I got a Grand in copper vein, which, as it turns out I don't really care for and it was starting to darken. So, having reviewed another members thread here (forgot who, sorry, but you get full credit) on stripping a REO, I proceeded to do mine. It required some patience but the result is very nice. I also hit it with the buffer out in the garage for a few minutes and put a bit of car wax on it to hopefully keep it shiny for a little while. I am pretty happy with it.

The before and after....the little mini mini is going into the shop this week for a new 510 and upgrades. Can't wait.

Wow!! You did an incredible job Mousie!! Looks stunning!!! Do you have a link to the thread showing what to do? Never know... may need it for reference one day.

But for the time being, my Copper Vein still looks like the day I got it -- which is absolutely beautiful. Clear coating it with Rustoleum within 3 days of getting it has really protected the paint. ;) So much so, that I'll do it to every Reo Grand I own.

Pretty much went like this:

1. Copper vein is a very pretty finish, even if it needs some extra love clearcoat. So I am not going there. I bought this off the classies and was not concerned with color. I decided I didn't care for it.

2. I took it completely apart so that the only thing left on it was the 510 connector
3. I used zip strip paint stripper all over it. I put It on a nice thick newspaper and used a toothbrush to put the goop on.
4. I used 000 steel wool, elbow grease and mind jedi to get the finish off. It took a couple hours.
5. Don't let your wife see you doing this on the kitchen counter
6. You may use a pin or mini screwdriver with the 000 steel wool to get to the small crevices inside. Or you might still be here next week. I did what seemed reasonable and I didn't hoople it.
7. You wash it out really really good, three times with soap.
8. Polish the whole thing with the 000 steel wool as good as you can and then find the missing paint stuff that you missed.
9. Wash it again
10. Go get the white bar of polishing compound and put some of that on your polishing wheel. Carefully polish using that grit and make sure you don't let the material get away from you (safety caution and your REO does not want to be embedded in the broken windshield of your project car).
11. Get it really shiny.
12. Wipe all the compound off that has burnt on, etc. Use water and a nice soft cloth
13. Check your teeth in the door
14. Put a light coat of car wax minwax or whatever and buff.
15. Go inside and rebuild it and vape it
16. Post about how cool it is.

17. It's not really a mirror finish. I have to go back with some 2000 grit and start over :)

It looks nice and it's very smooth. I have this mini 1.0 anodized, and I can't get over the smooth feel. I wanted smooth.

Okay, let us know how you do.

The finish is a personal choice, I chose this, it is not a bang on any REO factory finish. I just wanted polished alum. It looks better from a cam than in person but it's stunning.

The door is most perfectly machined with fewer marks, but the whole thing will need going over with up to 2000 grit and then polish if I want mirror. I am looking at it now and .....I just hit it. NICE>

So there is the process. Be careful strippers can be dangerous and you should be careful around them and keep your pets away.

Once a stripper fell in love with my dog, and it was not good. But I degrease.

Great job. Looks awesome. :) I recently stripped a copper vein as well. At the recommendation of Capt.Steve, I used Klean Strip:

Klean Strip | Aircraft® Paint Remover - Aerosol

I picked it up at O'rielly's auto parts.

I let it soak for about 10 minutes, and the powder coat swelled up like crazy. It just wiped right off, inside and out, not a single spec left. Awesome stuff.

I stripped one of my painted minis with Grease Lightening (think I spelled that correctly). Only took minutes..literally...then sanded with 1500 to 3000 buffing car sand paper stuff...then mirrored it up with Nevr-Dull and Mothers Mag with micro fiber cloth.

Stunning Reo mousie!

Oh, BTW...I wash in between with a scotchbrite pad and Dawn soap. Love that soap...it removes all hand grease etc...only soap I use cause it doesn't leave a film.
