I just got my ELA and Strata yesterday so threw together a quick entry. Nothing special here but used my go to setup on all of my drippers and reos to get a baseline. 1.3ohm single coil of torched 30awg Kanthal A1 with organic cotton ball wick. I set the bottom of the coil even with the deck and bent it slightly out towards the wall and lined up an air hole with the coil. I get good vapor with it but the flavor is very pungent, this is a light tobacco liquid but almost tastes like sweaty socks with this build. I have experienced this taste before on other attys so I know it is a setup thing but it has been so long ago that I do not recall what causes it, hot spots maybe? Been over a year since I made something with a hot spot but everything I try here gets them. I can't see them, but I can sure taste them if that's what it is. Sometimes we can learn as much about what not to do as what to do from seeing someone else's mistakes or experiments. Hopefully that is the case here.

I will be playing with it more today. Pedestrian build entry:

Have you resolved the taste problem? For me, taste is never an issue with the Strata. Did you get all the oil out of the air channels?

Now that all the preorders have been delivered, I'm going to end the contest on Friday May 16th, which should give everyone time to put up their build tutorials. I'll start sorting them out over the next few weeks as they are dispersed throughout this thread.

The Prizes are the first 26650's to roll off the assembly line and will be numbered and initialed by me, so don't miss out on your chance to win one!

Just a reminder that the contest ends today at Midnight, central time. So if you have any last minute entries, post them up. Remember that an entry can be a detailed description of your build with some pics, it doesn't have to be a video.

The prizes are Qty 3 26650 mods with some custom touches and singed inside by me. Don't miss out on the chance to own a unique and rare mod!

Okay, I'll bite - and be all trendy.

Today I built a dual coil ELA Strata with Vapin Donuts and Koh Gen Do cotton. I had purchased some 1.25-1.5 ohm Donuts and my cotton arrived yesterday. Perfect timing.

First I made the loops on the Donut leads.

Then I mounted them within the Strata and trimmed the wires. The resistance of this dual Donut configuration is .8 ohms.

After the fact I discovered I should have paid more attention to the orientation of the loops. As you can see in the top view picture above, if I had planned better it would have been easier and had more space behind the Donut to cram cotton between the wires. But it all worked out.

I cut a couple strips of cotton of indeterminate size, thinking more was better. Using a toothpick I maneuvered the cotton down in between the posts and the Donuts and into the well, discovering that this part was far easier when the cotton was juicy. Then I trimmed the excess wick and poked around at the cotton until it was to my liking.

I thought to myself Self, it would probably be good to lift the donuts up as far as possible and slightly angle them towards the center post, thinking about how the airflow would be.

This easy setup vapes great! However, the Bearded Rip guy's assessment of how the Donut takes a long while to heat up is accurate. It does, but once it gets going they're plenty responsive and hot! The massive ELA Strata gets toasty!

If a Donut intrigues you it will certainly work in a Strata. The one thing I'm not particularly satisfied with (as usual) is the cotton. Where's my throat hit? Why do I think of socks?

Thanks for the entries everyone! I'll put together all the entries and make a random drawing Sunday night for the two units that go to those who submitted build tutorials. As you'll recall, theres a third unit up for grabs too that i'll open for entries on Monday for. Details to follow on that.

Hey guys n gals,

I just couldn't find time to get mine in. I made several videos after I got my first Strata to show my experiences and build types, posted links here and on the Pit but wanted to do a more professional detailed build for this contest. Good luck to everyone who entered and hope everyone is still enjoying their Strata. I would still like to see a few modifications / additions down the road from Super T (vs a 3rd party)

- 2 piece centre post....a threaded shaft to elongate the centre post a few mm, finished with a normal slot or allen head screw. Maximize the space.

- Slotted neg screws...I have huge hands.

- Side air entry top cap....will be a huge hit for those that bought a strata and don't use it due to current design.

That's it. That's my 2cents. KCVO gang.

Ryan.

Congrats to all! :)

Curious, what is the improved button design?

Machined a relief on the inside of the lock ring to decrease the break in time of the button. Provides for a much smoother button action right out of the gate without having to break it in to get your smooth button action. We've been shipping them for a few weeks now with the redesign.
