The AFC version of the GT arrived the other day. Don't have any pics to post yet, but thought I would throw out initial impressions.
Threads, build quality, etc seem decent. Gave it a soapy bath followed by a vodka soak and there have been no taste issues.
Shredded the chimney top cap oring just by unscrewing it from the chimney, but thankfully they provide replacement orings in the box. The wick openings in the coil chamber are very sharp on mine - sure this is the cause of the tear. Gently screwing in the cap with the replacement oring seems to have avoided tearing up a second one at least for now. I may try to sand those down a bit if it happens again.
The wick openings are also way bigger on this one. I have not tried my usual method of just bringing the wicks up the inside of the chamber wall - using what most others here do instead, which is to feed the ends of the wicks through the openings. I think most folks will consider the bigger holes a good thing since I've heard people say they needed to bore out the smaller ones I have on my first GT.
Lastly airflow...The draw is tighter with the airflow tube installed and AFC set to the highest airflow than it is on my other clone with the tube removed. However, the airflow tube is quite a bit larger than the one installed on my original GT, so I haven't ripped it out. Turning the AFC down to the lowest setting tightens up the draw significantly, but it's still usable and most likely where some folks will want it dialed in. I don't notice much difference between the two highest settings.
Overall pretty nice. I may still end up trying to open up the airflow further, but for now I'm leaving as is and it's working pretty well.
Forgot to mention - there is an oring on the bottom of the positive post (510 connection) on this model. My other clone doesn't have that. It's a welcome addition - I have not had any joose leak through the 510 connection on this guy yet, whereas on my other clone there's always a small amount pooled in the 510 connection of my mod. Very cool.
