I just started vaping a few weeks ago, with most of the usual issues of bad equipment and prefilled carts that did not taste very good ( at least this seems to be common according to much of my read here) and I am still smoking some. Mornings are my weekness and am now using a higher mg cart for my first vape of the day to try and cut out the analogs completely. The first morning I just HAD to stop and buy a pack I felt horrible, but then I started counting how many less I was smoking, and not how many I did. I know it is just a little fancy mental footwork, but I cannot let myself start to get discouraged or I will just give up... I figure that once I find my grove, it will take care of itself.

I still smoke "occasionally," but it sounds like I do it more often than you, OP. I've been mostly a social smoker too. The worst I ever did was 2 packs in one day. I was driving home from Oklahoma. I was there for a few weeks and couldn't have a cigarette the entire time, so as soon as I left, I went to wal mart to get some food and water for the road, and I had to pick up a pack of cigarettes. It was a 26 hour drive. Smoking gave me something to do in the car, as I did it in one straight shot for the most part. I TRIED to stop and sleep at a rest stop, but it was way too hot and humid to be comfortable enough to sleep for very long. By the end of the trip, I'd gone thru two full packs, and I was tired as hell.

Other than that episode, a pack could last me anywhere from one day to one week. I've been vaping for about 3 months, and in that time I bought maybe 4 or 5 packs, which is a LOT better. I still bum smokes from friends every now and then, but not nearly as much as I did before I started buying my own, or even when I was buying my own but ran out. I still enjoy a cigarette sometimes, especially if I'm drinking. But most of the time, I vape. I love the flavors, and I love how I can get ginseng in my juice. I use that in the morning or when I'm starting to feel drained throughout the day. It's not like an energy drink or a cup of coffee, but it does help keep me going.

My girlfriend tried blu, and she liked it at first, but she finds that e-cigs make her cough more than regular cigarettes. I think she just needs to learn how to drag on it correctly and find her comfort zone or whatever, but she's given up on them. However, she has cut back her smoking quite a bit. She used to go thru 2 packs a day, now she's down to about one. E-cigs sort of helped in that, but as far as I know she's still at that same level of smoking without the help of e-cigs. I now have a joye 510, and I let her try it too, but she doesn't like it any better than the blu. She didn't like the short battery life or the cart size of the blu anymore than anyone else, but her main complaint was that it makes her cough. That, and I guess she can't go without the extra crap that's in cigarettes.

For myself, I've noticed that the more I'm around people with cigarettes, the more likely I am to want one. If nobody has them, then I still get slight cravings, but I usually just shrug them off and puff on my 510. One of the main reasons for me switching to e-cigs was the cost of real cigarettes. They're just too expensive for me to keep buying them. I've probably spent just as much on e-cigs in the last 3 months as I would have on real ones, if not even more, but now I don't need any equipment or juice for a while. I'm still eager to try out some new flavors, though. I know that in the long run, this is better for my health and my wallet as long as I don't go nuts buying stuff. And I see no reason to for a while, other than juice, but I really don't even need more of that either.

When I first started vaping with GreenSmoke I was still smoking about half a pack per day. That was a significant decrease for me from a PAD to a pack and a half. I wasn't completely happy with GS and decided to go right to a Riva (which I've been incorrectly calling an eGo because that's how it was labelled on the MadVapes site...lol.) As soon as I started vaping with the Riva, analogs went bye-bye. I didn't expect that, but I'm glad that it happened that way.

I am still weak first thing when I wake up, also if I am real busy with work, and driving in the car. But I figure if I am smoking 5-8 sticks a day, then its better than the 1-1.5 packs I was doing. When I first got the starter kit I thought I would quit right away. Think for myself it will take some time. I am OK with that. If I can cut the 5-8 to 3-5 then sweet. I am weak. Still like them at times. Count the ones you do not smoke. No sense in beating yourself up over it. I figure it will happen over time.

Pez: It's not weakness, it's just our addictive/habitual nature coming out. That's why some have to take it slower than others. The easiest cigs for me to give up were the ones I couldn't account for smoking. It was the 3 cigs while drinking my coffee, 1 after the shower, 1 on the way to work, breaks at work, etc...Those were the routine oriented ones that were the toughest to change.

I just took one at a time and tested it by replacing it with vaping. If it was too uncomfortable, I tried replacing a different one. Of course, everyone has their own way of quitting, but that method has worked for me so far. I hope you find what works the best for you. It sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on it already--Good Luck!

I still choose to smoke an analog on the way to the studio. It doesn't feel "wrong". It has actually turned into 1/2 of one. I look at how many analogs I have passed up and it adds up to over 37 cartons. Hurray!
I used to "smoke one" on the way home from the studio and that gone by the wayside as it became really icky after vaping all day.
Everyone has their own reasons for "smoking" to start with and keeping up with it even thru sickness, money worries, family challenges, and relationship issues. I find that these are no longer triggers for me and I love vaping. I know I will never choose to go back to "smoking" all the time.
Thanks for this thread. It is wonderful to "hear" the journeys and share mine. Good luck on yours!

Morning cig is hard to pass up, but I'm glad so far I've been able to stay away from it 98% of the time despite how dry my throat feels in the morning. Been trying to drink more liquid but still not enough i suppose. The toughest routine to change for me is after lunch or dinner.

I had to make myself vape first and then re-evaluate my NEED for the "stinkie".

No, I am a new vaper and I am not going to smoke. I have been vaping FSUSA juices and they taste so much better than analogs, the analogs taste like crap.

Besides my sense of smell is starting to return. I have noticed my apartment smells like old cigarettes (have to rent a carpet shampooer and do some heavy cleaning). I took a shirt out of the hamper that I wore when I smoked and could smell the stink. I'm not going back to that.
