Remove the battery, hold the wattage up button, plug in the USB and release the button. This is supposed to allow you access to reflash it.

As for the Cuboid, does the resistance jump around on the Lemo's too or just the Taifuns?

No but the Russian 3.0 and SQuape xDream did...

Any opinion on the SQuape xDream @ccwaters, ShenRay or SJMY versions? I never heard of SMJY.

Shenray Has been doing excellent clones,
I have quite a few from them, latest being the So Horny rda, I've absolutely no bad to say about them. SMJY I'll assume is AKA Dovpo, mods seem to do OK, I've only got one atomizer confirmed made by them, that is the Pico clone, which is done quite well. I'll probably buy the Shenray as I have more examples of the work they do and have been quite happy with it.

Since the advent of the firmware hacking/editing tool for the VTC mini came out I've probably flashed my mini a 3-4 hundred times, I'm guessing about half the time it bricks during an update, completely dead, won't do a thing.

The first time it happened I was really PO'd, tried everything I could think of except a re-flash, after about 10 minutes I tried to apply the firmware flash a second time, no problem and it worked perfectly.

Not sure why it bricks so often, I have a hunch it is something machine specific caused by IRQ timing and a comms issue. It happens so often to me I hit up the Joytech forums to see if I could find more info. Not much on it, though I did read some comments that leads me to believe it happens to others fairly regular. Also mentioned, Joy has actually programmed some protections into the bootloader which is said to make the process near impossible to permanently brick them. Short of physical damage they claim it to be virtually impossible to kill it.

Of the literally 100's of times mine has bricked a second, or occasional third attempt has always recovered it. I've never had an issue with it accepting a second or even a third reflash. I've also never had to do the button dance to recover, but it sounds like some sort of hard reset for the device.

Never bought another one Troll? other then the janky 510 they use its probably my favorite device I own.

I just finished Ultra Sonic cleaning (9) RTA's and (3) RDA's and placed them back in their respective box's to be stored away for maybe my Son-in-law (if his vaping progresses past buying coil heads for his STM that is). That leaves me (1) Lemo V1, (1) Lemo Drop, and (3) Taifun's that will be in my rotation for the foreseeable future. The Taifun has ruined me to all my other RTA's except for my Lemo V1's/Lemo Drops. I don't understand why the Taifun is not any more popular than it is. To me, the Taifun is a Serious, Quit Smoking :smokie:RTA, better than most, for that reason alone. But that is just my opinion, as always.
YES! this I know. I am not that advanced at vaping and sometimes have to read things twice, (OK maybe 3 times) because the lingo is not second nature to me. Everyone else I know changes gear so much and has so much new stuff to learn and I am perfectly happy with my Taifuns.
The only other thing I vape on is a Lemo drop built to .5 and it sits on my desk on an IPV2, I crank it to 30watts and vape it 2-3 times a day to blow my hair back a little :w00t::shock:

this whole post just lead credence to what I spoke above. I had to read it 4 times. Bricking? IRQ timing? Firmware? I have this little mod brand new and put away somewhere and now I am scared of it after reading this! I love the Taifun so I love this thread, also I really like all the peeps in here but I always feel so OUT OF MY LEAGUE.......

Just some computer lingo...as the regulated mods have a micro computer on the board. Some have the ability to upgrade the software (firmware). When that process goes terribly wrong the device no longer functions and has as much usefulness as a door stop, or brick.

Good to know, Thanks Troll. As for the Cuboid, I'll have to get back to you on that as it's been awhile since I've checked.

Edit: and my memory S U C K S.

Well Sir, I did what you advised and tried again. Wonder of Wonders, this time it worked  . I'll tell ya, I have flashed computer BIOS many times to update them on new builds and never had a problem at all (though I did read that if things went wrong with flashing a computer BIOS then we could count it as scrap after that. That's why I thought I had Killed my mini, but it is working again like it never lost a beat. Thanks again for the tip cc. :thumb:

It seems that you and I are about the same speed as far as RTA's go, just too damned much air in most things out there now to suit me. Depending on the day, and my med's, I can get so lost reading these threads  I end up just turning my computer OFF and go watch TV, so I know what you mean.

Many thanks CC!
I'll get the Shenray then for sure, I am not a fan of anything Dovpo...
dt-50 & FDV V3-1.jpg

Fixed it for a buddy.

Good to know that the Joyetech's can be brought back from a bricking, I have played with NFirmwareEditor adding the 1W stepping, AIO 3rd Line info and the reset saved resistance with no Atty to the Cuboid.

Adding the patches will overwrite the last two characters in the Block 1 image table, the half circle and the Vapor Giant logo, so apply the patches AFTER the resources to keep the patch from getting trashed.

I never did get another VTC Mini, I got a Cuboid and WeeLeaf Pico though...
I want to check out the single battery Boxer from 3F, it looks like a great little mod.

Always appreciate the info and advice!

Sorry about that, sometimes I forget not everyone is on the geeky side of technology. Joytech has seemingly made the mod/s with enough safeguards that it is very hard to damage them beyond repair, unless the damage is physical.

Bottom line it is very safe for almost anyone to update.

@TrollDragon I'm not 100% on the Dovpo part, sort of just a guess. The Pico atty is very well done clone and is from SMJY. Just that I do trust Shenray more to get the SQX right more then others. Since I'm not a huge fan of the Squape I'll probably wait for some feedback on it before purchasing. Bad thing is Focalecig is exclusively selling the Shenray, at least for now, and they are nearly as slow on shipping as Gearbest.

@52anddone Excellent, glad your VTC mini recovered! I've seen a handful of people having stability issues with the Cuboid, it is not exclusive to the Taifun, from the little info I've seen it just may be a little more fussy about resistance stability then other devices. My first guess would be 510 connector on cuboid is similar to the VTC mini and is not the greatest.

If all connections are good and clean and still causing problems, short of putting a quality connector on the Cuboid you may not be able to easily fix the issue. I would probably try a good clean of all connections, and check that your Taifuns have hard rubber o-rings supporting the 510 pin rather then the softer silicon ones. A couple of mine had silicon, replacing with the firmer o-ring seemed to help a little.

I've been checking the Boxer out also, now that I have settled on Taifun's as my RTA's I can really concentrate on power sources more.

I have read over on the Cuboid thread a post (with pictures and all) where a guy replaced the Joye 510 with a Varitube 510 I believe ( Joyetech Cuboid 150 watt ), and it worked good for the first day then started to act up again, so that might not be the solution to cure it either. With my Lemo V1 on my Cuboid the resistance will vary about .1 Ω (with Kanthal) so, not bad at all, but both my GT-V2-S and V2-T Taifun's will vary from 1.45Ω to 1.73Ω (latest example, also with Kanthal) when I initially screw down the tank, and if I unscrew and re-screw the tank, I will get a different reading. I can mount the same (2) Taifun's on my Sigelei mini 30, mini 50, or even my VTC mini (5) times in a row and get no more than a .1 Ω variance at most, so my Cuboid is definitely the odd man out. I'm thinking possibly a QC issue as not all have the same problem. I did so much screwing and unscrewing earlier that I think I sustained a sports injury (Tennis Elbow) but, it is for science after all, and now I know for sure what's going on. I'll try you're new o-ring suggestion anyway as the originals that come with the Taifun's are not the best, too spongy for my liking. I have some Metric 70 Duro Buna o-rings I got from Oringsandmore.Com that I will try.

I think I answered you in the above post to cc. I got all screwed up.

Edit: "I'll try you're new o-ring suggestion anyway as the originals that come with the Taifun's are not the best, too spongy for my liking." from above post, should read "I'll try you're new o-ring suggestion anyway as the originals that come with the Taifun Clones are not the best, too spongy for my liking."

I'm going to bed.
