I have a eLeaf iStick Pico 75W and it is my first vape. I bought it about 6 months ago from a local tobacco store and have had few problems since. I changed the coil once it started to burn and taste really bad and switched it for a higher resistance coil that came with the kit. Some people on the forum have suggested that you need to prime the coil and change wattage when doing this but keeping it at its default 60W seemed to be fine. However, I recently got new vape juice after running out of my first juice and every time I first start to vape after not vaping for a few hours the vapor tastes horrendous and it burns almost as bad as a heavy cigarette. It seems that after a "warm-up" period the juice seems to become less viscous and starts to produce more vapor. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? (side note) The coil was just changed 3 months ago but i haven't used the vape until about 3 days ago. (2nd side note) The new juice I am using is from Vapor State and is the 6mg tropical punch flavor.

Yes, you *must* prime a new coil and turn the wattage down to break it in. Once you scorch your wick it won't work as well and will taste like crap and there's no way to save it. It may work intermittently but it's not wicking properly. Don't measure coil life in units of time, but rather in the volume of liquid that's gone through it. For example, I use probably 15-20ml of liquid before I want to change my wick, or as soon as I notice a drop in flavor regardless of the volume of liquid used or time gone by. If you put the .75 ohm coil (think that's what the higher ohm coil in that kit is) in and fired it at 60w right out the gate without priming it is toast and you need a new coil. Preferably a pack or two, it's always better to have some on hand.

Um, is it possible that your prior juice was "masking" a burnt taste that was going on from the start of running a MTL coil at 60 watts.

Your coils have the resistance printed on the side, you should NEVER go higher than the maker's highest recommended wattage (and many folks stay *below* the lowest recommended wattage). I think you are simply burning your coils (and juice) by running them too high, and it's possible you didn't really notice the burnt taste until a less flavorful (or at least different) juice came along. With that said, some juices burn more easily than others, often due to added sweeteners or ingredients, etc., so it could be that wattage doesn't work with that JUICE.

This is why priming coils is recommended-- when any variables change, they all may, and what may be a "sweet spot" for one juice could be an unmitigated disaster for another.

The "Just running it at 60 coz that's what I'm used to" does not really work, in the long run.

I'm assuming that the tank that came with your device is the Melo III, which comes with 0.3 and 0.5 Ohm coils. These are Eleaf EC coils. They are narrow and fit within the Melo III's chimney. The chimney's two wicking slots are at the bottom, which means a fresh coil used without priming is sure to burn unless you let a full tank sit for an hour or more. Hitting it at 60 Watts without priming almost surely toasted it.

All new coils should be primed, but coils for tanks like the Melo III absolutely have to be. Once they're primed and broken in, they perform pretty well at 40-ish Watts. I have pushed mine to 60+ and I could tell that the coil was headed for a very short life, so I backed off to 38-ish.

The Melo III also has a hidden airflow and that design means that it is suited for both mouth-to-lung, low wattage vaping and higher wattage sub-Ohm vaping that calls for direct lung hits. While it can do both well, it does neither great.

If you really like 60 Watts or higher, you'll need a different tank. The only tank that does 60+ well (for me) and fits the Pico is the Baby Beast with one of the multi-coil heads in the T and X series or the RBA kit. The vapor and tank will get very warm in a hurry, though.

I wouldn't be running Eleaf coils at 60w.

I use the 0.3 and 0.5 versions. 40w on a good day, more realistically nearer 30w.

Sure, you might get lucky at 50w for 5 puffs or so.
Flavor and coil life are both good south of 40 Watts. It's a nice vape, but this ain't no cloud chucker.
