loud pipes only cost more and piss people off....

If ya drive like everyone out on the road is trying to kill ya you have a chance.

MY theory is to drive so fast noone has a CHANCE to pull out in front of you.......

Sounds like you want to rid the world of motorcyclists. Quiet pipes and drive fast to give noone a chance.

I saw something today directly related to this. It's a matter of the human mind and perception. If they aren't LOOKING for a motorcycle but are watching for cars... their brains do not register the bike. It has to do with the brains filters for info to go into our short term memory which last for most only 7-10 seconds before being lost. The info you make important goes to the long term at that time.
If you wanna do something to put in their brains long term do an old outlaw biker trick. Carry a whip around and whack their side mirrors off when they get close. :D

I have come to the conclusion that most people are not smart enough to drive at all. You know what gets my goat? Its people that get in the left lane and set there cruise controle at 55mph! Stupid, stupid people.

So true! You should come out to the the east coast. I would say 95% of people can't drive lol

31 year round years of driving bikes full time... I've worn 2 Kawasaki Concours out, currently drive an 08 Honda ST1300 and have had thousands of near misses thru the years but only one wreck...

That wreck was 1 mile from the house and involved a deer.

Loud pipes do nothing for the driver until the bike is close enough for the driver to hear them.....By then its too late.

Attitude of the motorcyclist is key to survival and sobriety is your best friend. If you dont have your head on a swivel, dont know where an "Out" is every second you are in traffic you need to buy a cage and put a "For Sale" on the bike.

People in cages dont see you or even if they do they dont care about you.....Your smaller then they are. If you cannot accept this fact go get a cage and leave the motorcycles for those that can handle them. The last 3 people that pulled out in front of me looked me right in the EYE then pulled out.

There are only 2 ways to get noticed on a motorcycle..... #1 What do we have to do to get noticed? - YouTube

And Number 2, smile and nod as you DRIVE BY.

Everything else is a crapshoot!

Completely and totally disagree with this. Loud pipes saved my skin MANY times when I was a rider. I used them rather than my horn. Your pipes must not have been very...uhh...LOUD!!

This is very true. If you don't believe this, then I'm sure you probably believe all those people with the loud pipes are annoying stupid bikers who are just trying to look and sound cool. There's been many times where I was able to grab the clutch and give a quick twist of the throttle to remind people I was there when they almost moved over into me. This is easier to do than honk the horn, as the horn is about the most awkward thing on a bike. At least with the clutch in and the quick twist method, you can easily go from that to hitting your brakes if they don't pay attention. Not so easy to do with the horn.

Oh....we're gonna Let the loud pipes save our skins and forget about driver skills.....

I see.

The pipes are pointed to the rear of the bike. Physics says that the only ones that are gonna hear you are the ones behind you.

Makes good sense to me to pull in the clutch while someones about to take your lane.......

I'll say it again, loud pipes spend money and only serve to piss people off.

I'll take a loud omni directional horn and 125 hp at the rear wheel any day over a set of ear splitters and a prayer.

This is why I try to never ride next to a car. And if I pass, I pass quickly. Also have a strobe on my headlight during the daylight hours ...anything to make myself more visible since people do NOT pay attention as they should.....

And to hairball....my dad drove truck and I know what you are saying but on the flip side, I can't count the number of semi's that would not move to the inside lane so that cars could merge safely onto the interstate...........and I am talking nobody coming in that lane and nobody there so there is NO reason for them not to be courteous and move over.

That's your stance on anybody with loud pipes? That we just do it to piss people off? You must have never ridden a bike or are a complete noob to it. Either that, or you're one of those people who bought a nice big harley and only ride 4 days out of the year, never wear a helmet but love your shorts and flip flops, and call yourself a biker. When you're on a bike, you do whatever you can to be seen heard and HOPE your skills are enough to get you through any situation you come across. You use lights, reflective gear, loud horn, loud pipes, whatever you can to be seen and heard. Cause I hate to tell ya, but your skills are never going to be as good as you might think they are. If you think that your skills are really that advanced that all you need is a loud horn and massive horsepower cause you're THE MAN, then you shouldn't be riding as you're a hazard to everybody.

Those are just a few examples of a quick internet search. Obviously it's not just a small group of people who believe in it.

I ride daily in the dfw metropolitan area. Drivers pull the same thing and so will other folks on bikes. I ride a Harley and will till I can't any more have LOUD drag pipes on my bike. Also a nice biker whip and a vest pocket full of the big marbles. The pipes and a whip will help as the pipes give off sound and the whip does its thing in the wind when clipped to your lever. I do ride as every one is out to kill me so im always looking for my "outs" and have needed them a time or two. It's sad most people don't look for us so we look for them. Not to say have not had my fun with cages though. To all my fellow riders on here, keep the rubber on the road and the wind in your hair/head lol

Its a patch Mike.....Its just a patch. if 10,000 people wore a patch that said "smoking is good for you" would you accept THAT as fact too?

My riding gear is head to toe and armoured because road rash sucks and at 50 I dont heal like I used too.AGATT stands for ALL GEAR ALL THE TIME. It'll literally keep your skin on you.

Noob??? I've been commuting on 2 wheels full time since 1982....Currently in the Atlanta area. My current bike is an 08 ST1300. Yup, its a Honda cause I got tired of wrenching and polishing chrome on nice warm sunny days when I should be riding. Had a Harley.....Sold it and bought a Honda and a Kawasaki.Spent the CHANGE on gas for both. I'm not gonna get into the whole Harley vs Everyone else because all I look at is the number of wheels....I ride what I like and expect others will do the same.

Admittedly nothing sounds quite as good as a set of short shots on a well tuned Dyna But lets look at the real reason folks put loud pipes on their bikes. They do it to try and get a low horsepower engine to perform. Low Horse power you say?? Yeah, them Vtwins are dogs....Slow dogs....OLD SLOW CRIPPLED UP DOGS.....Most cant get out of their own way....No ground clearance in the turns.....A minor touch down will cost thousands to repair. The ONLY thing I liked about mine was the fact that it was all metal.Of course that was the bikes Achilles heal too. 795 pounds and only 85 horses from the factory. I put pipes and air filters and all kinds of farkles on that thing and although it LOOKED GREAT and sounded nice it was still a BRICK up in the North Georgia Mountains.

Attitude and agility.....thats what saves lives my friends..... The rest is just Farkles and personal preferance.

But, like Sporty48 said....Keep the rubber on the road....A hand full of sparkplugs in the fairing, the wind in your hair and a grin on the face.

Hopefully I'll see ya out there.

I'll agree with ya on them....

Victory makes a NICE machine. Almost bought a Cross country Tourer till the stealer tried to add about 2 grand in fees.

Looked at the Triumphs lately?

Yea! Those would be an option as well. I used to ride a Yamaha 1100 Classic. Loved it!! But these days, I'm trying to spend my money on American made stuff. (Said while puffing on an eGo.):facepalm:
