Thank you Classy,
I'm tickled to be wrong.
However, I can't seem to locate said app.

Would you be so kind as to provide a link to the ECF app?

Cheers
I

I just keep a New Posts on my desktop for a quick link, woks well for m on android phone and computer.
On my laptop, I land in REOVILLE. I click "new posts" from there.

Since quitting my job and moving to Spain, I'm hard pressed to use my phone for more than "phone/text/alarms".
I don't believe that my contributions can't wait until I'm on my computer.
Nothing is "Mission Critical" and I don't need to pretend I'm important, via notifications and alerts, otherwise.

Cheers

Well, it is summer. More things to do in the summer that don't involve being on a computer.

I've been here since 2012. I've seen this place both busy and slow. It happens in cycles. I do believe that social media groups other than forums or message boards are more popular with younger crowds. I think a lot of us old-timers lose patience with the cloud chasing crowd, so they don't feel as welcome here.

My guess is when state taxes begin to increase the price of e-liquid and vape gear, when the FDA begins to further regulate our industry with more restrictions, and sales of gear made overseas gets stopped by US Customs, we will see a new influx of readers who want to learn how to build their own coils or mix their own liquids and this place will again be the best resource for that information.

Not that I do it often, but whenever I visit a vape shop for the first time, there are three things that I do.

  1. I find out what 1860 batteries that they sell. If they sell Lg, Samsung, or Sony batteries, they get a pass. If they are selling Imren, MXJO, or Efest batteries, they get a :nah:.
  2. I ask whoever is in charge if they have heard of Battery Mooch. If not, they get another :nah:.
  3. I ask if they ever heard of the E-Cigarette Forum. If not, another :nah:.
IMHO, ECF is the greatest resource of vaping information in the world. If the retail market doesn't recognize this place as a great source of information then IMHO the industry will be doomed to failure.

Personally, after 8+years here, the industry finally offered devices that accommodate my need. Way back in 2011, I had to build my own regulated squonkers (Madvapes VV or DNA12, anybody?). Rebuildables came in. My entire journey was with frugal maintenance of my nicotine addiction. I built my first mod by the time I was 6mos in with enormous help from ECF.

Now, though, the site is jammed with manufacturers and vendors. It's a rare occurrence to help a newbie who is actually vested in their own improvement. Mostly, I see a bunch of millennial "sup, bruh, cloud, blah blah" posts or threads saturated by long-timers engaged in banter or multitudes of vendor "hey look what we wanna sell" posts.

I think finding my personal sweet spot compounded my decreasing contribution, as well. I still scroll through posts regularly, but I dont feel compelled to contribute as much unless there is a newbie needing guidance, and nobody has covered their needs yet.

YMMV :toast:

Why has this forum become dead?
Been thinking the same.
I agree with just about all the replies. But here's a couple of reasons I believe top the list. Keep in mind, I'm only talking about the decline over the last couple/few years, as I haven't been vaping as long as many here, who've been here just about since vaping started. I did vape with a cigalike early on in 2010, and saw product changes because my son was an active vaper through those years, though.
  • Pods. Maturing market and technology. People aren't sharing how to drill out their Juul to maximize af & flavor. Nobody needs to find replacement o-rings for their Nord. So much of the product is now non-compatible, disposable. Nobody is really modding anything. Basement innovation has slowed to an imperceptible crawl.
  • Abandoned forum. I agree with this one. If I want to participate, I have to look. I don't even get notifications to threads I watch and participate in. The past few months, more frequently, I find threads I was active in and forgot about have many pages of activity, and I had no idea. And looking isn't easy - not a very robust search tool.
  • No classies. I would've loved to participate in that. And @classwife ,I don't doubt you only found a few pending requests. But I'm sure others, like me, never put in a request, knowing it's dead. I'm not sure why ecf feels it needs to even verify anyone - just open it up for caveat vendor/emptor. That alone would most certainly increase participation on the site. I'm thinking eBay & Craigslist get more eyes on them than most other websites out there, so it couldn't hurt to draw in some people interested in buying & selling. And it'd be a service to those of us already here.
It is a shame. This forum helped me so much. The hours I went through hundreds of pages of tobacco flavorings alone are probably a big factor in ensuring I could stay away from smokes. I hope the forum stays around, if for no other reason than to help others avoid smoking, and discussing the latest greatest products.

I still enjoy discussing ecigs and other things on ECF. I try to log in every day. Back in 2010 when I started vaping I was out surfing for more info on a new hobby that took away my tobacco cigs. ECF did a great job fulfilling that need. Now, it's more about keeping up with tech and conversing with friends as well as helping new vapers make the most of a product that can easily replace smoke with vapor and enhance their health.

My Paypal contribution to ECF is on a repeat yearly basis and I have no plans to stop that as long as ECF is a viable source for touting the benefits of vaping over smoking.

We had HUGE ripoff/gouging problems between sellers and buyers...the Verification System was created by Members that wanted to continue having a Classified section.
...fyi...j0ker had other forums contact him for help setting theirs up in a similar fashion...
j0ker hasn't been able to be around in forever...also his system permissions had been cut off.

I would like to remove the Verification process and give it a shot to see how people behave these days...maybe something like being a Member for 60 days and 100 (non spammed) posts to have access.
I think most have finally got the idea that ripping someone off and price gouging is a no-no.
Our Classifieds are also a strict Not for Profit - and I thoroughly approve of that - it's to get rid of things you no longer want and give someone else an opportunity to try it that perhaps couldn't afford the retail price.
But...that all takes the Big Cheese to approve and someone to modify the system to set it up.

And - let's not hijack this to a Classified Forum discussion.
Just know that it's something that I would go for :)

Seems like there is a post like this every 6 months, forums have taken a hit due to social media, but forums provide better info as grouped into categories.

I have seen ECF change over the years, does seem the higher ups are not interested in the running of the forums anymore, the only active staff member I see is @classwife , how she keeps up staffing this huge forum by herself is beyond me, being a mod is a thankless job.

I wish they would do something about the Classified section, understand they wanted to protect members, but now that system is no longer working, should do something like @classwife said and make it can go in the forums once been a member for so long and so many posts, most who are going to try rip people off, isn't go to all that work, they will just go somewhere else, and we do have a ranking system, so if have a bad apple, they will be labeled as such.

But unless Admins/Owners start caring again, nothing will change, and is sad to see ECF going down, but remember, members make a forum what it is, without the members, a forum is nothing.

Even my favorite STD forum has become a ghost town now.
    What?

I was going to wait a while longer before I posted again, but now is as good of time as any. I am truly surprised by the comments I am reading. If I posted this a couple of years ago, this surely would have sank like a brick. I want to thank everyone for making me feel like I'm not alone here. One of the reasons I have not upped my membership is because, these days, I get the impression ecf is generating enough revenue without my help (Albeit, I probably will sometime here in the future so I can get that extra space back for my inbox).

I thought that maybe it was an ebb and flow situation; "It's Spring Break" or something like that. But, I've noticed that has gone on for quite a while now.

absolutely disagree, they're the entire collection of human knowledge on a given subject, without the interference of a library.
Absolutely. Not dying, just in rehab. New app based solutions, especially those based on forums, are thriving. A GREAT example, obviously, is phone forums, such as XDA

I think you might be really surprised...
The Registered Suppliers...they only pay around $50 a year.
The Suppliers that have their own Forums...that only costs about $300 a year.
Pretty cheap way to get your stuff out there for someone with an e-cigarette product to sell :)

I did not say forums weren't useful but the next generation doesn't have much interest in forum style platforms. Until forums in general get off their collective butts and change to appeal the the next generation they will continue to see reduced traffic imo. Problem with modernizing is they will also see a drop in current members contributions as ECF learned.

There are two vendors that I chat with regularly and they won't pay the $300 due to ECF restrictions. One has been told he can't even post his personal gear had before opening a shop. Real shame to because he has a wealth of knowledge he's always happy to share. Neither will renew here when it's time to reup. Some vendors are passionate vaper's and should be able to post same as the rest of us in the common threads about their passion.

Again, it really depends on proper integration. XDA, as I previously brought up, is a forum dedicated to Android hacking. Their web based forum is, superficially, identical to ECF. They, obviously, built their own app ground up. I'm not suggesting that needs to be done here, but the model they use is designed by, and for, phone phreaks. It's worth taking a look at to see how it can, and IMHO, should be done.

First you have to overcome the forum owners seemingly apathy to change outside of what they think are good changes.
