Okay, I'll bite - and be all trendy.
Today I built a dual coil ELA Strata with Vapin Donuts and Koh Gen Do cotton. I had purchased some 1.25-1.5 ohm Donuts and my cotton arrived yesterday. Perfect timing.
First I made the loops on the Donut leads.
Then I mounted them within the Strata and trimmed the wires. The resistance of this dual Donut configuration is .8 ohms.
After the fact I discovered I should have paid more attention to the orientation of the loops. As you can see in the top view picture above, if I had planned better it would have been easier and had more space behind the Donut to cram cotton between the wires. But it all worked out.
I cut a couple strips of cotton of indeterminate size, thinking more was better. Using a toothpick I maneuvered the cotton down in between the posts and the Donuts and into the well, discovering that this part was far easier when the cotton was juicy. Then I trimmed the excess wick and poked around at the cotton until it was to my liking.
I thought to myself Self, it would probably be good to lift the donuts up as far as possible and slightly angle them towards the center post, thinking about how the airflow would be.
This easy setup vapes great! However, the Bearded Rip guy's assessment of how the Donut takes a long while to heat up is accurate. It does, but once it gets going they're plenty responsive and hot! The massive ELA Strata gets toasty!
If a Donut intrigues you it will certainly work in a Strata. The one thing I'm not particularly satisfied with (as usual) is the cotton. Where's my throat hit? Why do I think of socks?
