:danger:

Just putting that there for people who find denture talk ah, problematic, though I can't see why.

I'm in the middle of some pretty extensive oral surgery which involves the use of denture implants to stabilize my jaw, as after 10 years of using denture adhesive and chewing? Well, your jaw breaks down over time, and I also desire to stabilize my jaw and have, you know, the ability to chew until I die (I guess, now I'm not smoking I have to push that date out, some). I've had 8 implants put in and some bone shaving, and yesterday I went for my final follow up and 2 of my implants had failed, which isn't unusual...

What is unusual (and I can't mention my oral surgeon's name, he asked me not to tell anyone about him, LOL) is that my oral surgeon, who may be one of the nicest men on earth, is going to replace 2, possibly 3 implants *for free* as I have no dental insurance (and when you're paying 11K for stuff, dental insurance doesn't help much anyway). I was shocked, I mean, I signed paperwork indicating that I knew that on average, 1 out of 6 implants *will fail* and that's just the luck of the draw. But, my peroidontist was super happy I quit smoking, says my mouth is much healthier, etc. and refused to accept my *suggestion* that he not do the top implant as he said at the time he was iffy about it, and it might fail, but I'd be ok with three, he just ah, VOLUNTEERED. I think he feels bad due to my age, and I also asked him what appeared (to him) to be the funniest post impant question he had ever recieved, which I cannot mention here due to the rules of the site... I will merely mention my oral surgeon's response which was, "Yes! Yes, you can and MUST do that for your husband, it will keep him young!" (Amidst choking on laughter, I guess I could've googled, heh.)

So, first of all, I was happy/sad because I'm heartily sick of this mess, also in recovery and DO NOT use sedation OR anything but advil in the week(s) that follow. Being awake for like 2 hours of dental surgery sucks, for those who wonder. It was better than 24 teeth removal, that's for sure, but it isn't FUN. Implants HURT. That said, my adorable oral surgeon is going to be doing about 8K more work for free, as he also wants to add another implant elsewhere so things will be symetrical (which is best for dentures) and will have to remove the other implants that have failed. THIS TIME I will have to do BOTH my upper and lower jaw at the same time and the appointment will be 3 HOURS long, probably. :( I hate being awake for it but it's amazing what you can do if you have to.

EVEN hearing the news of all this, though I was happy/sad/indebted, I did NOT stop for cigarettes!! I thought about it... I just vaped! Really, I think my teeth were so bad due to having braces for 6 years, (every new country was a new orthodontist, and they all had to "start over" so they said.) To be fair, I'm sure smoking didn't HELP but mainly it was a prescription med I have to take. So. EMOTIONAL TURMOIL DISMAY and I did not SMOKE! YAYAYAYA! That's like, my biggest trigger. It helped that my mouth is so much healthier and obviously, I need to keep it that way for my upcoming torture/newfound ability to chew steak.

Here's the question. My oral surgeon said it was okay to smoke with my dentures in, to protect everything, which I didn't do much of, mainly due to being in bed, mostly. Though, my problem is with the implants it's really hard to keep those dentures in, and it's best to do nothing, honestly, that causes suction in your mouth? When I had 24 extractions on ADVIL alone, my engineer husband rigged me up a smoking *drill*-- he put some attachment on it so that the drill spinning shot cigarette smoke into my nose, and down my throat, and that turned out rather well. Being on ADVIL ONLY makes it really hard to, ah, deal with the pain, but I was not about to get dry sockets, either.

Now, I can use my e-cig with my nose by inhaling straight down my throat, then out my nose. I practiced, going home. It's really rather easy.... Since one of the main things that is bad is suction, that's why I'm thinking that method? I can avoid getting vape in my mouth completely, more or less. Any risks anyone can think of doing that in the short term? I can't think of any, but I thought I'd ask..... Some more experienced folks on here? I can certainly check with my oral surgeon, he'll probably just tell me to put my dentures in but I think one of those implants may have failed due to the dentures rubbing on it, so I'm hoping to avoid that outcome again?

Thanks to ANYONE who a) read or b) can offer up some speculation? I mean if I can blow vape out my nose, I can't imagine it will be harmful, I'm just so incredibly sick of oral surgeries while awake and with no pain meds afterwards, this really has to be the last time for me (had two surgeries in 6 months, sigh). I was SO excited about getting my implants hooked up to my dentures (they have to sit in your jaw for 4 months to ensure they're bonded, sigh)...

Thanks all :) But, the main takeaway is I know I am now facing an HOURS long appointment with both my UPPER and my LOWER jaw being worked on. While I am insanely grateful, I am not excited, if you get my drift. No tobacco happened, though.

Let's call this vapemiracle #2, and the free oral surgery isn't a bad outcome, either. :) I guess.

Well, if you're going to vape through your nose, I would go with a Delrin or resin tip. Metal is probably not the best of ideas.

Given I used a Nicotrol nasal spray, which turned out to be the only form of NRT that ever worked for me, I guess it's possible. I do know with the nasal spray thing, which was essentially unflavored nic, it had a very peppery feel and with time, my sinuses got really annoyed at me, so that was another fail.

The only problem I would see would be coordinating the fire button and sniff, but if you could get it down, why not? It's gotta be safer than using a drill to get cigarette smoke into your nose.

I don't think through the nose will harm anything. Altho, this would be the time to sub ohm(temp) as using such a mtl with a nautilus you have to 'suck' to get anything out of it. With subohm you can just hit the button and place the driptip in front of your mouth and breathe in. Way easier for your situation I would think. Use it only for while you heal....its a thought anyway....

Good luck.

Wow! Oh, wow! You have beem through a lot! I had six teeth pulled to do my implants. I cannot imagine what you went through. It is such a shock to the body. Congrats on not smoking, though.
Sugarnspice had some good advice. i do not drip, but maybe someone here could send you a set-up? Anyone, out there?
As for the pain, on youtube there are several these solfeggio tones that may help, look at this one and then you can find others on there.

Good luck.

Thanks for the responses, those are good ideas.... I don't use the metal tip on the Nautilus so that won't be an issue, and I think this may be a time though, that I'll keep my sub-ohm tank on hand in case I have any issues, I was worried about flavorings irritating my nose, but that seems unlikely since I can exhale through my nose, no issues.... I'll definitely check out that video and use it if it helps. Thanks for the replies, they all sound reasonable to me.... Anna

If I may offer up a suggestion... if you don't get enough nicotine at this early stage in your switch you may be more likely to relapse.. now granted you can't smoke through this either, but I want to make sure you don't relapse back into smoking.

What I might suggest, is to possibly bump up your nicotine level a tiny bit after surgery, and getting either an otc nicotine replacement such as the patch, or a prescription such as the nicotine inhaler, just to have on hand in case this nose inhaling either begins to irritate your nostrils over time, or in case your unable to get enough nicotine this way..

It might be a waste of money, but it's always better safe than sorry.

That is an excellent idea, Opinionated, thank you! I can get my nic as high as 36 m.g. via mixing flavors I have now, so I'll definitely keep that in mind since, whether smoking OR vaping, I'm going to be using whatever device much less, since a lot of the time I'll be passed out (I know this from experience). I can't chew nic gum, lozenges are great (my favorite of the traditional nic delivery devices, but they cause suction) but I can get the patch, keep it on as needed, and vape only while necessary. I have a very sincere lack of belief that my insurance will pay for the nic inhaler but my PCP might have some samples laying around. Everytime I think they won't have something, they do...

I don't think it's a waste of money at all compared to picking up a cigarette again, but you are more than correct, it's early in my quit and I KNOW what insane pain does to my logical reasoning abilities. I think I'm going to tell husband to get the damn cigarette machine and remaining tobacco out of the house, too, it's time anyway and I certainly don't need temptations in the house bothering me.... Even if he hides it in one of the sheds, my ability to go poking around out there will be nil, and I certainly won't be driving.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions, I had NO idea I'd get so many good ideas! You guys are all fantastic!
