Bandar Seri Begawan - Manipulative tactics that entice smokers to continue puffing with the aid of e-cigarettes and other new hi-tech tools were blasted yesterday by religious authorities claiming it is wrong to sell such products that violate Section (6) of the tobacco Order 2005, that states the prohibition of fake tobacco products.

Those who bring, sell or offer to sell items that resembles tobacco products could be fined $10,000.

They claimed that such products are publicised as better in terms of health and the public is urged to be cautious against such cunning tactics.

"Cigarette firms and industries striving to continue their business are ensuring that their business is not in jeopardy.

"They are getting cleverer in attracting smokers to continue their habit," the Imams said in their Friday sermon yesterday.

Well, you just know where such sound bites are coming from.

And that is somehow different to manipulative tactics to massage the worldwide price of oil? I guess that some things are more manipulative than others, depending on who is doing the manipulating ...
Not that I would care what dictatorships think of my hobby anyway? Like I would go somewhere where it is illegal to hold hands with my other half, whilst they think they can make calls on the morality of any pie that they don't have a financial hand in?

Damn!
When are we going to catch a break!
Let's all gather together at Central Park NY with all of our gear and do the world a favor by self-immolating.
I need to hit something....I'm righteously ......-off now....here kitty kitty...

Leave the poor kitty alone. She didn't do anything to you.

Notice how they think the tobacco companies are behind PV's. Maybe we should tell them it's not the tobacco companies, it's China! Wonder what they'd say then?
Fake tobacco products? Liquid nicotine has got to be the purest of tobacco products, it's like a kosher cigarette! Another thing, I'd like to know what they're smoking in them hukahs?!

Oh, no! I was only kidding. Kitty scratches!
I ended up just stomping around the room saying bad words like "Oh, shoot!" and "Darn it!" until I felt better. :)

Time to celebrate,,,, to the catnip patch with haste.

I guess i've been out of the loop for the Imams commands. I thought hooka's were a staple for muslim's.

It's this article that got me questioning the viability of bringing e-cigs into Brunei. I'm still unsure if it is allowed and just frowned upon or I will actually get charged for it!

Hi bruneibyer, great to see an international post. As the OP of this thread, I’m very sorry that I know nothing about your national laws. Among countries that have actively banned e-cigs, most seem to have banned marketing and sale. It often seems as if an individual consumer could feel relatively safe - as long as an individual order does not reflect commercial intent (by quantity). Wish you all the best and hope that you’ll report back when you gathered profound knowledge from a more local, probably much better informed community.

THe thing that pisses me off is that anyone even partially informed about this issue KNOWS FULL WELL that these things aren't coming from tobacco companies.

They say that to mislead the unwary smokers and anti-smokers, and to try to prevent PVs from taking market share from tobacco companies or (the biggest culprit) big pharmaceuticals.

The claims being made don't even stand up to minor scrutiny. Don't even stand up to very much thinking about.

But so much of the world's population can be counted on not to think or scrutinize...

The reality is that if each and every e-cig had a Johnson and Johnson label on the side; they would be hailed as a godsend and revolutionary. There would be no ban, and the health department would be pushing use to all smokers.

VaporJay, that is about as perfect a statement as can be made. I was watching TV this morning and there was an ad for some drug I hadn't seen advertised before (can't recall what it was but I'm sure it will be on often; they always are since, apparently, doctors aren't qualified to determine what their patients should be taking). They must have stated under certain conditions, at least two or three times, using the drug could lead to death.

Could you visualize the ad that they'd have for e cigs? The warning comments would be limited to potential allergic reaction to PG, VG or potentially flavoring with an adjustment to any mentioned being an easy fix. Considering they have been marketed for at least 5 years globally with millions using them, death warnings (at least in the short term) would be non-existent.

Religious leaders accusing others of manipulative tactics... the irony... it hurts...

You can tell how poorly informed they are simply by the fact they claim e-cigs are a plot from cigarette companies. It is a shame people from the anti-smoking bandwagon would rather demonize a new product (that so far has a monumentally greater success rate with getting people off analogs than any FDA-approved crap) than do a modicum of research to see how bad it really is.

I know, I know... beating on a dead horse.

I guess the best recourse we all have right now is to just get the word out and get as many smokers into e-cigs as we can. That way, e-cig companies will one day be able to afford their own lobbyists. That seems to be the only way of getting support for anything in this country. :p
