Stepping Up from EVOD

Hey everyone,

I've been vaping for almost three years now and the whole time I've been using a simple EVOD tank and battery. I've been rebuilding coils and all that for two years. I've grown tired of dealing with limited vapor, leaking onto the battery, and all the other pains that come with such a simple setup, so I'm ready to step up to something better.

Can any of you recommend a full setup for me that will cost around $100 that includes tank and battery? The ability to build my own coils rather easily would also be a bonus. vaping has become crazy complicated the last couple years and I'm pretty much lost at this point. I'm not interested in mechanical mods or anything like that due to the complexity/danger. I'm just looking for a battery I can screw a tank onto and get great, thick vapor. Size is also a consideration as I don't want some monstrosity in my pocket.

My daughter called me a couple of days ago and asked me what reasonably affordable e-cig she should buy. She's been using my Mini Provari with an Aspire Mini Nautilus tank for about the last year.

About a month ago I might have said an iStick from Eleaf. However, my sister recently purchased her first e-cig, which was an iStick 30 watt. After only a week of use, the circuit board malfunctioned and wouldn't turn on. She bought it at a vape shop 3 hours round trip, so would have to return it whenever her busy schedule would allow. She bought another one online, and promptly dropped that one a couple days later, so now she has two non-working iSticks. A testament to their reliability and durabiltiy?

Anyway, I told my daughter that I have been impressed with the reviews of the eVic VTC Mini and recommended that she research more into that.

I was going to recommend an istick30. Hubby has 2 and I have one and so far all 3 are working very very well. He has dropped his several times and so far no problem. I bought silicon covers for them and now they stay in his pocket instead of falling out when he bends over I wouldn't recommend the istick20's though. They don't regulate the power very well but fortunately eleaf seems to have fixed the problem with the 30.

I like the mini trophys, davide's, smoktech Aro2 and evod glass for my toppers. I like the fact that I can use the same coil for all of them. Lots of folks swear by the Nautilus or Nautilus Mini but I've not tried them.

My upgrade from EVOD tanks (aside from the Protank line) is the Buddha mini from EHPro, a small (18mm) tank that fits nicely in eGo-style batteries (with a vanity ring). Single coil deck, I've built on it down to .3 Ohms but usually keep it closer to 1.0. Works great on any mod, like the iSticks, but with a proper build it works fine on standard fixed-voltage egos.

Here lately you have been able to get Provari's cheap on the classies...picked up another couple myself!...and since you know how to rebuild try a Kayfun Lite Plus by Ehpro...super easy and thats all I use.

If you have been rebuilding evod coils for 2 years, its time to get a subtank kit; maybe a subox kit, or get the subtank mini with some other decent mod.

You can get RBA heads for it, and do just like with your evod, except the rba head has screw posts you can screw your coil down, and no tiny grommet to deal with.

The goliath is another one that you can get a few rba heads to work with; and there should be a couple others.

I personally am loving the coolfire iv with the subtank mini. The coolfire met a stone patio from 4ft high and is still ticking so durable it is. No leaking on my subtank...except the first time I used the rba deck and didn't screw it down all the way. User error [emoji20]

I think tank choices depend on your vaping habits. A goblin mini on a coolfire or istick or smok xpro or ipv2 mini is very small but doesn't hold a lot of juice.

A Lemo 2 with its single coil is simple to build and the top fill is nice. I really like my Goliath v2, and both of these tanks hold a decent amount of liquid.

All of these will come in well under $100.

I'm not sure what to recommend for the actual box since I end up getting 150w+ capable boxes (I love to extreme sub ohm) and those get kind of pricey. However, as far as tanks go, I've been using a subtank (the big one but the minis are just as good in my experience) as my goto tank and with the RBA deck it vapes like a champ and hasn't leaked once since I quit using the prebuilt coils.

Also, I stepped up from ego and evod style vaping and have been beyond satisfied with the whole experience, it's definitely an upgrade and building coils is so much easier on a deck than in one of those awful coil heads so if you have been rebuilding evod coils for 2 years you are going to have no problem jumping right into making your own coils on an RBA

I would sudjest the new "egrip oled CL version".

All in one design with the tank and battery. The tank holds 3.6mls. They use "ego one" coils so you can buy new disposables or use the CLR coils that are rebuildable. Also, they make a rebuildable base for it that you can buy seperate for around 8$.

Stock airflow is 2mm, but with the rebuildable base (it has its own airflow) the airflow is increased to 2.3mm (technically 2.5 BUT the egrip chimney is only 2.3, so it's the choke point)



If that does not fancy your tastes, I'd sudjest an eGo one. (Do not get the "mega" version, as the tank has serious flaws and may cause you to throw it out a window in anger)

The VTC Mini is a better mod than the Kbox Mini due to its spring-loaded 510 and superior functionality, while the Subtank Mini is a better tank than the eGo ONE Mega (for almost every reason I can think of).

The subtank mini is a winner for rebuilding if you like the direct lung hit experience. If you're still into mouth-to-lung, I would suggest a Kayfun v4. I used to think the Kayfun Lite was going to be my be-all, end-all tank until I picked up the v4. It's so easy to get to the coil to re-wick it, only takes a few minutes to change it out. I caught a bunch on clearance at local shops and got about 10 for $100.

Thanks for everyone's recommendations in this thread. I ended up buying the eVic VTC Mini. When I first got it I LOVED it. Using the temperature control heads it comes with was an amazing experience. The first time I hit it I literally gagged on all the vapor. The problem is that those heads only lasted a couple days apiece, so I bought 10 CLRs for rebuilding.

The CLR heads don't work anywhere near as well. The vapor production is probably half of what I got from the temperature control heads, there are now leaks that leak down into the bottom of the eGo One Mega and onto the top part of the mod. I also get tons of dry hits and have to turn it down to 17.5 watts to keep them from happening so often. The screw-on caps on the CLR heads also get stuck inside the eGO One Mega when you unscrew it to refill the tank.

Am I doing something wrong here?

I bought 28 gauge nickel wire for rebuilds. Now many wraps around a 2.4mm screwdriver? I haven't gone through all 10 heads yet so I haven't had to rebuild just yet.

I thought tempreture control made it so you can't get dry hits . overheating nickel wire is supposed to be dangerous according to some people on you tube .

Yeah, I said that I was getting dry hits with the CLR heads, and not the temperature control heads. JoyeTech's official heads use Nickel so I doubt it's much of a danger.

LOL, my transition from the Aspire ET-S, was the Lemo (V1). It was the impetus me starting a thread for the first time -- "tootle puffer with RTA, coughing." I didn't think I'd ever adjust to it, but folks here helped me tune it down a bit, and I now love it so much I got a second one.

I hope you are able to figure out the other issues you're having with your new gear.

For rebuidling, If you haven't tried it already, check out Steam Engine for guidance on # wraps for the your desired resistance.

That calculator is telling me I need like 44 wraps!
