This photo shows the air hole (angled under edge of brass disc) and the positive screw with it's insulator (red arrow). The insulator can easily get out of place if positive screw is removed and disc turns. The air hole in the deck is jut above the screw driver's tip.

There are quite a few photos way back in this thread showing the inside of the base.

I replaced my stolen Taifun with one from AngelCigs. It's a Ivoogo one and sucks. The positive screw is crooked, chimney is loose and got stuck with that skinny wick hole :(

Waiting to hear back from them. That will be first and last order from them.

Is it the positive screw on the deck or the 510?

So my wicking is not right after all. Whoever said it is a fine art (Bill) said a mouthful. The tucking method I used for a couple days started to result in dry/burnt hits..too much wick? Back to the drawing board.

Chanel your GT probs sound like my PT probs. I'm getting consistent great builds from the GT, but every other PT coil is a train wreck.

If it helps here's a couple of pics of a recent GT build. I believe that's a 2.4 mm coil so the wick is more plentiful. It's gunked up pretty good from running 15ml or so through it, but don't mind that. This build had some crackle and pop, but no leaking and no dry hits. The build I am running now is much better using a 2 mm coil. The wick channels end up thinner on the smaller diameter coil as you would expect, but it wicks great. Maybe try some cotton bacon - it's been working great for me.

Wicking material may have more to do with the perfect wick than coil size or wick width. Compression in the wick allows you to use smaller coils for better vaporization AND larger wicks. The Japanese cottons and rayon allow this, but the KGD and others don't shrink like the rayon. I find it works best for me in the GT. I use a 1/16" microcoil (29g) and a wick size of 2.5x the coil width with KGD works close to perfectly. I rarely get flooding. Change wicks daily with my dark sweet CD juice. I extend the wick about 1mm beyond the slots. For the GT, this works much better than the cotton balls/coils I used to use. :2c:

Interesting and thanks for showing pic. I have now seen the smaller slots I have heard about and always wondered if that is what I have. It is not because mine are much wider.

I think my flooding problem is from not changing my wicks often enough. The last time I took it out with me, it was vaping fine at home. I topped it off before I left the house but didn't change the wick out. It was a couple of days old at the time. I don't think I could get more KGD through the coil. I think it all stems from using KFLs for so long. Didn't change wicks till the coil got gunked up and tasted burnt.

As far as Angle cigs, I ordered 5 Kayfun Mini's from them for my wife. I had to replace all the air control screws because they were to long and replace all the deck screws because they were to small and cheep. Luckily I had all the spair parts bags from my KFLs and R91s. I have also had to order full clear tanks for them because none of the fill ports work and I have to top fill them. The tank that came with them was so small that they would not allow the air bubble to go to the base when I turned it upside down to screw the top down. Flooded every time. They all were just way out of original spec. I do have an original mini and it works just fine out of the box.

Can you tell me what benefits an Orchid has? I have been hearing a lot about them and wonder if I need to get one. I usually rock Taifuns and rebuilt Protanks

Now here's my opinion on opening up a Taifun GT for big air flow, buy a Fogger, Orchid or Aqua instead. Just my opinion though.

I'm not trying to get massive air! Im just trying to get my original TGT to flow as much as my Hciger. I'm going to have to put them both under the microscope and see what the difference is. I haven't had them both broke down at the same time yet but did notice the external air hole size difference. I like the better flavor with the TGT and don't want to sacrifice that for massive air flow by any means!:2c:

Dual coil. Dead easy build deck similar to the plumeveil. Significantly wider (but non adjustable) airflow

Aha. Wonder if you can tell me which is the best clone to get? Fasttech has so many varieties.
Is a Vamo adequate to use or is this for sub ohm ing?
Thanks for your help

^^^ interesting wicking. I never gave it thought about not putting the wick into the slots but against them.

Yeah I don't know if it's right or wrong lol. Just how I've been doing it from the start and I've never had any problems with it. I also think it makes the atomizer look a bit cleaner so bonus there.

Where did you get yours?

I don't know - bought this one off the shelf from a B&M. I've been meaning to go back and ask if they could tell me where they sourced it. Aside from the internal airflow tube being too tight for me all other proportions on this one have been great. I would definitely buy another.

For me it's not about trying to get huge clouds. From the store it wasn't working in a way that was enjoyable for me, so after a couple of tanks I decided it was time to fix it or toss it. Just yanking that airflow tube worked great for me and I've been happy with it since. Just about making your device work for ya. I think Craig's point though was that there are other devices that may get you what you want without breaking out the drill; which is a good point.

The discussions section of the Fasttech product pages sometimes offer good insights. I don't think any of the RTA's are considered exclusively for sub-ohm builds. Dual coils will of course split the resistance, so you have to build each to a higher resistance if you want to avoid going under whatever the limit is for your Vamo.

IMO the best one so far is the V4, new at Focal (just came out yesterday). It has all the mods they've done since the V1 (not ready for primetime IMO) plus the taller chimney that would allow you to use taller Kayfun tank parts for more capacity. And you'd need the extra capacity for the Orchid, because it's a juice hog.

Did a test today! Changed my wicks and filled my TGT and clone. Took my daughter to the orthodontist office for about half an hour. The clone started gurgling on the way home and leaking by the time I got in the house. The original was fine the whole time. Then took the original with me to the grocery store too. Still fine. So, since I re wicked and refilled them both the same, at the same time I'm guessing that Hciger uses lesser o-rings. I will know for sure when my o-ring kits get here from Germany. Maybe that's why the draw is looser????

By the way, the clone is vapping fine now that I'm home!
