I'm looking for something to use to seal CE2's into a tank mod. I've got 10ft of 3/8" OD 5/8" ID polycarbonate tubing and for the life of me cannot find anything usable to seal these things with. If you've already got a lathe for other things that you need it for, that's great that you can turn blank rods of acetal, but buying a lathe just to make end caps or plugs isn't a route I'm willing to go.

From what I've gathered, it needs to be acetal/delrin, acrylic, or even certain silicone types. Maybe even stainless with a seal? At any rate, if anyone has a source for this, please feel free to help me out here.

Thanks in advance.

All the seals used in the CE2 are silicone. Maybe you could Google for silicone seals/washers and find some.

My search was unsuccessful. I did find plumbing supply houses that sold nylon, but they are hard washers. Looks like its neoprene or nylon most places.

I don't know exactly what you are trying to do, but the CE2 would fit any 510 female thread mounted on the outside of the mod. You could screw the CE2 on and off for a quick change. You are trying to use the CE2 inside the mod?

Yeah, I'm looking for some seals that would work for a 5/8" inside diameter tube. Something like a MAP Tank. I would prefer to use stainless steel plugs with seals that will seat inside of the polycarbonate tubing and seal the CE2 into tank. I've seen some mods like this, but I would imagine people are turning these themselves on a lathe. I will have to ask around the work place if anyone has a lathe to turn some of these plugs.

I think I will go that route until I can find someone with a lathe that can turn some SS caps for me. I found a great polycarbonate tubing supply for a really good price and they ship this stuff to you in a giant reinforced cardboard tube. I see people cutting this stuff with Dremels and leaving nasty marred edges on them, but I just took a cheap pipe-cutter to it and it leaves a perfect edge and perfect cut.

I see a lot of people using only one of these beveled washers, but I think I will use a seal press with a slightly over sized metal washer in between the two plastic washers to heat and mash the two together, leaving a gap around the outside for a double seal on the inside of the tubing. I will post pictures to show what I'm getting at.

These washers seem to be made out of nylon or vinyl. Is this safe for juice? I always thought that juice would leech from those materials.

Jivefle, Can you post the link for the tubing? Thanks.

I am sure he got the tubing from here:
McMaster-Carr
That is where I got my 7/8"OD x 3/4"ID polycarbonate tubing, and it came with in a day! In a nice big cardboard shipping tube.
Hope this helps.

jivefly, i got white delrin rods (food grade) from here:

DELRIN® ROD from Aircraft Spruce

super cheap, fast shipping. delrin is very easy to cut and shape. i think you quoted your dimensions wrong though? 3/8 od - 5/8 id? how is that possible? I have some 5/8 od 3/8" id polycarb tubing, and i can tell you from experience that the OD of a metal CE2 tube is just shy of fitting, which means a 3/8" delrin rod diameter around the CE2 is going to end up like a washer. very thin outer wall. I love the size of the 5/8's tube and am still working on a 'fit' for the ce2 when i have time. map tanks and bottle mods are just too huge for my taste. 5/8 is perfect size and more than enough juice for a day.

How about this material.....is this safe?
McMaster-Carr
High-temperature flexible grommets are silicone with a temperature range of –60° to +500° F. Color is red-orange. Use indoors and outdoors

Part number 9307K16

According to this chemical compatibility guide from Cole-Parmer, Buna-N rubber, which those are made of, gets an A-rating (A=excellent; no softening, loss of strength, or swelling will occur) for both glyerin and propylene glycol. So, I would say probably, and in fact I will be picking up a pack of those, except in 5/8" OD.
