I started vaping at 9mg. My first goal was to quit smoking. I tried to stop smokes as soon as my little kit arrived. From there it just became frustrating. A week after it arrived I went on a cruise. Figured out I am not seaworthy, got seasick. Finally I just bought some smokes. I dual used. I left the remaining smokes in the cabin thinking that will be last ever. Nope another month or two went by at 18mg vape and smokes.

My new goal was to go to zero nic and quit vaping. I made it back to 9.. then 6.. then 3.. then 0 and 3. After a week I went up to 12mg. I just couldn't cut it. Now I am hovering around 7ish mg.

I still have the goal of quitting vaping. It has just been pushed out.

I was a 35 year, one ppd smoker.

I started vaping with 24 mg (didn't know any better) and was coughing a lot and had a harsh vape. Found ECF and the vets suggested I drop the level down to 18mg or 12 mg. Much better, and entirely better than smoking. After about a year I started dropped down in the nic to 12mg. After another year, I got into rebuildables exclusively and dropped further down to 6 or 3 mg.

I have vaped straight Vg (vegetable glycerin) without any flavor or nicotine when I've had temporary bouts with vaper's tongue, but I did miss that small amount of nicotine when I vaped.

I never intended to ever quit vaping, I was just looking for a healthier way to "smoke". The fact that I have dropped my nicotine consumption over 3 years is just a plus.

Would never waste my money on zero nic. Unless if it would help. I can not understand why someone would vape zero nic. Boggles the mind. To each is own

To the person who couldn't understand why someone would vape 0 mg nicotine, vaping serves many purposes besides nicotine replacement. It can mimic the hand-to-mouth behavior of smoking, which is just as much a psychological habit as the physical addiction to nicotine. It also mimics the inhaling/exhaling behavior of smoking.

Some people vape just for the flavors, like my daughter, who is a nonsmoker. All her friends smoked, and when hanging out together they all smoked around her. She was feeling some peer pressure to take up smoking, too. But she had seen how I quit smoking by vaping as a healthier lifestyle, and she came up with the idea of instead of smoking she could began vaping no-nicotine flavors. This encouraged her boyfriend, a couple of her peers, and her older brother to quit smoking and begin vaping.

I smoked for 43 years and was up around 45 cigarettes a day. Tried everything I was aware of and/or my doctor recommended to quit which all resulted in expensive, spectacular failures.

Long story short, I had to go up to 24mg to completely quit smoking. It was definitely an overdose but that’s what it took to dump smoking completely. After a month or so I had to drop to the 16/18mg range. A while later it was down to 12mg. The nic just kept becoming too much and often felt like I was inhaling pepper spray, for lack of a better comparison, but by then I was into DIY.

There was a fantastic thread called, I think, the Baditude Appreciation Thread. Ran into somebody who was lowering their nic one mg at a time in there. Who woulda thunk it? Thought it was a great idea and started doing the same by mixing each new batch at one mg less than the one before. Vaped more for a day or two after each drop but then it all leveled out again.

I cheated going from 1mg to 0 by doing a batch of 1/2mg. Little did I know then, I can’t feel any nic below 3mg. Stayed off the nic for several months and then got curious what a little nic would be like. Tried 1mg and it did zip. Same with 2mg. Mixed 3mg and hallelujah! I felt normal for the first time since I’d dropped to zero. I was calmer and less anxious, though hadn’t noticed it while I was at the zero mark. Husband said he had. ;)

While I was off the nic, my BP had steadily increased up to 180. That was fun. After returning to the nic it dropped quite a bit, then steadily reduced back into the 120 range. Unfortunately I didn’t know nic could do that at the time so didn’t monitor the symptoms at the time, just put the pieces together after the fact. I now use 0 to 6mg, mostly 3mg and am happy there--physically and mentally.

I went from 24mg to 3mg and now I'm running one tank at 1.5 and one at 0 as well. Why? I'm trying to get off nicotine as slowly as possible. Part of it is psychological and part is physical addiction. I'm replacing nicotine sessions with 0 nic sessions. I don't know if it's mind boggling, it makes perfect sense to me.

Yes, I really wanted to prove to myself that I could kick that addiction, and I did. But nicotine can be beneficial too, minus all the crud BT packs into a cigarette, so not that disappointed I do better with a little in my system. It's a to each their own thing and whatever keeps us from smoking. Congratulations on you journey!

On my second tour of trying (~2013) to switch to vaping I got to 0 nic.

I got there but struggled constantly to not starting smoking again. While it's true you can taper down your consumption and get to the point where you don't have a physical dependence, nicotine is a drug and it does affect you. I still enjoyed and wanting those feelings.

Nicotine after a big meal, or nicotine with caffeine in the morning. Even though I wasn't physically dependent, I missed those moments.

How sure are you that it was the nicotine you missed, rather than the "smoking" ritual?
You're saying that vaping zero nicotine wasn't cutting the mustard?

So I haven't seen a thread like this before, and I thought why not?

So for those of you who have transitioned down to zero nicotine...
Or tried to do so but failed...

Tell us your story!!
:)
Smoker for 3 years. 3ppd. Vaper for 3 more years. Started at 36mg, and worked my way down by 4mg/month. I've been vaping 0 Nic for quite sometime. I'm glad I'm off nicotine. I feel like I get better flavor without it. Vaping is still a great stress relief and I no longer have any Nic urges.

I was a pack a day smoker for about 15 years but have always done low nic vaping. I started at 6mg, moved down to 3mg when I started sub ohm and now I use 0 about half the time. I haven't been able to fully pull the trigger on using 0 all the time but am pretty close to the point where I probably could drop the 3mg bottles out of the rotation without much struggle. I feel like I've always been more addicted to the process of smoking than to the nicotine. Even now I vape in the house but still go outside and vape for like ten minutes with about the same regularity as I used to take smoke breaks. I don't really worry about the nicotine though, I have no goal to cut it down or get to zero I just seem to prefer a lower nicotine amount in general. If I ever do go down to all zero it will likely be because I'm out of nicotine to mix in my juice and decide I don't need to buy a new bottle rather than because I want to quit nicotine.

Zero nic? I went the opposite way and kept raising my nic little by little. At 40 mg, my heart rate increased and I lost weight. I was 50mg my hands were shaking. At 75mg, I got an entire days work done in 2 hours but everything appeared red - like heat vision. For the two weeks I was at 100mg I'd black out and wake up naked far from home covered in blood and fur. There were reports of animals being killed by something at the zoo so I went back down to 75mg because I like going to the zoo. The Capuchins make me laugh.

Smoked for abt 35 years. 2 PAD before I quit almost 5 years ago.

I ordered my first ecig not to quit smoking, but to use when it might be more convenient then smoking but before it arrived in the mail I decided to give quitting a try. If I succeeded great, if I failed, no big deal since I hadn't ordered it with the intention of quitting anyways. I quit smoking the first week. :)

At the time (2010) I started vaping we were waiting for the court decision on ecigs and since I was determined NEVER to go back to smoking after quitting I decided I needed to decrease the amount of nic I used in case the ruling went against us. Over abt 3 months I'd made my way down to most often using 6 mg and I was extremely surprised and happy with that. At the time, I didn't intend to be nic free anytime soon. ;) In Jan of 2011 I came down with strep throat and vaping any nic was extremely painful for my throat so I was vaping some zero nic I'd mixed when a family emergency occurred. Abt six hours into the emergency I realized I'd constantly vaped for those 6 hours, but I'd never once craved a cigarette or nicotine  That was when I realized I was no longer addicted to nicotine. I certainly was still addicted to the actions of smoking back then.

Since that day I've vaped lots of zero nic juice. There are some juices that honestly just taste better with a little nic in them so I vape them with low levels of nic. About a year ago I realized that I had been vaping 3mg juice more often then my zero nic and wondered if any addiction to the nic had kicked in again so I purposely vaped only zero nic for a month watching for any signs of addiction again to the nic. None showed up :) Today I continue to vape when I feel like it because I enjoy it and its relaxing for me not because of any addiction to nic OR the actions of smoking. I will likely always use some nic occasionally because I see no reason not to, but most often vape zero nic.

I smoked a PAD for about 37 years before I switched to vaping. Started with 18 mg juice and over about nine months weaned down to zero where I stayed for about half a year. These days I vape low nic juice sometimes but mostly do zero nic.

I'm not addicted to nic but I like a bit of TH and the peppery flavor sometimes. I like my nic to be harsh with high TH because I don't need to use much of that to get the effect I'm looking for.

Close but not quite there yet.
I started off on 18mg 80/20 cheap e-liquids. Eventually settled in at 12mg with some decent US made liquids. After starting to DIY and moving to higher production RTA/RDA devices, I worked down to 3mg/1mg e-liquids.
Mostly very happy with my mixes at this level, but may give a few recipes a try at ....errr..... 0mg and see how they work out.:vapor:
