Stiff draw, burnt taste

I've had my ego-t for about a week now, and I've got to say it's leaps and bounds above the mini e-cig I had 3 years ago... don't even want analogs anymore...

But I'm running into a problem with one of my atomizers.... after about a week of use on the first one, I notice the flavors are duller, so I switched to the other atomizer it came with... it's got a horrible burnt flavor that I can't seem to get rid of no matter how much priming I do or fiddling with it... the draw is really tight on that one, from what I've seen on some posts that may be related?

I tried popping the end off the tank as one poster suggested, but no luck... still getting a lot of dry hits. This atomizer seems to leak worse too, which seems counter-intuitive... if a lot of fluid is going in there, shouldn't it be wicking nicely?

At a glance, the wicks appear to be the same in both atty's.... but when I switch back and forth, the burnt taste or lack thereof is obvious.

I'm loathe to start pulling these things apart unless I have to.... some posts I've seen suggest that cleaning actually reduces the life of an atomizer, particularly dry burns. Also, can I dry burn with the wick in, or do I need to remove it first?

For now I'm sticking with the good atty, despite a muted flavor... better than burnt!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ironically, after several more days of messing with this, I'm convinced it's more of an issue of my tastebuds getting destroyed on the 26mg tobacco-flavored juices... when I filled a cart with apple, and switched between the two atty's, the "burnt" flavor wasn't noticeable at all... and I noticed my "bad" "burnt" atty actually had much better vapor production and TH... switching back to some RY4, I notice again what I thought were "burnt" tastes but I think it's just the high nicotine content and greater vapor production with the tobacco flavors. I'm actually favoring the "bad" atty at this point, as the "good" one feels like sucking air through a garden hose by comparison, with little tiny wisps of vapor. I think the "good" atomizer was just producing so little flavor that I didn't notice the harsher tones of the tobacco flavors...

Going to order some nice sweet and fruity juices in varying nic strengths from GotVapes (local to me) and try out their Fluxomizers. I wanted to try the new BUD Sapphire cartomizers as well, the video he made looks dope, but they are out of stock. After reading a few reviews on here, I may hold out and see if future iterations fix some of the problems folks have run into with the Sapphires.

Meanwhile, no matter how much frustration I run into with information overload or the desire to drop $1000 on equipment or hours of scouring websites for the best prices on e-liquid, cross-referencing to the reviews on ECF, and occasionally over-vaping myself into insomnia and headaches, every time I step outside to let the dog do his business and I see my beautiful crystal ashtray overflowing with ash and butts, I thank the gods for the man who invented vaping, and of course all you good people on ECF.

Vape on! :vapor:

The wick placement on the ego-Ts are pretty important. If they're too far up or down they'll either not wick well or just leak. It sounds like your second atomiser could have its wick a little too far up or down, but as long as you don't use really thick liquids it sounds like you wont really have a problem. They're a real pain to take apart and put back together so if you don't have to, I'd be hesitant to.

I wouldn't be too scared to dry burn an ego-T atomiser. I've got one original ego-T atomiser from my first ego-T kit from march of this year and it still works. I used to use it more regularly than I do now however so that is a factor. I used to perform a dry burn on mine once a week and I didn't notice much of a nagative effect.

What I did was to make sure they were as dry as they could be (blowing them out is a real pain sometimes) then I'd keep holding the button down on them for about 30 seconds while gently blowing into the atomiser. I'd give it a minute or two to cool down a bit then repeat, until the wick part itself visibly glows red. Until that point, the atomiser will be constantly vapourising all the residue, and once it's red it stops pretty quickly. I consider that a successful dry burn. If you kept holding the button down to the point where the coil goes "white hot", then you're likely in danger of causing it damage.

My partner's ego-T which they hadn't cleaned in months of regular use... it was leaking badly, tasted awful and had a seriously hard draw on it. After I dry burned it it was almost as good as new. Dry burning wont solve every ego-T problem but it should free the wick of residue and return some of its function because of that.

I was having trouble the other day after I refilled a tank and put it back on the cone. Not much vapor and a bit of a nasty taste. Checked the atomizer and thought it might need a good cleaning, the wick seemed to be positioned OK. I stuck the tank back on there just for a test and it worked just fine. Finally figured out that sometimes you have to give the tank a slight twist, like turning it 5 degrees, and it can make a big difference. Saved me from having to monkey with the atty.

I have since pulled apart, dry-burned, and rebuilt my "weak" atomizer a couple of times, and it's become my #1 go-to with awesome vapor production and flavor for about a week after the process.

The other one, that originally had the "burnt" taste, I dropped on the kitchen tile while cleaning, and now it's leaking badly. When I stop being lazy I will put it through the dry-burn, clean, and rebuild process I've been using on the #1 atty... hopefully it's only leaking as a result of wick placement, not something more serious being damaged as a result of the fall... I think maybe I dented/bent the cone and now the tank isn't fitting flush... might just need to toss that one and shell out another $15 for a new atomizer next time I place a liquid order....

LOVE THIS FORUM!!!! :vapor:

Hondo, just noticed after I read your reply that you are a registered supplier, and here in TX no less... do you ship out of Austin? Looks like you've got decent prices on the eGo-T accessories, and I need a good local supplier... last order I placed from a "local" Houston company shipped from NY, and took over a week to get here :(
