Hi All,

I'm a Nautilus user, and I have already stocked a number of factory coils. But because I run so many tanks with different flavors at the same time, it's cost prohibitive to stock the number of factory coils needed for me to be "comfortable" in the long run.

Therefore, I've purchased a handful of Kayfun Mini V3 clones to store for if and when I will need to learn to build coils myself. I've watched some "how to" videos, and I'm relieved that it doesn't appear to be as difficult as I had imagined.

Still, I need a generous forum member to create a list of exactly what supplies I will need. Again, I'm a current Nautilus user with a 1.8 coil and would like to replicate that as closely as possible. I know I'll need wire, cotton, some type of plier, ohm reader?, coil tool, etc but the options are overwhelming. Please be specific about wire gauges and whatnot - links are incredibly helpful - and cost for these types of items is not an issue.

I'd like the peace of mind to know that when I do sit down to learn this new skill, I will already have everything I need.

Thank you!

Below is everything I keep handy to rebuild. I'm away from home so this is everything. To keep things simple I use only 28 guage 316 stainless. I'm usually going for 1.2-1.4 ohm single coil builds which I run at 30 max watts and 400 degrees. I use only one atomizer, the SV rda clone from FT. I have several. I vape to live, not live to vape. I've got a quality vape that's easy to maintain. About $20 worth of wire will probably last me 10 years.

There is some aluminum welding rod in the photo that's 3mm in dia. Everything else came from fasttech except for the organic cotton. Oops, may be the pliers came from Lowes or Home Depot.

At the bare minimum? Other than wire and cotton (or rayon, some swear by it), something to coil on like a ~2 or 2.5 mm drill bit, nail clippers to cut the wire, some tweezers come in handy, and a good pair of scissors to cut your cotton.

Everything else is really just to make your life easier. If you have a regulated mod that will display resistance, there's your ohm meter. You can also use it to dry burn the coil. Ceramic tipped tweezers if you want to shape the coil while burning it in. Oh, whatever you need to tighten the screws/grub screws on your deck, which they usually throw in with your tank goody bag (sometimes, otherwise a small phillips head screwdriver like for glasses, they always give you an Allen wrench of they use hex grub screws). Not a lot of stuff.

Since you want to replucate the 1.8 ohm resistance.

You want 28 gauge wire.
ohm meter
Ceramic tweezers
Fingernail clippers. Good as anything to cut wire
Set of screwdrivers
Spare screws and O rings for the Atty.
You could use a coil jig or drill bits to wrap the coils on

There are videos on YouTube that shows how to rebuild the coil heads of the Nautilus.

On an Atty like Kayfun lite or Kayfun Mini ceramic tweezers REALLY helps. Fire the coil and push the wraps together to get the coil to fire correctly don't do that with needle nose pliers or you will get a NASTY shock.

I dont even bother with tweezers any more.
Cotton
Scissors
Wire cutters
2 little blue screwdrivers (one for screws, the other for wrapping wire)
28 gauge wire

If I wrap the wire 8 x round the LBS (little blue screwdriver)
There's 1.2. It goes in the kayfun. (Easy as it looks on YouTube, easier than I could describe).
Juice up the kfun.
Put it on top of the mod.

When I say easy. I mean ridiculously easy. Good luck :)

I started wrapping coils in LBS too.

At bare minimum you can use a nail with the right diameter as a coil form. You need wire cutters to clip the wire. It's also necessary to have something to mount the coil deck on give you two free hands to mount the coil. One of those little square box 510 ohmmeters is good for that. Keep the coil on the nail or coil mandrel as you mount it to the deck. That keeps the coils aligned and makes it easier to mount on the screws.

In place of the nail, I use a wire coil winding mandrel. It's a small tool that has steps machined into it for graduated coil sizes. I have one that is graduated in half mm steps and one that's whole mm steps. One goes 1,2,3,4,5 mm and the other is .5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 mm. It depends on the size you like your coil to be. You can get that from Amazon or a vendor like www.KidneyPuncher.com

Steam engine will make your life easier. You just pick the wire size, coil diameter, and the resistance you want and it tells you how many turns to make for the result.

After that, it's all a matter of practicing to get good at creating coils. That happens pretty quickly. For TC mods you need spaced coils. For VW use we usually make tight coils, install it, and use tweezers after the first dry burn to compress them. Ceramic Tweezers are available from most vendors.

Once you get the hang of it you can create a coil, mount it, dry burn it, install a wick, and vape in 15 minutes or so. A coil will last you for a couple of months or more. I re-wick mine 2 or 3 times a week because I like the fresh flavor that provides.

Rip Trippers on YouTube does a good job of showing how to install coils on various atomizers.

Yep, that's about as much as I use. I've got a small toolbox of stuff, but these days when I build coils I find that all I use is a screwdriver, wire cutters, something to wrap wires around (I typically make 3mm diameter coils so I have a dowel for that) and a pair of scissors to cut the wick. That's it as far as tools go.

I also have a pair of needle nose pliers handy, just in case I need them for something, but I don't bother getting them out unless I really need them. Can't remember the last time I used tweezers

If I do a build for the drippers I have to use 2.5 or 3 but that is so rare. In fact today was the first time in ages to test out my gold plated mech which arrived today!

But my screwdrivers all fell out of their box into a much larger box it was sitting in, I saw the lbs and just wondered.
Works perfect for me as I'm mostly using tight draw kayfuns and stuff arm. those blue screwdrivers are abundant.
I've always got one hangin around.
Why not?
