Smokers are not only physically addicted to nicotine, but also addicted to smoking BEHAVIOR. The hand-to-mouth behavior as well as the desire to "inhale/exhale" behavior.
vaping allowed me to replicate both the physical and behavior addiction of smoking in a "safer", non-combustion, smoke-free format. Probably why the nicotine patch, gum, lozenges, prescription drugs, and hypnosis failed in my previous attempts to quit smoking because they didn't address the behavioral components of smoking.
vaping is considered "harm reduction". It's the smoke and hundreds of other chemicals found in cigarettes that are most harmful. Is vaping completely safe? Probably not, but its hundreds of times less harmful than smoking.
You can purchase e-liquid for e-cigarettes that has no nicotine, but I personally would not recommend that to a smoker looking to quit smoking. Your first priority should be to first quit smoking using a vaping device that has nicotine. Once you are confident that you have successfully quit smoking, you can gradually drop your nicotine concentration down to zero, and then actually quit vaping if that is your ultimate goal.
Your chances of being able to quit smoking without some form of nicotine replacement would be rather slim.
