That's how the protank2 is and it has been working great for a week now. Way easier to clean out than a whole wick, and the absorb time is much shorter. Since the protank2 is a bottom coil, the juice is all around the bottom, you don't need a long wick like you do with top coil atomizers, which wick the juice up like a straw. I am new too, but that is my understanding, somebody correct me if I am wrong.
I am not sure what type of tank you received, but it sounds like it is probably a bottom coil, if not then I would try to figure out how else it would be getting juice to the coil if not being wicked. Maybe some futuristic quantum physics stuff going on.

I just got a tank setup from Fasttech. It seems to only have a teeny, tiny wick. That's not like anything I have ever seen before. I mean just a nub...barely enough to see. Is this normal? Do I need to go in search of some wick material?
while it's not uncommon to have very short wick material, it does kind of defeat the purpose of what a wick does...

Ya thats just a bottom coil design. They have short wicks because the juice is fed using gravity and doesn't have to be pulled upwards like a ce4 or vivi nova atomizer.

Alot of people call them flavor wicks and remove one of the two or three to improve the wicking (the amount of juice directed towards the coil).

Don't worry about it that's how they are suppose to look and have a good day.

that's a copy of a ProTank, which has "flavor wick" - it's not there to carry juice a distance to the coil, but to sort of "regulate" the flow. If there's not enough, you'd get "flooding" of the wick, and sometimes there's too much, and juice can't get past it to the coil fast enough to prevent some burning. But it's supposed to be just sticking out like that!
A lot of devices use the same type of coil/head/core: the EVOD and all the ProTanks...
Let us know if you have any flavor or "juice flow" trouble - there are a lot of threads discussing "tweaks" to getting a ProTank working just right.
