Totally new to the TC realm i would appreciate some suggestions about a coil build for my kayfun Lite that I am planning to use on a istick 40W TC. I made a 3mm 0.15ohm coil out of 28 Nickel200 wire, I just dont know if I should keep this at that range or if I can try other resistances or lower than 3mm diameter. Thanks for your help!

Petra, I made the coil you suggested and it works great! I didn't like much the first one I build at 3mm inner diameter, like this one at 2mm much better.

Also, I have a question if you are so kind...when I hit the fire button on my istick 40 and get the screen message "Temperature Protection", does it mean something is wrong or just that it is working the way it should?

Thank you very much!

It is happening almost instantly when firing; I've tried from 350 to 450 degrees and it is the same, maybe it takes a bit longer at higher temperatures. Coil is nickel200 28 gauge, 8 wraps, 2mm...it reads 0.17 ohm, it is wicked with japanese cotton, same way I wick non TC coils...I am clueless now, any other suggestions?

Spaced coil? Screws nice and tight? 510 making good clean connection? And I might suggest moving up to a 2.5mm ID or larger coil just to get more wick in there, provided it doesn't overly restrict your airflow in the process.

I made this one at 2mm since the previous one I made was 3mm and it had the same issue; yes, screws are tight and 510 looks good too, I made one on a kayfun Lite and the other on a dripper. They work but i continue getting that "Temperature Protection" message almost instantly after firing the Istick...

if when the message appears, you feel your vaping weak, then just set the temperature higher.
Many times it appears and dissapears, meaning that the coil reaches the temperature, the power is getting lower and then the message disappears and the power increases.
Of course it has to do with coil/510 cooperation and poor wiring. since you are an experienced vaper, the latter doesn't seem to be the problem.
Keep the atty locked everytime, so you can unscrew and screw it again. This helps many times.
Otherwise, the higher temperature solves almost anything.
Don't be afraid that you vape unhealthy is you must occasionally set the temperature at 500oF
If you don't feel like steaming instead of vaping, than it's probably bad reading from the chip.
It's not a dna anyway...
Another trick is to vape with another device for 10 minutes and then come back. This is the computer logic and it worked many times for my vaping hardware too.

Personally, I'd watch some detailed iStick TC40 reviews, like most mods there are limits to its output power and operation. I like to use builds in the 0.15 to 0.3 range. The 'temp protect' messages are normal (even seemingly instantly). Just adjust temp for flavor/output/warmth of vape. When changing coils look for the "new coil?" message on screen and follow the directions.

IMHO: a great little mod, easily fits in almost any pocket. Total cost with tank < $50 so not a great big deal if lost, stolen or breaks. Mine keeps me company most days to/from work.

Thanks to all of you that responded, I was a bit worried about that "Temp Protection" message but now I see it is ok, the way i am receiving it.
Petra, your review about the Istick 40 is very good, thanks for it too!

Now I want to experiment with other coil resistances on my kayfun and my drippers; I will do this until I receive the Eleaf GS tank and TC heads from Fastech. It seems to be a great companion to the Istick 40...lets hope it is!

Thanks. Your opinion is very welcome and most appreciated! :)
I don't like to be a bad news messenger, but a moderator from the greek vape forum, who tries almost every non RBA atty, posted there that the Ni200 heads of GS have issues with any mod. I 've also read for a similar problem here at the ecf. If you aren't the lucky one to pick the perfect heads, don't panic. Blame them, not the mod. :(

    1. short life span
    2. weak taste
    3. too hot vapor in normal temperatures. But when you set the temperature at a lower point, the vaping gets very weak.
    4. Unstable vaping. You may vape satisfactory in e.g. 500oF for a while and then get too hot vapor at the same temperature.
I also heard similar issued with other Ni non RBA heads, but heard nothing about the ego one heads. No negative comments, neither positive.

It may be related to the liquid quality, or ratio of it. i will try with a high PG ratio and see what happens, as soon as I receive mine...anyway i am not into cloud chasing, but to me what is important is a good throat hit and a nice flavor. However, if after experimenting I don't like the pre made heads, I will simply continue using the ones I build. I just made another one, this time for a kayfun 3.1, 6 wraps, 2mm, 0.11ohm...it worked like a charm!

Petra (or any other that could help)...is there any TC mod that uses a couple of 18650 and that you can recommend? Thanks!

Τhe only double battery mod I ever had is a smok xcube II, which I now test and cannot recommend since I've none other double battery to compare to.
I can only say that's it's a decent mod with many personalisation tools. Its negative is that you have to set the temperature even 20% higher, in order to have the same result.
And of course it's huge!!! A cloud chasing mod, like all of its category (double battery, 80+W)

Just came across this thread...I can vouch for the above...I bought the GS tank and absolutely love it...after a week all the above happened...I am devastated...it's hard to find tanks/attys for mouth to lung vapers...and I was loving this one...not sure what to do with it now...bought it specifically to use for a new TC mod..oh well...not sure if the vendor would help or not...not sure what to tell them is wrong actually...

For a dual 18650 I use a IPV4S and have a Boxer 350J on order. I rarely go over 20W/20J and the IPV4S is the only mod that I currently have that will last me an entire weekend day.

Ni and Ti modes, its been very reliable. It is much much bigger than a TC40. ;)

(my default 'goto' RTA on my TC mods is a Lemo2. If you want to blow large clouds get a TSV4 and the single or dual RBA deck for it. Mine is currently mounted on my TC40 - needless to say it is very top heavy):w00t:
