Hi Everyone:

I've been vaping now for about 3 months and don't mix my own - just buy well known juices.
Recently I have noticed that my Halo VooDoo has turned into a basic orange flavor and has lost all of
the complexity it had.
Also, Jango (Seduce juice) has now taken on a minty flavor that I very much dislike - mint that is.
The real disappointment to me is Tribeca which is my ADV has taken on a sort of unpleasant chemical taste in my most recent
bottle. Edit: This is an off and on flavor change where I get the unknown chemical taste...
I have read that steeping improves flavors but it seems in my case to have damaged the flavors - to my taste.
None of the flavors I have are old so it is a real mystery to my inexperience.
The other flavors I have that have not changed are Kremlin, Snake Oil, Cafe Mocha, Night Shift (Velvet Cloud) and Cherub.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

First most - Hi and Welcome to ECF :)

Are you about 3 months (give or take) from your quit smoking date as well? My thought is that you are regaining your taste back. The change is amazing lol it happened for me about 2-2.5 months in with no smoking.

Also - especially with the mint - it does become *much* more prevalent in flavors with "a hint of mint" after a longer steep.

Hi:
Thanks for the welcome.
Actually, I quit 4 years ago but was using alternate forms of tobacco to supply my nicotine prior to vaping:). Started using the various store bought e-cigs like Blu - couldn't stand the taste. So, started vaping and really enjoy the flavors and variety.
Maybe the horrible tasting e-cigs I was using altered my taste buds and still need time to recover from them.
I do notice that as time has progressed from my start of vaping that I am able to discern more flavors. I did have a period where I was having lots of trouble tasting flavors day to day. I hope the effect of the grocery store e-cigs is the problem.
I will keep on going - no intention of reverting back to tobacco or Blu type e-cigs.

How does one use "alternate forms of tobacco to supply my nicotine prior to vaping"?

I believe that OP meant alternate forms of nicotine. The wording is easily confused and terms over lapped and misused when one is new to all of this.

ETA~ Or OP meant using something like chew as a replacement?

Usually it means Snus or some form of smokeless tobacco.

To the the original poster, drink lots of water and you may see a difference in the taste of your juice. Vaping dries you our more than you think, since VG and especially PG are humectants. A significant portion of the vapor you exhale is loaded with moisture absorbed from your mouth and sinuses by the vapor you inhale.

That, and you may be detecting nuances of the juices you didn't notice previously. It could be batch variations, also. Lots of things can change the flavor.

Well, the same thing is happening to me. I've been off for a week and all of my flavors are muted. Brush your teeth a lot more. Use a good mouth wash. Make sure to stay hydrated and take something if you have seasonal allergies. I'm a training coffee Q grader and that's my biggest issue right now, is the olfactory portion of it and it's because of my very bad sinus issues. So I take a claritin-d before training and man it makes such a difference.

2 1/2 to 3 months...oh how I remember that period in my vaping career. Everything...and I mean everything...started tasting awful. Of course, at that time I only had a few tobacco flavors on hand. I went on what is known in my household as "The great tobacco hunt of 2012". A new package of sample flavors arrived in my mailbox almost daily. Bottles and bottles of exquisitely named tobacco flavors, steeping and tasting and steeping some more...all but one tasted awful. That one lone flavor (a totally unheralded cherry cigar flavor) out of 50 or more bottles is what got me through that very tough stretch. Now, after 20 months, I still use that flavor at times, but I mostly vape straight unflavored. You never know what will get you over the hump...but never give up.

Yes that is it - the more unpleasant forms of tobacco including the time honored tradition of chewing on cigars.:D

What are you vaping them with and when was the last time you changed out the coil and/or the wick? Dirty gear can make any liquids taste bad, off or weird.

I've been doing a lot of rinsing and drinking a lot more water. It seems odd that just the 3 flavors out of 8 have changed.
Interesting you mention olfactory sense, as my favorite Tribeca tastes and smells so different if inhaled compared to taking the vape into my mouth and exhaling part through my nose (without inhaling). It is very nasty smelling if not inhaled to the lungs. Perhaps the Texas allergy season is getting the best of me. I would think all flavors would be very similar to their fragrance if exhaled through my nose - guess not.

What are you vaping them with and when was the last time you changed out the coil and/or the wick? Dirty gear can make any liquids taste bad, off or weird.

I have simple gear. SmokTech variable volt 1300 mAH battery, Kanger T3S bottom coil or Aspire dual bottom coil tanks.
I had not been real great on frequently changing coils. I have started to get more active to get the coils to last longer.
My coil cleaning is - soak and rinse with water, then an alcohol soak , then water and let dry. Burn coil and reuse. I do sometimes disassemble leaking or problem coils, check the wick in the heating element and clean the build up on the coil off with vinegar (if possible).
I don't know enough to know when a wick is gone so I clean and reuse until the coil or atomizer head leaks to where I can get it to stop.
So then I replace coils that are leaky and can't be fixed. I also check the resistance of the coil and if it is too far above what it is supposed to be I discard and replace with new coil. I think increasing resistance in a coil would indicate an area on the wire that is thinning causing the resistance to go up and probably near dead.
Again this is pretty new to me.

Some juices have some level of alcohol content that I would assume comes from the flavorings and additives. Steeping for a week or so with the lid off seems to cure that particular bitter taste. Squeeze the bottle daily while steeping to exhaust the air and it might help the flavor.

There's no telling what affects the flavor of some juices. Anything I can't vape now gets steeped. If that doesn't cure it, the bottle goes into a box I only open when I'm out and depending on my "last resort" juices to get me through until the mailman arrives. :)
