Ah. Makes sense. Thanks.Well 10 watts is not all that much power, it will heat up quicker.

For both GT2 and kayfun 5 I use the same coil - 3 mm (I like more cotton), 28 ga, 1.4 ohm. They work fine. I strongly believe more cotton = less leaking. My GT2 never leaks, as well as my cheaper clone of kayfun 5. A bit more expensive K5 clone still leaks occasionally, but it may be some defect or O-ring.
My best answer is my coil is pretty much identical in both, wick too.
For that wattage I think I'd be using 30 gauge but if that works for ya......
On the K5:What kind of coil are you running, btw too? Diameter, gauge, ohms, and volts or watts if you don't mind.
9-14W. Wicks stay clean for at least 2 weeks. I use only slightly flavored juice. What voltage or wattage are you running that 3mm 28ga 1.4ohm coil at? Also, do your wicks scorch?
On the K5:
2 strands twisted 28 gauge SS 430, 2.7 id, 7 wraps, 50 watt preheat for 1 second then 40 watts. 3.9 ohms cold. Using 75pg/25 vg.
On the TGT2, same but 38 watts, no preheat
Are you running temp control? What voltage or wattage are you running that 3mm 28ga 1.4ohm coil at? Also, do your wicks scorch?
75% PG!? OuchOn the K5:

I'd say it's a 0.39Ω build not 3.9Ω...Holy crap. I obviously didn't realize what I was asking. So my guess is you're running temp control? Is that the reason for the SS? Why the twisted wire over just a larger gauge? I'll be honest, I can't comprehend how your coil works. 3.9ohms at 40watts? You're pushing 12.5 volts! What's the concept behind this build, if you don't mind explaining a bit further?

75% PG!? Ouch
VaporBase consists of a palm-based Glycerol, a corn-based Glycol, and a tobacco-based Nicotine extract. Each ingredient is USP grade quality in order to adhere to the standards of making high quality e-liquids. VaporBase is 100% PG free.
Haha! That would make more sense.
I'd assume typo here and a misplaced decimal point.
Indeed, anything over 30PG tears my throat up. Though I did just order a free sample of the following alternative to PG
Can someone suggest a coil build for my TGTII?
Currently to do 7 slighly spaced wraps of 28ga kanthal around a 2mm rod, yielding 1.5 ohms. I wick with rayon through the coil so that it barely drags, kinda squeaking and vibrating. I trim it to about 1mm sticking out of the chamber, and I soak it with 60/40 vg/pg. I vape at 3.8 volts on a Provari Mini, giving me 9.6 watts at 2.5 amps.
At the end of each day, my wick is dark and nasty, and my coil is covered in gunk. It tastes bad, and just dry burning and re-wicking doesn't give me a clean flavor, so I just change both the coil and wick each night. I'm now thinking this doesn't really qualify as a working build if I have to change it out everyday.
Everyone seems to be running much higher wattage these days, and I can't understand how. I could set mine to 5.5 volts to get 20 watts at 3.6 amps, but I have no doubt I'd scorch the wick in under am hour and it'd get nasty.
What am I doing wrong?
I'd be interested to know how the PG alternative works out. I have a really hard time with even 50/50 nowadays, since I mix everything at 70vg/30pg now. (though my juice mixing skills are pretty lame.... But I can follow a recipe like a gold medalist!)
I do still buy five pawns castle long (the only retail juice I buy pretty much with any regularity) and its 50/50 in 6mg and I have to vape it at a lower temp usually and can't put it in a tank with large air flow (aromamizer, Griffin, etc) just too harsh for me. Plus those tanks drink juice! My Taifun or kayfun 5 not so much.
@dwcraig1 has a throat of steel! LMAO [emoji23]

That sounds more like a wicking issue than anything. I'd make sure your rayon is fluffy and not packed down before you try to feed it thru the coil- and I'd also try to have more rayon in the actual cool as it is supposed to shrink. At least that's what I've read.

I go through 10-15ml a day typically.Whats your daily juice consumption? I typically go through 15-30ml a day of some pretty gunky juice and typically get a couple days out of a build before flavor change forces a rewick, weeks on a coil but have to clean it occasionally.
Sweetener some flavors are worse then others. I think your first clue is the mention of scorched wick fairly quickly. Sounds to me like you just don't have the flow to keep your wick wet. I'd be experimenting with some different builds.
My preferred kanthal for Taifun type tanks is a .26g around .8 ohms power typically 18-24ish watts. Though the closest I really come to the Taifun any more is the Hurricane Junior which is built lower with more power.
First recommendation is to lose the old school wick through slots method, while it can wick well that way it is more critical you get the proper amount of material in those slots.
Much easier to manage consistently good wicking using the following method. Can't remember if this was 3mm ID coil, think it was.
Simply put your wick through the coils, cut it about the length shown Grab the ends and sort of fold/push them into the chamber, leaving the shoulders puffy and against the chamber slots. wick density is not hugely important, but the thinner the juice the more dense the wick.
Wicking properly your 1.5 ohm build should run up around 18-20 watts with no dry hits/burning pretty much sounds like a case of not enough juice flow to me.

I wick in the same way, but with cotton and longer wick tails, so that chamber is mostly filled with cotton, except for the channel around a coil for airflow.I'll let you know my thoughts on it, they have a free sample button you can get a 30ml bottle of 6mg base for about $3.00 (they charge for shipping) They claim to use NicSelect nicotine so that should be OK think I saw $30 for 500ml of 100mg, so $60 a liter is not horrible if its decent stuff. I'm having issues over the winter months with VG depositing on everything in my Vape room, and hoping this may cut down on the accumulation.
As mentioned PG causes me throat issues (difficulty in swallowing) over 30PG, and if I vape more then normal even in lesser amounts. A year or two ago none of the above were really issues but as gear advances and consumption goes up both throat irritation and mess from condensation in my home have worsened.
I'm fairly skeptical it will change much, but for the small investment it is worth a shot.
