plschow--yup the ones i buy for vaccinating the pups are sterile disposables. as far as i can tell, the only diff between them and the 'human use' ones are 1) no one cares that you buy them and 2) they say "for veterinary use only" on the side.

that's funny. I've never seen one that said "for veterinary use only" and I've been working in Veterinary Hospitals for 30+ yrs. They also order from pharmaceutical companies though. I've seen that on medications but never syringes or needles (although I DO believe you :))

I've always ordered from either jefferspet.com or kvvet.com both have great prices. I usually get monoject brand since I use them for drawing blood and giving injections too and some of the other brands just aren't very good.

I just left the Tractor Supply Store in my town. If you have one of these in your area just go there. The syringes are actually on the shelf where you can pick what you want. They have from 16g to 22g needles and syringes from 3ml to 16ml. You have to buy each seperately. The needles (and they only stock sharp points) are $5.49 for a pack of 5 or $18.99 for a pack of 20. Syringes are $3.49 for a pack of 3 of the 3ml and on up depending on what size you want. I got the three pack of 6ml for $4.47.

No questions and no funny looks. Just go get what you want off the shelf and bring it to the counter and pay. Just that simple.

plschow--i get mine from jefferspet--though admittedly it's been about 2 years since i ordered last. 100 syringes goes a long way even with me vaccinating friends and family's pups.

I hear ya :). I don't order that often myself unless I really want to stock up. Usually just get a handful at a time from my vet. But when I'm working with a critically ill animal, I like to have lots on hand. My biggest problem is no matter what I order, it seems it's other sizes I need 8-o

As long as we keep telling people where they can get them inexpensively if they can't get locally, that's what matters.

It's amazing the uses we can come up with for these other than drawing blood, giving vaccines etc.

And our dogs and cats are happy we have found other uses and hope we use them ALL for these purposes.

Ha ha...mine would rather have me find a new exclusive use for the nail clippers... lol

re: dogs & needles vs dogs & nail clippers... ain't that the truth. my houla, because they got a treat after their last vaccine, kept running around in front of me to flop down into sitting-pretty-at-attention in the hopes of getting another shot. if it's just a subdermal, mine don't even know. on the other hand, nail clippers result in insanity. and once, in me looking like a psycho killer when i hit the Dreaded Vein. gusher! i'm glad we've got so much space fenced off that they can dig and run and wear their nails down naturally now... tho my older boys are gettin lazy.

i've been using 21 gauge needles and a 3mL syringe. and it *feels* like it's going in the right place, ie: angling the needle to the side to then fill.. but the two cartos i've filled this way have had, when i inhale to vape, a weird... whispery... airy sound. like whistling almost. not that overfilled gurgling, but just like i poked a hole somewhere i shouldn't have. the batting shouldn't matter and i know i didn't go down the center.. so i'm not sure what.

so the rest of my cartos waiting to be refilled i just did the old way, by popping the ring and stopper off, filling, spinning. which by now i can do pretty quickly... but i was hoping for the syringe method.
