Hey guys, I am looking to switch from protanks to rebuildable tanks but every one I research leaks if you lay it over. Looks like the Ithaka will not leak, but it requires nonres wire and I don't want to get into that.

So is there a rebuildable tank that will not leak when carried around upside down in a backpack, and does not require nonres?

Thanks

Kayfuns WILL leak if laid on their side, but only when the tank is around half full or less.... What happens is the air bubble will go down to one side and get sucked into the chamber via the juice channels. This causes liquid to poor out from the air hole. That's been my experience at least.

In fact, this is what the Kayfun user manual says:

"Minor leaks may also happen if the tank is filled halfway while Kayfun Lite is lying horizontally or with mouthpiece tilted down for some time. In this case, one of the grooves (1h) could be at the top "in the air" and another one at the bottom dipped into e-liquid.
In this case the air will escape from evaporation chamber through the top groove and e- liquid will flow from the tank to the evaporation chamber through the bottom groove. Naturally this process stops as soon as both grooves are covered with e-liquid. Make sure that both grooves are always covered with e-liquid, keep Kayfun Lite horizontally"

The Taifun GT doesn't leak on it's side - not even at low juice levels, based on my experience. And...it's a remarkable vape.

my protanks refitted with areobases never leak...

Mine do... but the juice stays captured inside the aerobase. I bet if you swab inside your base with a q-tip you'll find some juice. Your point is valid though, juice doesn't leak OUT and all over the place, that is... unless you go from hot to cold temps. That's the only time I've had juice come out of the air holes on the aerobase. ;)

KFL shouldn't leak unless low on juice and on its side. Completely inverted, it does not leak unless you have a bad unit. It is sometimes useful or necessary to carry it this way when you have a major temp (going inside and outside in the winter) or elevation (driving up a mountain) change as pressure changes can cause your tank to flood resulting in juice down the air hole.

I believe that the authentic Kayfun 3.1 has a juice cup to catch this where the KFL has nowhere to leak except out the air hole. I may be completely wrong on that as I don't have a 3.1.

If you rebuild your Protank and keep fiddling with it, you can get it just right where it doesn't leak and I store them all on their sides. The cartos I have leak or start to gurgle if not paid attention to after 24 hours or so because I use dual punched. My KF 3.1 Clone doesn't leak either. But, since I just jinxed my self, bring on the leaks. Have you tried rebuilding your protanks with cotton?

Yeah I rebuild my protank heads. They never leak and are basically care free devices. But from what I've read, they are not as good of a vape as rebuildables. So I'm looking to "dive deeper".

Looks like the Kayfun types are pretty leakproof. I just can't put faith in a genesis type with all those holes.

HCigar Kayfun 3.1 1:1 clone doesn't leak here UNLESS I have too much wick in it clogging the juice channels.
Just make sure when building wicks and positioning them that the air channels are not blocked...this way even if the chamber floods a bit when left sitting on the side for a while...most of the liquid should go back into the tank when returned upright again (instead of flooding over the deck and down the air hole).

I also rebuild heads for the stock Vivi Nova Rev 2.5. These can flood and leak if left sitting a long time and there is too much wick, otherwise they don't.
To stop flooding/leaking make sure not to have too much space around the wick slots:
1. Trim the wicks shorter.
2. Use thinner wicks down into the tank (I.E. 1mm leads instead of 2 or 3mm).

I'll just be another reporting that my KFL+ clones don't leak, and they spend a lot of time on their sides. Sometimes they get a gurgle if they lay in their sides with low liquid levels, but that's easily cleared by vaping upside down for a few puffs. I've never gotten leaking out of the air hole except the few times I tried filling from the top. The authentic didn't seem to leak either, but I only had it about a week.
