Hi Experts.

I've tried searching thru the forums for an answer, but i haven't found anything that matches my problem exactly.

here's what's going on: about a week ago, 2 out of 4 of my atty's developed a bad, burnt taste that caused my throat to burn when inhaled directly, and when mouth inhaled didn't burn but still tasted bad...and the vapor upon exhale didn't smell too good either.

now, most posts say that it is because the atty is too dry. well, instead of using carts, i tried direct dripping on them, to the same effect. still tastes bad. i have tried hot water rinse, boiling water rinse, rinsing in almost boiling water with lemon juice in it, 91% isopropel alcholol with water (prolly 1:3 ratio) in a sonic cleaner, letting the thing dry, with battery side up and a twisted paper towel in the other side overnight. nothing seems to work. these atty's are only about 3-4 weeks old as well, and were cycled, so not vaped on incredibly heavy. they still produce the typical 510 vapor, just taste bad.

now, i also have a 3rd atty that behaves strangely. it will taste great and perform like new, then stop. but if i take a quick hard "primer" puff (without pushing the button and activating the atty), then take a normal drag, it tastes great again, but the next drag if i don't do that it tastes like crap. if i direct drip into it, it will do great for 8-10 drags then back to square one.

the carts i'm using are the standard carts with the blue foam mod. the strange part is, when i take the carts off, there is usually still liquid in there. sometimes there's not, but usually there is. when i blow out the atty to check to see if it had any fluid in it when i get the bad taste, if i blow from the batt side not much comes out...but if i blow on the cart side, a lot of juice comes out the batt end.

theories i've developed: could the atty be getting flooded and still working, ie blue foam actually wicking too much fluid? if so, why the bad taste tho?

could the atty just not be wicking fluid anymore (taste associated with a dry atty, but cart full of fluid, and i know the blue foam wicks...at least i think it does)?

i've ordered new attys, but i dont' think that these have died (especially the one that i can prime then use) as they still produce vapor...i would think that when an atty dies it means that the coil doesn't work anymore and will not heat/produce vapor.

any and all help appreciated, you guys are my last (but hopefully best) resort!!

Hi Spartan,

You seem to have tried and ruled out every theory there is. Which brings me to my theory–which I am still investigating, but from what I have scene, I believe there are 510 atomizers being released onto the marketplace with defective nickel mesh. The mesh is suppose to wick the e-liquid, but not burn. As the theory would go, the mesh on some of the 510 atomizers is in fact an inferior material that is burning and giving off a burnt taste.

This is one of the most prevalent complaints that I get PM’ed to me and that I see posted on the Forum all the time now.

I stopped using the 510 a long while back, but because of these reports, I went and bought a new kit and experienced what a whole host of Members here have also experienced.

So I will buy 3 more 510 atomizers from 3 different Suppliers to confirm the theory, that there is in fact a defect in some 510 atomizers.

I hope that helps,

Sun
