Hi there, been lurking for a few weeks and took the plunge and registered now that my ego batteries and juice have come in. I followed the directions that came with the EVODs as far as filling goes (slowly drip around the inside rim while taking care to not spill in the inner tube) but when it came to 'light up' so to speak, I was greeted by a chemical taste not unlike Pinesol. I noticed this taste was strongest with the Lemon flavor from Hangsen, though I caught a decent trace of it in their 555 tobacco flavor as well. I saw a lot of talk online about 'priming' your cartos, but they seemed to me to be referring to a different kind of object, one that contains some filler material inside. Do the EVOD guys need to be primed as well? Best I can tell they just need to be filled and used according to the instructions but I am a beginner so I very well may have screwed up.

Something to note, I ordered the juice from fasttech and the bottles have all the little markings on them that the Hangsen website says to check for to ensure the product is real. Could I gotten a fake or bad batch?

Perhaps it may have been the cartomizers that came with the batteries? I picked up a few spare EVODs and I still have all three flavors of the juice so I can give it the old proverbial go again at any time.

Any advice is welcome since I am using Blu disposables for the moment until I get my setup working correctly. This is a second worry in itself since these disposables are double the strength of the liquid I purchased (12mg liquid) and I still am fiending for a cigarette madly on my second day without them. I sure hope the 12 can do the job! I will say that compared to my initial chemical blast, both the tobacco and menthol Blu are really tasty and extremely pleasant to vape so I don't think my issue is my dead taste buds (though it very well could be anyways!).

Thanks!

(uploaded a picture so it's more obvious than my bad descriptions. This guy should just need to be filled a bit, closed, and then go to go, right?)

I usually wash the evods or clearomizers in and water before I use them and let them dry out sometimes there is residue on the coils that tastes bad. They also need to break in a bit after a tank they get better. It could be the juice also that is giving off the flavor does it smell chemically ? Good luck also I have better luck with us liquids.

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I gave them a rinse before anything. The lemon juice actually smells like a Jolly Rancher, so I was hoping it would taste like one too and I don't notice any chemical smell from the bottles themselves. I guess at this point, I should use one of the spares I have and see if I get the same chemical taste to pinpoint if its the juice or not.

It's been said. Always clean the gear that comes in the mail. Juices need to steep. 24 hours open air in a dry, dark place (cupboard?), then several days to several weeks to fully allow the flavor bonds to form among the chemicals. I DIY, but if I ran out of juice, I'm a week out before my juice is ready...and the longer, the better. Even though those juices have been mailed and taken time to arrive, they have probably not been steeped fully, as well. Clean gear, steeped juice, good flavor selection, good vape.

It could just be the juice. Some times they sound like they will be good but they dont turn out to be.

I definitely haven't ruled that out. The Blu disposables are actually quite good tasting but they are far too expensive to continually buy (cost more than smoking real cigarettes here). There is a vape shop nearby and if worse comes to worst I will put these liquids in a shelf for a little while and buy some different ones to compare and contrast.

I am willing to try anything and everything to leave this 12 year cigarette habit behind me!

One tip, before you fill your tank put a couple drops on the wick on both sides. The wick is those short fibers that are sticking out on both sides of the atomizer just below the silicone grommet on the stem. This gives the wick a head start in absorbing your juice so that when you screw your tank on it cuts down on how long you need to wait before vaping. Once you have your tank assembled, just stand it upright (mouthpiece on top) and wait for a couple of minutes to allow the wick to get saturated.

After that put the tank and battery together and vape away! It may take a couple of draws before you start getting any vapor, but that's normal.

Well, I have 3 bottles open in the cabinet but I almost reached for an analog so I filled up one of the spare evods taking care this time to not spill in the middle pipe and to wet the wicks beforehand.

Much much better than at first with lemon. I can detect a faint tinge of what I got the first time sometimes, but it's very faint and almost a little bit fishy tasting. I suppose this is just the juice itself and I must have gotten some inside the mouthpiece/tube the first time.

I'm encouraged by this even though the smoke isn't as rich and the taste isn't as good as the Blu disposable I was using. I guess at this point I just need to find the right mix of vg/pg for me as well as the winning flavor.

My only questions at this point would be:

Is there any particular way you want to hold the e-cig while vaping? (parallel to the ground, vertically) Does it even matter using these types of cartomizers?

The evod gets a little bit hot at times; do I want to let it cool off between hits?

I hear a bit of a gurgle, mostly if I drag too hard. This is normal, and means I should not puff as hard, correct?

Thanks again!

I believe Blu uses a 100% vg juice and a bit higher nic, so they will have a thicker more rich vapor than a PG/VG mix but still have some throat hit due to the nic.

Regarding hold the unit, EVODs are bottom coil clearo's so as long as they are occasionally upright (vertical) the wicks should have regular enough contact with the juice. On top coil clearos such as vivi's etc you would sometimes need to to tip it upside down (mouthpiece down) to make sure it would stay wet/wicking properly.

They will get pretty warm over the course of a vape session, but should not be getting 'hot' in a dangerous way, if thats the case may want to investigate more closely.

The gurgling is not unusual but shouldnt be a consistent thing really, try drawing slower and more evenly and see if that helps. Also keep in mind that pg/vg ratio will effect the juices ability to wick (ie VG juices are thicker, wick slower, but less likely to flood and gurgle). If you have consistent problems with it, you can open up the EVOD head (ato) and see what youve got for flavor wicks and add/remove them till you get the desired results(sounds hard, actually quite easy to do).

Honestly though, once you get your setup dialed in and mix figured out, you should be getting vapor, flavor, and battery life that blows those Blu's away.
