Generally I keep my mechs maintenance free, most of my collection is stainless steel so I just go over the threads weekly with rubbing alcohol and wipe the contacts. The stingray x however is looking a bit grimey, the threads and the inner tube are mucked up and I'm beginning to think this is why it's not hitting as well. I do not have anything other than rubbing alcohol, and some vodka.. Though it isn't grain, just regular drinking vodka. What should I do, I was thinking about soaking it in some warm water and soap, but I'm not sure if that will bring back some life.

IF you want to clean out the threads, use a toothbrush and brush with the threads. soap and water is fine here.

and yes, gunked threads will affect how the mod hits.

As for copper, there is plenty of things to use. I can vouch for cape cod cloths, I bought the can for 12 bucks, its great. they are impregnated polishing clothes, all you do is wipe the mod down with cloth 1, and buff it with cloth 2. Its polishing for dummies, couldnt be easier.

For copper and brass, I also like citric acid. For pure copper stuff, a quick soak in a citric acid solution, and you'll have that sexy, matte, salmon pink copper that mod sellers dream of. If you happen to be one of those people who dont like their copper matte pink, dont worry, touch the mod for five minutes and it'll look like a penny in no time.
