I was slightly frustrated trying to update the firmware on mine. I tried loading the software on both a Win7 and Win10 machine and had the same issues.

It wouldn't recognize/load the device driver when I plugged it in. I found several methods online to correct this. What worked for me was to remove the battery from the device and plug it back in. Then, it loaded the Sxi USB driver.

So I was finally able to get it to recognize the device to upload the firmware, but only when the battery is out. If I have a battery in the mod, it will not recognize the device, even though the USB driver is loaded now.

I opened the firmware file, uploaded it, and should be good to go. However, the Sxi software still doesn't recognize the device to allow me to go into settings or anything like that. Only to load firmware. Maybe the device needs a battery in it to get into settings, etc, but mine won't recognize the device with the battery in it. Not really concerned about anything other than loading the firmware though, so I'm good to go.

It would be nice if they has software that worked as well/easily as Evolve. I spent probably 1.5 hours getting the firmware updated.

Very pleased with the mod though. Ordered a green stabwood last week. Should arrive this week.

What program did you use to open the Rar file? I received mine yesterday and plan on updating it tonight.

The quickest/easiest way for me was to use 7-Zip. I already had it installed on my work PC, but should be able to DL and install it without issues. Then just right clicked on the rar file and did an 'extract here'.

Good luck. I can follow the steps above once the YiHI USB driver gets loaded and it appears to work for me. No atty, no battery, and click fire button after connecting if you want to do something in the software other than update firmware.

It's possible I had problems with loading the USB driver due to the battery being in the mod as well.

One of my mods came with version 1.110 of the firmware, the stabwood I just received had 1.130 on it. The file they released in Sept for the atomizer short, etc should show as 1.173 or 1.175. I can't remember off hand.

To check firmware version, hold fire button down while screwing in the battery cap.

Enjoy the mod. I primarily squonk these days, but have gone back to using an RDTA for a few days so I can use the SL class.

Ok figured this out and it works on both of mine....

Got my new green stabwood today. Still (no atomizer), it won't connect to the PC with a battery installed). So I removed the battery, connected it and did the firmware update.

Then I pressed the fire button (with it still connected and no battery), and the warning icons for 'settings' and SxI disappeared. I can now get into those features and make changes.

Looks like for me:

1) No battery or atomizer
2) Connect and do firmware (if needed)
3) Press fire button after it connects
4) Can then access all of the features in the software.

Please try this and see if it works for you. I have two SLs that work in this manner. Hopefully this resolves it for you as well.

Really pleased with the mod especially the stabwood. However, the firmware updates and software need quite a bit of refinement. Updating a DNA chip with Escribe is like kindergarten compared to this, lol

I forgot to press Fire button and was getting frustrated not being able to go into Settings. It would be nice if they had instructions that made sense or any instructions at all.

Yep it was kind of painful the first time around. Didn't even figure out how to get into settings (press fire after connecting) until updating the firmware on my second device.

Honestly though, I was happy just to be able to update the firmware. Looking at settings, etc there's not a whole lot of functionality there compared to a DNA device.

Very nice mod and great chip, just no documentation and very non-intuitive software updating.

I’m in the Settings menu but the option to send it to the device isn’t highlighted.

Any tips?
Oh boy, sorry no. :(

I haven't tried to change anything via the software yet. Let me play around with it a bit and I'll post back if I figure it out. I'm guessing I will have the same issue as you. I just figured since I finally got into the setting page that I was actually good to go. Probably not.

A month or two of use:
Using the SX Mini SL Class on 'novice' has me smiling ear to ear.
The other day after returning a charged battery to it the settings had gone back to factory even though I'd done the 'save' action when setting it to my liking. A first, as typically it returns like I like it. 3 hours with no battery that time instead of the usual 1 or so.

One of these days I'll figure out how to use a satellite tv remote. Probably about that same time I'll figure out how to successfully change settings on purpose. Thusfar I've eventually landed at the right destinations to change stuff, but how I got there still eludes me. The microscopic print in the sphelte manual isn't very helpful.

Overall I really like the device, but if I was all technical minded it would've likely gotten flying lessons by now. I have sympathy for the temp control crowd. It's like the design engineers were the ones Microsoft fired for inventing Vista.

That is not to say this is a bad device. It's more like figuring out how to work on a Honda Civic. Once you figure out what the folks in lab coats were thinking it's pretty cool. But like navigating the HR menu at my giant corparation employer it aint always an instant "oh yeah I get it now".

I bought another 'state of the art' chipset device that rhymes with sack thinking it would be like my YiHi, only smaller. But unlike the YiHi much of any changes have to be done from a laptop. The YiHi does allow a simpleton like me to dial in my favorite settings by pushing a few buttons and using the joystick. But like I said I use novice mode.
