Hi all.

I know this has been asked before and most people are against freezing eliquid (flavoured ones) but what about menthol?

I have a lot of strong ice menthol at home. I store it in a dark place but during the summer (and even these last few days) I have like 100.4F here... The liquid is pretty warm. I'm sure this isn't good at all and it's already turning darker... Which it shouldn't unless it's the nicotine itself.

Now I know some flavourings will suffer from freezing but how does menthol react besides crystallize?

You know that despite everything I've read , I will probably freeze a small bottle anyway to test in loco how it is affected and in that case, how long do you think a bottle should be frozen to notice a bad reaction, decomposition, whatever? 24 hours, a week? My freezer is at -10F btw.

Yes but there it's in the reach of everyone. I rather have it stashed away of curious eyes :)

Anyway, I went ahead and froze 100ml of it... Will let it frozen for 48 hours and then unfreeze and vape it. I guess that should be enough to see if the menthol crystals or some residual water destroy the flavor or not :)

next time try using a smaller bottle in case it does destroy its quality.... no sense in trashing 100ml :)

Good point... Now it's too late lol
Just checked the bottle and there was no expansion although it now looks kinda weird with all those menthol crystals that formed. Almost like frozen snow. I thought it frozen completely but no, it has the consistency of plasticine... Been in the freezer for 6 hours now.

the main change will occur when it becomes frozen.... if any change occurs it will probably happen when it thaws out.... give it a shot let us know if you see any difference in vape quality.... tell us what juice it was, the flavor, PG/VG ratios and nic level....
Ice menthol from wicked eLiquid, 24mg, 50:50 pg/vg ratio

I usually vape it cut down at 18mg with 33% pg and 67% vg (adv)

PS : I have 500ml of it so 100mg isn't the end of the world and the smallest pharmacy dark amber glass bottle I had at hand was 100ml

I have heard it repeated many times, "Don't freeze flavored e-liquid". I have never seen a real reason why, though.

As far as I can tell, there have been only 2 sources of this:

One from a flavor vendor who said "Just store it in a cool dry place. Refrigeration or freezing should not be necessary"

The other was from a vaper who said his e-liquid, in the refrigerator, "tasted rancid" but that was supposedly from contamination with foods.

Does anybody have a real source of info as to why one shouldn't freeze flavored liquids? It would seem reasonable that this would prolong their life.

Well I certainly don't know why it's a no no and that's why I sacrificed 100ml in the name of science... I do believe it probably is a bad idea for complex flavors or such but almost strait menthol? Can't see anything going bad there... Don't know... Will know in about 36 hours though ;)

Hi all

I couldn't wait longer... It was frozen for over 24 hours so any cold induced damage should appear. Once frozen it's frozen so I guess it won't matter if it is for a day or a month (correct me if I'm wrong)

Anyway... Bottle Unfrozen (surprisingly much faster than water) and here are the results :

- color same
- taste same
- smell same
- vape same

I can't tell apart the frozen stuff from the original

Bottom line : freezing 350ml right now and only keeping enough for a week supply out of the freezer.
I stored a 10ml bottle of the original in a dark place. Will compare the frozen batch to the dark stored one in December... Let's find out which one will degrade more.

I also have some inawera stuff in the mail so I probably will also freeze a sample of their menthol juice and see if the results are the same :)
