. I vaped it down pretty low.I also read running some pieces of wick from the wick slots to the bottom of the base can help with flooding. Maybe that would cure yours
I will try that next time it happens. The more I read the more I am convinced it is all in the wick and orings.

Aw man. One of my oldest GTs just developed a short in the base. I went to take a hit and heard what I thought was the atty firing, but no vaporz!
Figured it was a short in the mod somewhere so I started to troubleshoot, and noticed that every time I hit the fire button on my old EA mod (side firing, pinky button) I saw a spark inside the air intake hole! Bah! Garrrr!!! I've seen how you can disassemble the base but I don't have the tools or strength to do that. I think I've got a spare base sitting around somewhere anyway.

Hi Roxy! Nice seeing you here. Didn't realize you were a Taifun owner.
I'll quickly add my two cents on flooding. I have the center airflow tube removed from mine along with the plastic bushing so there's just a hole under the coil where any excess liquid can run into. I was nervous about it getting flooded when I pulled the pin out, but I've never had a problem with it. I've heard of folks needing to put a bit of cotton under the liquid inlets to prop up the wick, but I found this wasn't necessary on my builds after some testing. I use either a 2.3 or 2.5 mm coil, kanthal A1, and cotton bacon for wick. I thread enough wick that it's quite fluffy on either side. After priming I mold the wick so that it forms a channel between the two inlets. After some experimentation with this to get the amount of wick just right it's working great. I don't have any flooding and I don't even get dry hits. I do not leave any wick hanging out of the inlets - I just bring it up to the inside of the chamber and make it snug enough to not move around, but not so snug that it has trouble wicking.
The Taifun is really great. I'm looking at a couple of other RTA's at the moment, but I'm most likely just going to buy a second TGT. Hence what led me to this thread. Happy vaping everyone.

That is further proof of the importance of a vacuum in every(?) rebuildable bottom tank atomizer. Gennies, and drippers don't the rest of them do.
I'm using a TGT clone now - it's really great and don't have any complaints, but I am considering getting an original. Is smokerstore the place to go for this? They are currently out of stock, but it looks like it's possible to put one together from the spare parts they sell. Has anyone done this? Any gotchas here? TIA.
My first one was $175 at a local B&M, doubt if I would go that route again though. The clones of the TGT seem to be pretty much HQ

Thanks! The clone I am using is from a B&M, and I'm not privy to where it was sourced. I have zero complaints about it since removing the airflow tube. I paid about $30 for it after some haggling, so not too bad. I like mine so much I am thinking about buying a second, and I figured why not get the original so I could compare for myself. The pointer is appreciated - thanks again.
EDIT: Couldn't resist. Checked out the new TGT with the AFC, and for $20 bucks it's worth a try.

I had to go check that out! Nice catch. This could be a game changer, particularly if it allows more air than in present configurations.

It is. When I first looked in July, they were running in the $180 range, and I said, ugh, no!
I recently picked up one of these and an Hciger clone from EVCigs. The Hcigar not only comes with the bigger air tube in it but the out side air hole is bigger too. Both are vaping great so far! First build and two tanks full through both. No flooding and no dry hits what so ever!
I'm liking them!!! Will probably have to get the bigger air tube for the original though at some point and maybe drill the outer hole like the clone has but not real big.
full 24 hours with more wicking material has done wonders for leakage. This last time I tried something I read in this thread. Instead of cutting off excess after threading through coil, I tucked it under so it was very thick at the outer holes. Working great
I've mentioned this before, I have bought two originals from Europe. Paid a lot. I have since bought 7 clones. I cannot tell any difference whatsoever, except that one clone does have the narrow slots. I've also bought several of the bases, that I keep coiled and wicked, so I can change flavorings on the fly, as I do a lot of DIY stuff. What I use the most of, though, are the extra tanks. I have purchased about 30 of them from Fattech and still have about 27 left. These are life savers when making numerous repeated flavor changes (without switching out the base/wick/coil), when mixing new flavors. Because the Taifun is so easy to refill and replace the tanks, I consider it to be the best all around RTA on the market. Once we have the AFC on the bases, I just don't see anything out there that going to replace these little jewels. Even though I have a 3.1 and hybrid, I still use the 23 mm Tai's on my Semo, without regret. Just a better vape, and the 5 ml tank is the best for my purposes. Only one or two refills a day, and the reason I use the RTA format.....I just cannot stand to drip......it's just too time consuming for me, given my predilection to chain vape.
