Hey guys, I got a taifun gt last week and built on it but I am noticing almost no flavor. I have a single coil with 28 kanthal around a 2mm drill bit. Like say I try Hawksauce, I get a little of the menthol flavor but not much else. I do taste a bit of metal I guess I would say. I did clean the rta when I got it with soap and water. I am using japanese cotton also with it.

My nautilus mini gives tons more flavor.

I can get muted flavoring when I use too much wick. There really is a Goldilocks zone on wick size. Too much, no flavor/vapor. Too little, leaking. Try reducing the wick width and see if that does the trick. I get terrific flavoring from my GT's and have quite a large collection at this point. Good luck! :toast:

Are you using only mount baker Vapor Juice?
Did you wash it?

I mostly use MBV ejuice but I have others and they are the same in flavor. Like you can sort of taste it but not really. I do get a slight hint of metal when I am vaping on it. I am going to rewick right now and will see how it turns out, I am going to try to use less wick this time. Thanks

Ok I rewicked and now it is much much better. I can actually taste the Hawk sauce other then the menthol or mint or whatever it is. I forgot but when watching a youtube vid on this, the guy doubled up on the cotton to stop leaking so I have a piece of silica ontop of the coil, I took that off, put some new stuff on which was shorter and alot less and wow, the flavor is here. No leaking yet and it only gurgled for the first 2 seconds of the first puff. :)

Anyone know where I can find replacement post screws for the taifun gt? I got mine from angelcigs and it was an Ivogo version. I set it down for a couple of days and when I took it apart to clean it, I noticed the top part of the +/- screw had turned the juice into a reddish color (rust). Don't wanna vape that lol. Thanks

Not sure on the size. Ace Hardware has stainless steel ones in M3, but not smaller. They have pretty big heads on them though so take the whole base with you to the store. Make sure any bolts you buy aren't touching the chimney.

Here's some photos of a current build. Apologies for the grungy coil; it's at least a month old and needs to be replaced. But I remembered that some folks might appreciate a few build photos in here, so here's what works for me. 28 gauge, 5 wraps around a 2.4mm bit. It's no longer a contact coil, but it started life that way. Rayon is the wicking material.

Got my six packs of Orings today. Replacing all that I did not replace over the weekend. Less than 20 bucks and hopefully I will put an end to leaky Taifun Fever.
This leaking Taifun story might just be for you.
This is for the large, top o-ring. (17 mm x 1.5 mm)
My friend bought a Taifun GT clone on Ebay, it almost looks like FT's "B' but is not.
He had it sitting straight up on a Hana clone mod and in a days time all the juice ran out the air hole. Upon examination I discovered that when screwing on the top/chimney I could not feel the "drag" of the o-ring when it got together that far. A closer look reveled a much larger groove in the tank end. I replaced the o-ring with an SAE one that looked to be just a "hair" thicker. I could feel the "drag' after that. It's easy enough to check it.

There has to be a few of them out there with this defect then.

The SAE o-ring that I used for this fix is A016 5/8" x 3/4" x 1/16" at top of tank.
These are listed as #240 3/4" O.D. x 5/8" I.D. x 1/16 at Home Depot

More than a few, it seems. Of the 3 Taifun GT clones I've bought so far (all made by HCigar), one had a dead short somewhere in the base, and all had sloppy O-ring grooves in the main chimney (i.e. the part that allegedly slides down for access to the build deck). I finally got one to sort-of work, but it has a tendency to gurgle & flood.

Oddly enough, HCigar makes a really excellent Taifun GS clone. Don't know why they can't make a decent GT...

Nice pics. I do a similar build, but use 8 wraps to bring it up to 1.0 ohms. I also reverse the position of the coil so that it is in between the posts and closer to the airflow.

The AFC version of the GT arrived the other day. Don't have any pics to post yet, but thought I would throw out initial impressions.

Threads, build quality, etc seem decent. Gave it a soapy bath followed by a vodka soak and there have been no taste issues.

Shredded the chimney top cap oring just by unscrewing it from the chimney, but thankfully they provide replacement orings in the box. The wick openings in the coil chamber are very sharp on mine - sure this is the cause of the tear. Gently screwing in the cap with the replacement oring seems to have avoided tearing up a second one at least for now. I may try to sand those down a bit if it happens again.

The wick openings are also way bigger on this one. I have not tried my usual method of just bringing the wicks up the inside of the chamber wall - using what most others here do instead, which is to feed the ends of the wicks through the openings. I think most folks will consider the bigger holes a good thing since I've heard people say they needed to bore out the smaller ones I have on my first GT.

Lastly airflow...The draw is tighter with the airflow tube installed and AFC set to the highest airflow than it is on my other clone with the tube removed. However, the airflow tube is quite a bit larger than the one installed on my original GT, so I haven't ripped it out. Turning the AFC down to the lowest setting tightens up the draw significantly, but it's still usable and most likely where some folks will want it dialed in. I don't notice much difference between the two highest settings.

Overall pretty nice. I may still end up trying to open up the airflow further, but for now I'm leaving as is and it's working pretty well.

Forgot to mention - there is an oring on the bottom of the positive post (510 connection) on this model. My other clone doesn't have that. It's a welcome addition - I have not had any joose leak through the 510 connection on this guy yet, whereas on my other clone there's always a small amount pooled in the 510 connection of my mod. Very cool.

I got the o-ring in that I ordered from Smokers store in Germany and replaced them on my Hcigar Taifun now all is good!!! No runs or drips while out and about like before. I ordered 5 sets of o-ring and each pack has 2 sets in it so I now have 10 full sets of original replacements. The collar slides up and holds like it's supposed to. The only down side is, like I suspected earlier, the draw tightened up a little.

Get new o-rings. Mine did the gurgling and leaking. All is well after I changing them!

I did some modifications to my taifun gt. I removed the center pin and the plastic bushing, drilled the side air flow out with a 7/64 bit and counter sunk that as well. The draw is pretty solid but now it sounds like it has a bad case of asthma and it is wheezing and whistling as well. I also need to replace the 510 o-ring because I'm getting juice leakage coming out of the bottom pin as well. This is very frustrating cause I'm not sure what to do. Do I chamfer more or drill a bigger hole in the center of the deck? Maybe I just need to wick it better I don't know, but I hate to just give up on this. I really like the flavor that it gives (maybe better than my drippers) and the vapor production is fantastic for a RTA. HELP!!! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414306073.533743.jpg

The youtube video I watched suggested 5/64 (1.98 mm) for the external airflow hole. I believe the inner airflow hole with the tube and bushing removed is about 2mm. If you're pulling more air from the external hole with a smaller internal hole I suppose it could cause whistling. Or maybe you still have some leftover plastic from the bushing in the path. Perhaps some of the GT vets will be able to offer better advice on where to go from here.

Re: juice leakage, my original GT didn't come with a 510 oring and it likes to pool a little juice in the 510 connection of my mod. This hasn't caused me any major grief yet (no excessive leaking), but I have been enjoying no leaks on the newer GT that has a working 510 oring.

Craig's awesome blog post has the down low on ring replacements:
