I need a good rda to start on since I've never dripped before. I know how to build sub-ohms(experience with a Kanger subtank mini and Delta II) I'm just looking for something to sit around to house and tinker with that won't hurt the wallet too much. Anyone have any ideas for less thank $30?

What are you looking for out of an atty? For $30, the STRO v1 & STRO Mini are perfect at $29.99. The STRO v1 looks like a competition Kennedy & Royal Hunter's love child (comp. Kennedy deck, AFC & top cap similar to Royal Hunter), while the STRO mini has the dual post design similar to the velocity, while being around the size of a REMatty. The size is in between something like the doge v2 & the derringer. The v1 is pretty big because of the huge juice well.
I'm almost positive that both have the honeycomb piece in the drip tip for anti-spitback as well. For $29.99, this looks like a much more promising authentic than something like a mutation x, troll, or freakshow. I have the mutation x v3 & v4 and honestly, if I had found the STRO mini in particular before the mutation x v4 I would have gotten that instead.

Highly, highly recommend the mutation x v4. You can check out vapor dna website and they have them for 29. And if you Google a coupon I found one for 10 off of 35! So I went ahead and grabbed me some cotton and after that, the coupon, rda, and shipping and came out to right at 30. I ordered it Friday night and it got here on Monday. So it was really fast. I ordered the project sub ohm version since I like the visuals better than the regular. Everything else is the same, and it's no way a clone.
Massive airflow, and has bottom airflow for flavor. You really have to watch so you don't over drip, or it'll leak a little out of the bottom airflow, but I've never had one and it's never leaked on me. A few drops on the cotton, a few in the well (I only use a single coil, so I use the other side of the well for extra juice) and I can easily get about 10-15 pulls without a dry hit. I close off everything but the bottom because the flavor is amazing. But if you open up all the airflow for the appropriate coils, it'll definitely produce massive amounts of vapor.

The Velocity RDA clone is priced at around $20. The original is Rip Trippers new favorite. Way easy to build on with air flow options to suit any flavor or cloud chaser. Good luck
Those will both give you huge clouds. The STRO v1 especially because of the bottom & side airflow. And a note on the mutation x v4, I have one, and the clouds I get are rather whispy compared to my doge v2. I got my mutation x v4 as soon as I saw it was out, as I loved my v3, but I was unimpressed by the changes to the v4.
The STRO v1 has practically the same base as a Competition Kennedy ...Competition meaning to be used in things like..cloud competitions haha. Add that with the side airflow provided and you've got yourself one cloud chucking atty. & if you ever want to drop the money on a comp. Kennedy set up with something like a demon cap, you'd know how to build properly on it before you even bought it. Just my .02
