Using KGD wick material, I have found that the wicks work great with a thick 7mm wick or a thinner 12 mm wick, or pretty much anything in between. I eyeball it because I have a good feel for the density. Since KGD splits off in layers, there's a wide variety in widths because of the variety in thicknesses of the wick. I'll bet they all pretty much have about the same material, though, as described. I have not had a leak since using the KGD now for six months at the slots. I come through the slots between 2.5 and 3 mm, again depending on thickness, and never so long as to be in the threads at the base of the tank. The longer the wick comes out of the slots and the wider/denser it is also ensure that I never get dry hits. With my wicks like this, I can vape my juice all the way until it no longer wicks at all, and then some before a dry hit. The dry hit is my reminder to fill the tank probably most of the time. I've used them all, wicking materials that is, and, for me, nothing surpasses the KGD, including Rayon and ceramic. Regular cotton does not approach KGD, imho. But, others have had good experiences with all these materials, so I know it's all about individual preferences and tastes. To each their own. Good luck! :toast: :D

I split a KGD pad in two. Taking that into account you say I should be starting with aprox 12MM? That is almost 1/2 an inch? I do not think I use anywhere near that amount. Probably much closer to 3mm. If all this is true I am using way to little KGD. I am building on .70 and usually 7/8 wraps so I use the rule of thumb of cutting about the size it looks like it needs to go in easily and not pull the topper.

Yes, and that's why it leaks!

General rule of thumb is twice the diameter of the coils, O.D. With KGD, this can be even more, due to its excellent compression. My wicks work beautifully and never leak. I took the 7 mm and 12 mm measurements off actual wicks I use, keeping in mind that they are extremes on both ends of the range, for me. If I did use less than 7 mm, I guarantee you mine would leak probably half the time. The thinner pads can go as high as 12 mm, the thicker no more than 7 mm, with everything else in between. This is where I have found my sweet spot. Again, mine don't leak and wick perfectly, so my guess is that yours are too small? I'll see if I can get around to a picture at magnification for the next post. :toast:

Ok, took a couple of pics:

20141226_163515.jpg20141226_163529.jpg20141226_163521.jpg20141226_163844.jpg

The wicks look enormous compared with the coil. However, KGD is a padded material, so it is spread out in its presentation. When compressed and wetted slightly, as you see in the fourth picture, it does feed into the coil without much effort, and without distorting the coil. Sometimes the ends of my wick are 15 mm wide with KGD after the slots. Both the 7 mm and 12 mm in the pictures compress to about the same size and fit into the coils, the thickness being the primary difference. The TMC microcoil is 1/16" I.D. Even so, works fine, feeds fine, and never, ever leaks.

The general rule of twice the O.D. does apply more to rolled cotton, or cotton balls, not to KGD, due to layout and compression differences. Some folks insist that you should not twist or roll your wicks. Hasn't been a problem for me and KGD, though. :toast: :D

I have no KGD but I do have some cellulose pad that I'm trying so I followed Bill's advice as it would be for the thin stuff, about 12 mm wide.
I have the best performance to date with my TGT II, it has officially surpassed my K4. But I plan to re-wick the K4 the same way so things just might change.

ETA: I've tried trimming fat wicks such that it just presses against the wick hole, but doesn't actually go through it. It does work well, but I've found that it's not consistent in the sense that if you're like me and bring multiple ATTIES along and kinda just dump them in a bag, random jolts and bumps can accidentally knock the wick outta position, and it'll end up leaking. That's been my experience so far

I used to do this, but for the same reason as you I've gone back to threading wick through the slots. It did allow very nice wicking, but just too easy to bounce it out of place and get leaking. I found it wasn't worth it for me.

Yes the KGD has become my precious too. It just works so well. I was happily using cotton bacon before that and ordered some KGD on a whim. My poor cotton bacon hasn't seen a coil since the box of KGD arrived.

So I ordered an XS Tank from SmokerStore and it arrived yesterday. I know the point is that it's shorter, but damn it doesn't hold much juice. I filled it up to just below the top of the chimney cap and the juice level sits just barely above the wick. I vaped it down in about an hour. I'll have another go at this, but for now this tank is just going to act as a backup in case I break the glass on the normal tank. Looks really badass though, so there's that. ;)

Try again, you can get both tanks, large or small to just about completely full with care by overfilling very slowly. As long as you don't break the surface tension at the chimney pipe, you can overfill and I can get within perhaps a mm, maybe less, from full to the very top. Don't usually do this, but sometimes, just to make the point, and see what I can do (I'm bored), I'll try this...and it works, LOL....:toast:

I bit. Not expecting much but they seem to have the original TGT sussed out (aside from the ones with the super narrow wick slots) so maybe they've got it (fairly) right. We'll see!

It only took me a few seconds to get it into my cart, along with the 5 pk. of PC tanks, no problem for me not being glass. I hope they fit the original as well, I can't imagine they won't.
Also I hope that it was because they were in a hurry to list it and just didn't get the spares listed but includes them.
