I used a 2½" length of ½" copper pipe, two end caps, a short piece of 0.496" OD compression spring, a ¼" phone jack, a bolt, insulating sleeve, an unidentified piece of hardware out of my junk bin and a 14500 battery.

I went to Lowes for copper pipe but the end caps they had were the exact same size as the pipe to where I could only solder the two together. Did your end caps just slip over? I have never worked with copper pipe fittings before.

You got the wrong pipe. Sounds like you may have grabbed a short section of 1/2" repair pipe that is meant to slip over standard 1/2" copper water tube. It is the same diameter as the caps.

I am interested in this, but quick question.... What is going on in the top cap? Where do you connect the ground for the atty connection? If you could explain how the atty connector fits in and what that red piece in the pictures is a little more that would be helpful. Thanks

The red piece is wire insulation. The machine screw simply screws into the insulation. This insulates the + side of the power loop. The entire body of the thing is ground. When you bolt or solder the phone jack to the top cap, the atomizer connector becomes grounded.

Here's a link to another mod that shows a slightly different way of setting up the + side of the power loop.
