I still have yet to get my first e-cig, and I'm considering mixing my own e-juice, but I read somewhere here a couple of days ago that the technique for vaping is different from smoking analogs. But then today I read a post that said they used a similar technique to analogs. Lung vs mouth inhaling...

Is there a "correct" way of inhaling?

What way do you find most pleasing and satisfying?

Hi Chani ... I had a heck of a time when I first started out getting any TYPE of throat hit. Then I discovered how to vape: you first take the vapor into your mouth (rather than directly to your lungs), and then take a small hit of air with your mouth open a bit to pull the whole thing into your lungs. I think this will make sense once you actually have your pv.

So instead of opening your mouth normally like when you take a drag off an analog, you just open it a little? Otherwise it sounds like a normal drag.

I French inhale too. Seems to help get more flavor.

Draw into your mouth and inhale into your nose? That's French inhaling, right? Or am I getting that wrong?

Whatever works for you is the answer. If you don't direct inhale it will help to lessen the throat hit of vaping (take the vapour in as though using a cigar, and then inhale all at once). If you feel you need a greater throat hit, direct inhaling like a cigarette will help with that.

Other techniques include taking the vapour into your mouth like a cigar then breathing in through your nose. Some will inhale through the mouth then exhale through the nose for maximum mucus membrane contact. Some french inhale. Some hold it in until there's almost no visible vapour.

Most common is probably taking it in like a cigar then taking it all in at once. It's a cooler throat hit that tends to be more satisfying.

Chanti, it sounds like you smoke the way you should vape. Shoot ... when I was smoking, I took it from mouth to lungs without opening my mouth to draw air in. Actually, in reading all these posts, it sounds like we're trying to "complicate an orgasm" with this amount of detail. Just wait till you get your pv ... you'll probably find vaping to come naturally!

You buy a manual ecig. Press the button in 1-2 seconds early, start dragging slowly, just before the end of the drag you let up the button, complete the drag, inhale

Agree completely. If I feel I need a stronger hit I hold the button down longer. Push 1-2 secs, begin inhaling while holding down for another 3-5 secs and just before I finish inhaling I release the button. Love the control of manual batts.

Thanks!

That still wouldn't have answered my original question, though. What I was confused about is HOW to take a drag, not how long. I wonder if maybe that post should be updated...

Hmmm...I hope I'll get enough out of a PV when I get it. I already take long drags. Then again, I smoke light 100s (Camel Blue 99s).

Ah, I see. Newbies often wonder why they're not getting any satisfaction. It takes longer for nic to absorb with PVs since they don't have 4000 chemicals to get you hooked.

I think everyone else pretty much covered it. Hold the button down and vape.

Good luck on your vaping experience. Hope you enjoy it. If you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask.

Some people drag directly into their lungs. Most people drag into their mouth, then inhale it. Some people who are used to smoking pipes and cigars don't inhale at all. For any of the above you need some way to smell the vapor on some drags or you will miss a lot of the flavor - you can french some vapor (left it drift out of your mouth and inhale in your nose), or you can exhale through your nose.

But basically, if you are a smoker you know how to smoke. If you are using auto batteries you may need a fake primer drag then a real drag, or take 2 drags into your mouth then inhale because autos don't make it as easy to get a good hit. With manuals, you press the button in early (1-2 seconds early), start dragging slowly, let up the button just before the end of the drag, finish drag, inhale (or don't inhale, or inhale while dragging - whatever you want, but most people drag into their mouth, then inhale)
