Sub ohm A7 firing on ProVari

Just wrapped 30 gauge kanthal 7 times around a fat wick (I think it's silica? Could be cotton >.>), ProVari is telling me it's 0.9 ohms, but it fires and vapes. Somewhat warm, but not burning the wick.

So why do 7/8 wraps with 30g kanthal give me 0.8 ohms on my AGA-T2 but won't fire and returns error codes? I should the leg from the wick to the positive post glows, but none of the rest of the coils glow.

So is it possible that I've wrapped the coil too tightly? I'm actually not sure I could get the wick out of the coils :p

I got rid of the hot spot, but even at 7 wraps it's steadily reading .9 ohms. I think I would be in absolute heaven if I had a mechanical. Is the 30g just too thick compared to 32g to get above 1.2 ohms?

Edit: still have a top coil hotspot -_-

Sounds to me like your wire mesh is still a conductor to get that low a reading in the AGA. Set your Provari to a low voltage and start pulsing it. Use very short pulses to start with, and you can then lengthen the pulses as your wick becomes properly oxidized. What do you mean by "doubled it" it in your A7? I have a 5/6 wrap in mine and it measures 2.1 ohms.

Could I pull the wick and coil off while wrapped and hit it with the torch again? Or would I start fusing them together? A lot of times I can't get so much as a pulse without an error code.

I meant by dubbed that I named it. I did a second 5/6 wrap in the A7 that's at 1.5 ohms. I have no way to check but I'm thinking maybe they gave me 28g by accident?

The weird thing with the AGA is I know for a fact it came with 32g which I used the first time I got it, and it worked perfectly. I wanted to change juices and practice some more, and now I can't seem to get it with the 30g.

Okay, so I went ahead and pulled the wick with the coil still wrapped out. Torched the living death out of it. Put it back in, coils starting to glow evenly. Working out the hotspots. bottom two or three coils won't quite glow yet. But reading 2 ohms.

I'm not sure exactly how I fixed it, but chalk it up to the extra oxidizing with the coil wrapped.

So you have "dual coils" in your A7? Remember that with DC's the resistance will be only half that of each coil.
