Hey guys,
I saw a thread earlier about scraping the paint off the unit to the bare metal but is there a chemical way of removing the paint? I want to have the housings to the batteries and atomizers gold or rhodium plated and it seems the plain stainless steel parts are harder then crows teeth to find. I am afraid that scraping the paint off will leave nasty scrapes or leave residue behind. Anyone have any luck with chemically stripping the paint off their e-cig.

If you use sandpaper to remove the paint it really doesn't leave any scratches. Especially if you do it with an electric screwdriver like in this video, and then finish it off with a really fine grit sandpaper:

You could try acetone, you might have it in your workshop as a solvent or if you have nail polish remover in your house.

They sell a aerosol paint remover at autoparts stores. It's usually branded as an aircraft paint remover. Works great. You just spray it on and it bubbles the paint right off. Wear gloves, plug the openings and spray somewhere outside....
Thanks for the tip I will look for it next time I am in Autozone.

I tried acetone and it didn't seem to work. I am sure I could do it with the Dremel, but I am not the most handy person with them so I was just looking for something that would make my life a bit easier.

Thanks for your reply.

I tossed a dead 801 black atomizer into an ultrasonic cleaner with good fluid and ran it for about an hour and when I got it out the paint all just came right off.

Didn't fix the atomizer though :-(.

That the reason I stopped using one. Also a soak for a day in alcohol bubbles the paint.

I've stripped a few using acetone, you have to scratch the paint a little bit so the acetone gets underneath it. I usually just soak it for maybe 5 minutes, take it out and rub it with a paper towel soaked in acetone.

Clean it out with hot water and let it dry before using.

i'm doing the same, works great.

Pop 'em in some IPA (Iso-Propyl-Alcohol) for a coupla days, remove soft paint with finger nail................takes about 2 minutes & you end up with a nice shiny Stainless finish.

Although when I cleaned the atomiser for my pass through using this method the finish was a bit dull - didn't look so nice.

that works too,but not as easy as acetone.it peels off easier.
