Switching from smoking to vaping -- a sort of poll

I smoked Cowboy Killers for almost 15 years. I tried vapping with Blu mini's and honestly they didn't help at all. I think it was because there was no throat hit, and when I needed my nicotine fix, the batteries would die forcing me to go back to real cigarettes. December 20th, 2013, I bought a gen 2 battery/clearomizer combo from a local ecig store, and sometime around 3am New Years Day (as I was up partying all night), I smoked my last real cigarette.

I will say that the ego style ecig was a major difference from the Blu. Even though the Blu made me feel like I was "smoking" I was still itching for a real cigarette. So far with my ego style gen 2, I still have those urges, but nowhere near as bad as I did with my first vaping experience.

I posed the same question to another user of the 'additive free' ciggs in a different thread. I believe it was partially because of the lower amount of additives and partially because I smoked < 1/2 pad. That, coupled with the fact that I really wanted to quit, didn't like smoking anymore and found a good juice to start with made quitting quite easy for me.

I just started Vaping 13 days ago. I am doing this to quit smoking Camel cigs that I have smoked for 16 years. It's been hard for me because my wife smokes also and she isn't ready to quit. I have probably only smoked 5 of her regular smokes which is pretty good since I used to smoke 1 to 1 and a half packs a day.

I haven't had a cigarette in 2 days now, and I'm determined to stay with the vaping only.

I am one that picked up a starter kit and never "lit" up again. 37 years of a pack to p and a half a day. Tried to quit more times than I can count.
I decided to give vaping a try. Mid day I went and spent my weekly cig allowance on a starter kit, and steeled myself for what I thought was coming (a few unsuccessful cold turkey attempts). I made it to bedtime pretty easily.

The next morning wasn't to bad, I knew I had 2 cig's in the pack out in the car if it came down to it, so I kept sipping my coffee and pushing the button as I puffed and puffed.

The beginning of month #6 is a couple of days away...and I still have those 2 now crispy stale cigs.

I smoked the nastiest, most additive riddled tobacco there was and switched over 100% in 1 day

I personally think the people having trouble switching want the PV to exactly duplicate smoking which it cannot. It is close for sure but not exact. I think the people having issues do not really want to switch off of analogs and do not allow them a chance. They just need to realize that it won't be identical just like Coke and Diet Coke taste completely different. The people that have the hardest time seem to be stuck on finding a "tobacco" flavor that most closely resembles what they are smoking. Time to cut the old beliefs and start a new life style. If they don't "cheat" then they will transition easier and more completely.

I would have to second this! If you really "want" to quit analogs, this is the best alternative I have found. I had tried everything short of a bullet and had very little glimmer of success until I bought my first setup ( eGo vv2 with a Kanger EVOD tank). I sampled some of the "tobacco" juices and nowhere near the real thing. The guy I bought my kit from suggested trying something minty or candy tasting. That was the ticket! I loved the mint AND the candy. I went with a 24mg spearmint and a smarties candy tasting juice and dropped the analogs after I finished the three I had left (damned if I was going to throw away those expensive .......s). It has been over 6 weeks now and I have a selection of juice favors in different tanks and change according to my whim at the time. It has been a life changing experience for not only me but my family. My wife and children have not known a time I didn't smoke and they are amazed as much as me that it has stuck this long. I love it and don't intend on going back for anything! You just have to want to and stick to your conviction! Vape on my friend! :headbang:

I had cut down to Marlboro 72 lights before my transition to vaping. I still had a half pack of analogs and still smoked 1 or 2 a day until I finished the pack while supplementing with vaping. I only slipped once and bought a pack when family troubles gave me insomnia so at 3AM I went and bought another pack and smoked 2 that night. I kept the pack and had 1 a night until they were finished and since then have not touched another analog for 3 months now. I sometimes get urges but it is very slight even around people smoking analogs.

I had talked to one of the guys that used to work with me about his cig-alike he always had with him and picked up one the next day (jan 19th,2013),used it until the battery died and picked up the rechargeable kit the next day. I went all week constantly having to make sure the batteries were charged or charging while I was at work and grew tired of that, picked up my first kit that weekend.

I haven't looked back since and it's almost a year I've been stinky free and have my last pack of Marlboro Blue 72's in my lunchbox as a reminder of what I gave up after 29 years.

I smoked half a back a day for over 20 years. two draws into an ego-c and aspire bdc had me throwing that pack away. Keep in mind, I wanted to quit cigarettes. Some people don't want to quit them so it is harder to make the switch.

Just ordered me a MVP 2.0 and Vamo for the heck of it. Should get some good use out of them for quite some time, so that justifies the cost in my mind.

Additionally, it can be tough to find the right habit. Initially, I was undervaping, and suffering from some symptoms from nicotine withdrawal. One draw is near to one puff of a cigarette (in my mind) so vaping enough is going to be necessary to get the crave under control.

Like other people have said, you have to give it a chance.

Smoked a pack a day of Marl lights. Made the switch easily about a week ago. Still have to fight the desire for an analog first thing in the morning but, that is about it.
I haven't been sleeping as we'll but, that. Could be because I vape too much at night just because I enjoy it.

I smoked a carton of Winstons per week (roughly a pack and a half a day) and had smoked for 47 years. Smoked my last one six weeks ago this morning on my way to a local B&M shop where I purchased a couple spinners, Iclear 16's and juice. A few more batteries, some Evods a pro tank and recently an MVP2 I'm still hanging in there.

Had a few really bad craving spells but all in all its been almost too easy...especially since I wasn't really expecting to quit any time soon. I remain puzzled but highly pleased any my success?? luck?? so far.

It took a month for me to transition. After getting the Vivi Nova, was using cartridges that came with my first kit, it was easier to let that last 1/2 cig at night go. Fear was the biggest factor. I was afraid of losing my best friend. You know....that one was there for me everyday through good times and especially through the bad times.

I didn't pressure myself to quit smoking, I celebrated how many I didn't have each day. That first day I didn't have 15 cigarettes. Two weeks into vaping, even with those cartridges, I didn't have 18 cigarettes a day. A day after I got my clearo, I didn't have 20 cigarettes a day!

I had 7 packs in my refrigerator that sat there from September of 2012 to February of 2013. I finally tossed them because we were moving from Pennsylvania to Florida and I wasn't going to bring them with me. I do have to admit to a moment of panic seeing them in the garbage can. They were there just in case and they would no longer be there for me.

I got over it in a few seconds. ;)

I smoked for over 30 years. I no longer smoke and haven't had a cigarette in 15 months. It feels GREAT!

I'm amazed at how easy it was to switch.
I was a 1/2 - 3/4 pack a day smoker for 25 years (also additive free, organic option brand).
I bought an e-cig at a convenience store, a rechargeable cartomizer 3 days later. I smoked 3 cigarettes after I bought that first disposable.
I have not craved a 'real' cigarette once since picking up electronics.
I don't think this new habit is healthy or safe, but I DO believe I have taken a major step in reducing the harm of tobacco smoke.

We did the same with the RYO's and made the switch in a day or two. (I vaped off Wades pipe for a day and decided I wanted my own set up. Way easier when ya do it together! We had been talking about quitting for a few months and had a few excuses to keep smoking, but when Wade got his ePipe, it was just what we both needed to make the switch! (That and both of us coming down with really nasty colds and it was going to bronchitis, so the switch was easy for that too!

Dave, moved form Nashville about 10 years ago.

Smoked Camel filters, over a pack a day for 27 years, switched over to vapping no problems, no withdrawals. My only problem is that I had this something missing feeling. This lead me to a quality VV device and then re-buildable atomizers. That took care of anything missing and gave me great gains over what tobacco could possibly offer.

I think inferior gear and low quality vape is the biggest handicap for those trying to quit. But once one gets into the advanced equipment, tobacco fades in the rearview mirror.

I smoked a big pack of 'heavy' smokes a day, about 25 sometimes more sometimes less (West or Chesterfield). I smoked for about 10 years, 5 of those 1 PAD. I made the switch in about a week but it wasn't free of the itch to light up at all. All I had to do was focus on the fact that I can vape and don't have to smoke and kept sucking up the 24mg with dry hits and a leaky atty like a madman.
I kind of liked the harsh throat hits back then because it reminded me of analogs.

I too had to get used to the difference in vaping, and had to let go of the old ways - there is nothing that would have tasted/felt like ciggs - but using a tobacco liquid was key - the flavours being too sweet and weird. And using a fluid level that was at least 18 had to be for the first months.
Now down to 12, hoping to get down some more. I had been smoker for also 25 years -pack a day. Still find when having "drinks" I think about an analog - but have stayed tough. Had one cigg puff about 2 weeks into to vaping and found it tasted ashy and bad. Not had one since and that was last February.

As I mentioned in my recent introductory post, I smoked for 30 years (mostly lights 100's of whatever I could afford), and made the transition to vaping in a day. I was actually embarrassed it was so easy.
In reference to your original thought about there possibly being a correlation between chemicals and ease of transition, I would guess that there might be, but there are so many other variables at work in that process (metabolism, psychological factors, etc.) that it would be near impossible to find out for sure.
