I have been using a DIY mod that uses a TI04050c booster and a (single) AW 14500 battery.
(Runs at 5v-no load)
I use Boge LR 510 cartos.
I've been using this set-up for 4 months.
I have 7 different AW 14500 batteries that I use in strict rotation. 2 are ~6 months old, 2 are 3 months old, 3 are 1 month old.

I used to get between 5 and 7 hours on a charge (depending in vaping level) with any of my batts.

Suddenly, ALL my batts (new or old) only last about 3 hours.
I am using an UltraFire charger- and batts are coming off the charger at 4.1 - 4.2 volts.

Any clues / suggestions would be appreciated...!

Short life of batteries - how do you define it? If voltage on batteries really drops, does not seem to me that this is a bad contacts problem... I would suspect the board (if the power supply was dropped, the inductor could be damaged) or shorted atomizer or connector. Otherwise - if you define batteries exaust only by own sense during vaping, poor contacts can be the reason.

SO.... I changed to another Boge LR carto- and I am back to the 5-7 hour range.

Unfortunately I tossed the 2 cartos that I had the problem with. Based on the comments above I believe I had 2 bad cartos- with defectively high resistance. The chance that I had 2, and then used them back to back is kind of strange.

I always measure my cartos/attys. I find variances in a box of 5 and mark the packaging with the values.
Perhaps the actual resistance was lower than the said value.

Ive got caps on mine, 16v 100uf. I have seen added resistance in a coil too, before the coil actually breaks. Unfortunately this process of breaking can take a really long time. It works, but isn't quite right, check everything else and finally when unwinding the coil it snaps apart. This is with 32G Kanthal, and is probably even more frequent on a thinner gauge wire.

Slimest, with the short battery life, it is that a freshly charged battery works, but then it drops in performance as the battery voltage drops, I suppose as the 'load' increases.
