Hello! Just as a tiny bit of back story, I recently quit smoking cigarettes after 10 plus years of smoking when I discovered the little Juul device. I eventually switched to the icare mini after going on endless pod searches sometimes resulting in spending $25 a pack
A friend of mine recently showed me his smok al85, and I have to say I'm very interested in purchasing one of these. The size is perfect and aside from not understanding the menu options, it seems like a good mod to start with. Obviously hearing all of the horror stories with mods this past few years, I'm going in a little skeptical, and that may just be due to my own ignorance with this kind of stuff, but I was wondering if anybody here could help me with my concerns.
Is the Smok al85 a safe device? And i know it comes with both a .4 and .6 coil but wouldnt these technically fall under sub ohm vaping which I've heard is where a lot of the problems come from?
If anyone has any answers or advice at all I'd be more than appreciative!
Welcome and glad you joined.
With the right help from your friends, and going from AIO simple device to an advanced vaping device, you should be ok.

Hey guys! Thanks again for all of the responses it's helped me feel a lot more comfortable.

I did end up buying the al85 today and couldn't be happier! I went with an lg hg2 battery as suggested by a few of you and I've been constantly reading on safety and battery care so I'm feeling pretty confident!

I guess my only question now would be are there any signs I should look for to know something might be wrong with the battery. Aside from the appearance of the actual battery itself is there like a smell, feel, sound etc that would occur? The device is a little warm during use, I'm assuming that is normal obviously haha, but would it be like extremely hot if something bad were about to occur?

Thanks again everyone!

I actually tried to upload a picture of the battery i purchased but it said the file was too large? Idk, but I just wanted to show the little vents around the positive side of the battery are a little covered on one side, not entirely though. In other words it just doesn't seem perfectly centered in the wrap or something. Don't know if that's cause for alarm?

Check my blog about batteries.

But the wrap is there for two things, one is to shield the shell (that is ALL negative), and the other is to hold the insulation ring on top.

As long as it's not ripped, it can be a bit off-center, but as long as it's intact and the ring on top is held correctly, it's fine.

The only thing that you might need to be sure about is that you do have a genuine LG battery as it's a common model to be a counterfeit (and using a much lower quality one). So make sure that the store you got it from can confirm that it's a genuine one.

The main danger (and warning sign) with batteries is heat.. if it becomes hot, then you should stop, and try and see why.

It is normal for them to get warm, and if the mod itself gets hot, check if it's the battery(ies) or just the board/mod that is getting hot... depending on your tank and coil, some tanks can get very hot and the heat is transferred to the mod.
