Hey everyone!

So my dad has been a smoker for my whole life (over 28 years), we have been on him to quit but he keeps coming back to it. I recently sent him an email with a good amount of into about ecigs to him and he was like fine ill try it. I was stoked! So now its on me to find him the right one to start out. I dont want to get him anything to complex and too much work bc if he gets irritated he wont use it. Hes not too tech savy but picks up things pretty fast. My friend had suggested the 510 (not the T, bc it leaks more) but i cant find it any where. The sites i have been suggested are all sold out. Someone also suggested the Katana Kit from vape dojo (but they are sold out)

1) Is the 510 the right choice? I know its been around a while, is there something better that replaced it?
2) Where should i order from?
3) if there is an alternate that you sould suggest please do.

Im still learning about this (i dont smoke so its hard for me to really understand the feel of smoke and what not)

My friend suggested (Custom E-Liquids : Heathers Heavenly Vapes, Top Quality Custom E-Liquids) for his juices so he wants to get camamel cappiccino and Java Smooth

(any other places known for those flavors i should order from?)

Thanks for the help! I really want my dad to have a better option!

Hi and welcome to ECF. It's a good thing you're doing.
Is the 510 the right choice? I know its been around a while, is there something better that replaced it?
Many have started with the 510 but eventually upgrade because of the battery life. How much does he smoke each day and what brand?

Where should i order from?
You're safer ordering from ECF listed/ verified vendors. They must abide by a code of Biz ethics to stay listed here.

Heather's Heavenly Vapes is ECF listed and has a HUGE and loyal following.

Thanks for the help! I really want my dad to have a better option!
As do we

Hi, and welcome! Your dad is very lucky to have such a thoughtful son.

The 510 is not the best option: vapor and flavor not all that good, it gets hot quicky so you cant chain vape, etc.

If you dont think your dad would mind holding something that looks and feel different than a cigarette, try the KGO or eGo C Twist battery, with a carto tank on top or a Vivi Nova. Carto tank gives slightly better performance initially, but cleaning/ refilling is a pain, and the carto inside the tank needs to be replaced every so often. The Nova is extremely easy to clean/ refill, but you have to tilt your device somewhere along the line while vaping. Depending on whether you want to convince your dad with terrific performance initially, or you think he is going to evaluate the experience over a weeks time or so, you can choose your option there.

Heather Heavenly Vapes has extremely good flavors. For a smoker, i suggest Dark Horse and Heavenly Tobacco, then to go a different path try Legend, Shadow and Serendipity. Those are all tobacco flavors; for other flavors i suggest richer flavors like coffee or vanilla (Blade on HHV is a good vanilla flavor)

Best of luck to you and your father.

Edit: for hardware like batteries and novas and stuff, i suggest DiscountVapers and VaporAlley.

IMO this is still the best place to start. If he finds that vaping is a go, then he can move up to bigger and better things.
ElectronicStix.Com · Original Joye eGo Starter Kit with 510 Atomizers (650 mAh Kit)
Toss the little cartriges, but save the atomizers for later, they are fun to play with.
Also you will want a box of these to use instead of the atomizers & cartridges.
    ElectronicStix.Com · Boge 510 Blank Cartomizer Low Resistance 2.0 oHM 5 Pack
    and one of these

My dad is a pack every 2-3 days, so hes not a heavy smoker (my friend suggested to start with 16mg at 70/30 pg/vg) so i was thinking of getting him the dark horse and the 2 he wanted.

My dad will get frustrated easily and will just throw it in the drawer to never be seen again if its trouble. Id really like to have something that can be easily fillable, cleanable, not much maintence (except for when i come home and do it for him once a month). As for battery life, hes not a huge smoker and we can always buy back up batteries.

Im not trying to break the bank but i dont want a POS either, so something within a reasonable amount of money (under 75-100? total) the lesser the better though..

All this is really new to me, so @Kanj.nguyen, what you said flew over my head. Im doing a bit of research to find out more.. There is a crazy amount of info!

Any other suggestions you guys can give on what to look up would be greatly appreciated. From what i read, the 510 (and from what you guys have said) the 510 may be a good place to start to see if he even will stick with this. I just have to make sure i get an extra battery (bad batt life reviews)

ANy one know anything about the Katana kit? Any good? ?

You can't go wrong with SmokelessImage.com. It's KR808 threaded stuff which hits pretty well for beginners. They have good tasting prefilleds to get him going so it won't have to worry about filling or refilling until you visit and teach him. Sample packs will let him find a good flavor, especially if you order different nic strengths. They have a good ecig for people that want a simple transition from cigarettes to ecigs.

    Yes 16 sounds right.

The problem with PVs is not so much the PV itself but the delivery systems that hold and vaporize the juice.

Should be able to get him a good stater kit for under $75.00.

Yes people get frustrated with the constant charging.

It's large and quite advanced. Here's a review by highly regarded Scott

I spoke above about the different delivery systems...
Different delivery systems:- note bolded Atty, Carto, etc is the abbreviated form
Atomizer/ Atty- an element on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. There are some diehard Atty users because it’s the best vape possible but very time consuming.

Cartridge/ Cart- a container with sponge (filled with juice) that is used with the Atty- juice drips on to Atty from filled cart and is vaporized- older outdated first “tank” system and prone to leaks unless the user is willing to buy extra seals and “fiddle” with them.

Cartomizer/ Carto- metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere form 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. My Cartos last 1-2 weeks. Best Cartomizer I’ve found is the Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil. Boge 2.0 ohm cartos will give a cooler vape. Always use single coil cartos with 3.3- 3.7 PVs for the best vape.

Carto+Tank- a Carto with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates Carto by way of hole in Carto. My Cartos with a tank last, before tight draw occurs: light juices- 80-90 ml. dark juices- 50-60 ml.

Clearomizer/ Clearo- (includes the Stardust and the Vivi Nova Tank)- a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply ($2.00) and easily (10 secs) replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head. My Vivi Nova heads are lasting about 4 weeks BUT I wash and dry burn the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw.

When I first began vaping I used Boge 2.0 ohm single coil cartos (1 ml). After 1 month I switched to Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil cartos (1.8 ml). Next I used a carto+and tank (3ml) setup. When the cracking and wicking issues were resolved I got into Stardusts (1.6 ml). I now use the Mini Vivi Nova (2.0 ml) rebuildables as I feel they give a better draw and are far superior in quality. It is VERY important to match the correct ohms delivery device to the PV we are using otherwise, dry hits or a weak vape will occur.

I just quit smoking from a pack a day, i tried out 24mg ejuice and was too strong, taste like marble red, 18mg taste like marble light so i went for it. Here is the thing, many e-juice taste different at different votage. so i would suggest get him a VV mod so he can get the hit he want.
I got a Provape Provari Mini, easy to carry i can adjust votage any time i want. I'm very glad i go straght to Provari Mini. when i'm at work...I keep it about 3.4 volt with 2.5ohm coil, when i'm at the bar drinking, i kick up to 4.0 volt and damn that feels good.
and now i just changed to different e-juice and it taste better when higher votage than my regular set.

there are chinese knock off or some others try to be. it depends on you. I heard many people try many different mods and all end up with provari. so i just went with provari right the way instead of wasting money trying something not up to par.

From a recent cig quiter. hope it helps

Youre right, its a little overwhelming with all this info flooding your head. Here are specific links to the things i think you should get your dad:

    Big battery, lasts 10 hours
    JoyeTech eGo 650 mAh Battery

    Charger for said battery
eGo USB 450 mAh Charger Cable

Some of these: (get at least 2 packs)
    SmokTech 510 Single Coil Cartomizer - Empty (5pk) - MyFreedomSmokes.com

The cartos your dad can just use for a day or two then toss. For something more sustainable get a Vivi Nova:
Vision Vivi Nova Tank System - Plastic Tube

Thatsbreally all you need, plus juices as your dad likes. Throw in an extra 650mAh battery if he doesnt want to wait between charges:
Joyetech Joye eGo-C Twist Variable Voltage 650mAh Battery

Everything should be around $80 total, including shipping.

Also, for nicotine strength, your dad is exactly how i was as a smoker, 1 pack in 3 days. I find that 12mg hits best, 16 may be a tad strong. Im actually down to 6mg during the day and 0 at night now.

okay so i think the 510 or Ego C (or t?) may be a good choice to start with... Any one know of a good place to order it? Maybe even have a bigger battery option? My friend said to go to ecigexpress.com but they are out of the 510 starter kit..

Ill order the 510 starter kit (from where ever), the katana (for myself, i like hookah, when they come back in stock unless someone knows where to get it now) and a few juices.. (black horse, caramel cap, java smooth, pear and peach) The latter 2 are for me with no tabacco.

From what i have read and been told, the 510 is older but is a classic and at this point is on the cheapter side of things which is good since i dont want to waste money. I did however see a mini version of it (thoughts?)

@Kanj.nguyen- thanks! I really would like to order everthing as a kit or just from one place.. Ill take a look and see if i can order it from one place though, so thanks!

    As ocelot mentioned- http://www.free-cigs.com/Starter-Kits_c_11.html?AffId=1

has the cheapest 510's they also have the mini!

Whats the diff between the X, M, and the A

These are the types of PV available
    Mini Ecig
    battery life a concern

eGo Class- comes in 650 and 1100 mah
JoyTech eGo fires @ 3.4 volts
    Kgo fires @ 3.7 volts
    SmokTech fires @ 3.7 volts
As for battery life...100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping before recharge is needed so a 650 would last approx 6 hrs.

Then there are the mini variable volt PVs- Spinner, Twist and Kgo VV.

    And after that the Mods.

No problem. I tried to keep it in one place but many places are sold out of Novas. Personally i dont go for kits, usually they come with things i never use and yet get overcharged for them.

My links are from 2 places, not that bad :)

Yeah i was looking at that...

This may be a stupid question, but the pictures dont really make sense.. in the order or putting it together, (the order in which they get connected to each other..

Vision Vivi Nova Tank System (with drip tip) - $12
    SmokTech 510 Single Coil Cartomizer - $6
JoyeTech eGo Upgrade 1000 mAh Battery - $22

    Then
    Charger- - $7
    extra battery $12

I'm looking at the product pages and it looks like:

the X has a higher mAh battery, but it appears to only comes in automatic

the M is a manual battery

the A is an automatic battery

the T comes with a cartridge/atomizer system (rather than cartomizers like the others), but I can't figure out if it's a manual or auto battery

Oh no no, its EITHER cartomizer OR the Novas :D. They are both juice container combined with heating element, so plug either one onto a battery and you are good to go.
