Hey Lika, Thanks! I am 76657. By the way the account thing did not help.

Well, I didn't want to bother anybody so I tried a few times but I don't think it added me. My zip is 76013 if you can add me please. You can just put me down beside Franklyspeaking as we are mere streets away from each other...Thanks for the help!

Added you guys :)

-------------------------------------------

To all: I'm kind of like J W in that I don't like asking others to do stuff for me. I'm sure there are others like us too. So I thought I'd post what I've found with our funky cool friend we know as Mr. Google Maps. Hopefully someone will find it helpful. :)

-------------------------------------------

You must have a Google account to add yourself. So if you don't go ahead and ask one of us to add you. We don't mind. Promise ;)

If you do have a Google account you'll need to sign in to add yourself. There's an "edit" button that needs to be clicked before the blue water drop displays. Or at least that's how it's working for me.

Here's the steps I take:

1. Open the map by following Menolly's link. This one.

2. Sign on to Google if not already signed in.

3. Wait while all the elements on the page loads (might be just me, but it takes a few seconds).

4. You should see two scroll bar sections below the Google Maps logo on teh left side of the page. In the first (top) section you should see "Created by others" and "Tejas Vapin'" should be checked. If there are other maps there uncheck them.

5. In the second section click "Edit" and you'll see an edit toolbar open near the top left of the map.

6. Look at the top left of the page just under the Google Maps logo and find the "Get Directions" link. Click it an enter your zip code in the "B" field. Click the "Get Directions" button.

7. This should close the two scrolled sections on the left side of the page and show your location on the map with a dark green "B" marker. The map will be zoomed in to your location.

8. The edit toolbar should still be open over the top left of the map. Click the blue marker (upside down water drop) once. Maneuver your mouse to drag the blue marker near the green "B" marker. Click your mouse button to set the marker.

9. The two scroll sections on the left will re-appear. A title and description box will pop up. Fill in the fields on this box with the info you want. Click "OK"

9. Scroll to the bottom of the second (bottom) section and verify you entry has been placed. The scroll back up and click "SAVE"

10. If needed, your location can be modified by either clicking on the blue marker on the map or your name in the list on the left.

11. When finished click "DONE" to close the edit options and toolbar.

-------------------------------------------

05-01-2009 Update: Today I had trouble adding a member as described above. When I went to get directions the edit options disappeared completely so I couldn't add the marker the way I usually do... Strange. I had to find the location, remember where it was. Reopen the map with the link and place the marker. I guess Google's got the giggles or something.

-------------------------------------------

I apologize for the length and detail. I am a web/software analyst/QA tester so writing test plans is my profession. ;)

Google isn't perfect by any means. I had been looking for a website that some forums I was on about....5 years ago would use for mapping- that was made specifically for forums and such. I still can't remember what it was or find it, so google maps was my next choice. If anybody finds a better solution- I'm really to put some work into transferring locations over.
