody stick-in-the-muds who won't allow themselves to actually enjoy anything that may or may not be hazardous to their health, so they don't want you to enjoy yourself, either.

Health nazis HATE the fact that other people don't spend every waking moment trying to decipher whether something is good for them or not, since this is what their miserable existence consists of. They also spend the majority of their free-time exercising (which they claim to love, but in reality, they're only doing it so they look better to their fellow health nazis). They spend the rest of their time talking about how much they exercise, and the rest of the time telling those around them how unhealthy their habits are.

Personally, I find the busybody characteristic to be the most annoying of human personality traits. My credo: You do your thing, I'll do mine. So long as we aren't harming each other, let's agree to live and let live.

Ben Harper said it best:

My choice is what i chose to do;
and if I'm causin no harm,
it shouldn't bother you.
Your choice is who you chose to be;
and if your causin to harm, then your alright with me.

I believe we should vape in public whenever it's not obnoxious to do so. And yes, it is our job to educate, not placate.

I don't really have a problem with being stealthy or anything, I usually hang out in the mall and they don't have a problem at all with me using my ecig, heck Hot Topic even encouraged me to use it in their store and I gave away a couple cards for the website I get all my supplies from. No one usually bothers me with it, but I'm very courteous about whether it would make people uncomfortable. I've gone to stores and asked the manager if it was ok if I used it in their store, most of them say yes after I explain it, but a few say no and I respect that and won't vape there. My manager at work gave me the ok to use it in the break room. I dunno, I don't vape as much as some people, so I don't have as much of a problem, I can put it away for quite a while then pull it out and put it together as I'm leaving out the door.

I vape in the bathroom at work. We are only allowed to smoke at our lunch breaks (off the clock) we can't even go outside for a smoke during our breaks. I can sneak in the bathroom have a quick vape and no one is the wiser.
I also am aware that I can take a vape anywhere if nobody is watching me; the convenience being that there is no flame, nothing to light and as Stress Free pointed out even the vapor can be re-inhaled. Its just so quick and easy. :D

I've adopted the vape anywhere attitude lately. At first I would try to hide it, partially embarassed by the look of my PV, and partially out of being scared that people would look at me as if I was still smoking. But then I said the heck with it and started vaping anywhere I felt the need. But I always ask permission before doing so in any business I plan on spending any length of time in. Bars and restaurants are about the only places I spend more than an hour in, so I always ask a manager or waitstaff first. I've yet to be turned down. Plenty of questions for sure, but never turned down. I've even had bar managers ask me about disposables for their business and where they could get some. Keep in mind many of these establishments have lost 30% or more of their business due to smoking restrictions. For most of them, to get that business back and still be smokefree would be a huge bonus. I told my boss that I was going to quit smoking and start using a PV. He had a ton of questions and even bought in my fellow cubicle rats to explain to them. They all agreed 100% to let me vape at my desk whenever I felt like it. They were just happy about my healthy change and the fact that I wouldn't be coming in smelling like burnt tobacco, stinking up the place.

Educate the ignorant is my motto. Talk to the naysayers, explain the benefits, show the hardware and how it works, show them the odorless vapor, and let them decide. It's all you can do besides getting behind the fight to keep this alternative legal in all states. If the FDA gets total control over this, our vaping world will suffer.

So, far I've stealth vaped in WalMart and Home Depot. I also stealth vape in my cubicle at work.
I'm careful about taking shorter hits so I can hold it in and there is no visible vapor.

At work there are 7 or eight of us using the e cigs and we agreed to be discrete for now even though there is no documentation about vaping where we work.

I too generally vape anywhere. The bars that I am a regular at know me and have heard the explaination enough not to bother with me. I do alot of explaining to those who want to know what I am doing.

Just lately I have noticed more issues with people being militant even after hearing that it is not smoke. I was in a bar last week when a patron several stools away said very loudly "Take that outside, I'm eating!" when I calmly gave the usual explaination he repeated "take it outside!" I replied as I leaned close to him "Do you smell anything?' to which he huffed "It's not TOO bad." I did go outside after that not to raise a fuss.

I have also had a bar server tell me that she knew all about it, but was not willing to tell all the other smokers in the place that it was not smoke. She was very nice and it was not problem to go outside after that. If they are nice then I am as well.

More smokers are complaining since they have to go outside, and I had one security guard go right to "This is private property and you can just leave" even though it was outside and no one complained. I go there no more with that attitude. I will spend my hard earned $ elsewhere.

Good idea, lest the smoke nazis come after you

I vape openly in most places now. We went to the cinema at the weekend an I open vaped whilst watcing the film but we were in the back row for no other reason than i didn't want the cloud of vape blocking the screen for someone. After the film I openly vaped in the bar without even a sideways look from the staff. The only place I have stelth vape is at a school I work at but then I go to the hall where there are no kids.

Even thought it's not smoking I don't want the kids to see it as they could think smoking is a good thing. To be honest I only have to do this very rarely as I can usually go 4 hours without a vape, and as I'm normally there for an hour or so it's not an issue.

There's already quite a few threads on this topic here.

I was in the office a few days last week and had ample opportunities to vape at my desk in semi-privacy. It was an open floor but very little foot traffic or line of sight from neighbors. At the hotel it was great to vape my head off in my room without having to hike outside or risk a cleaning surcharge or complaints from my neighbors. It's definitely a nice change to have a new habit that doesn't leave the smelly and unhealthy footprint that cigarette smoking does.

I do agree with the thought that if you act like you're doing something that is unacceptable that it will be perceived that way. On the other hand, I have enough drama in my life that I don't care to add being an e-cig evangelist to that list. If people ask, I'll educate. However, I'm not going out of my way to initiate. Fact is I'm not proud of my nicotine addiction whether I'm feeding it with analogs or a PV, and not going to flaunt it in either case. But that's just me. I'm not here to rationalize how right or wrong vaping away out in public places is for others - it just ain't for me.

I stealth vaped in the airport, on the plane, and in the planes bathroom. In general dont do things that will set off people who are touchy. That being said most places its fine. I actually talked to the flight crew before hand and they said they see them all the time now and indeed most of the smokers there have picked it up to get around having to go to the lounge.

From my perspective, I drink coffee because I enjoy the benefits of caffeine. I vape because I enjoy the benefits of nicotine. I have quit both by choice as well and can do so at any time. God put various herbs on earth to help man and vaping is just an excellent improvement on the tobacco pipe for obtaining nicotine. I don't have any qualms about "drinking" my daily nicotine. ;)
