I smoked a pack a day for 15 years. After I hit 30, I could feel the effects in my lungs, and started having a horrible smokers cough and difficulty breathing during daily tasks. Soon I started hearing of ecigs and seeing disposables pop up in gas stations. I tried one, and while it wasn't great, it was fun and I thought it might work. So I went online and bought a 510 kit. I loved it and was off the cigs in a few days. After a couple months, I bought an ego battery. I stayed with different versions of those for a couple of years until I won a Vamo, and now I finally have the shiny-itis that everyone talks about, haha. Now I'm using an MVP for my daily vape and constantly on the search for what I might try next. I just bought my first rebuildable and some wire and wick, so wish me luck!

As far as what to do for vaping beginners, I think it's important to have a lot of options at different price points (which I think you guys do a good job of that). I know when I first started, I didn't want to spend a lot. Now I feel like I've earned it.

Thanks for the contest!

The horrible smoker's cough. When you start vaping it completely goes away for the most part. You don't awake with yourself gasping for air or a bad dry scratch in your throat that starts you hacking and makes you dizzy. If that there is not some real world evidence that vaping is better for you you don't get much more convincing than that!

I smoked a pack and a half per day for about 43 years. Ever those years I tried to quit numerous times using everything possible.

About five years ago, I tried a cig-a-like kit from a B&M. It didn't work, but showed me the possibilities. For the next few years, I tried different cig-a-like kits, but still wasn't satisfied.

Last December, I found an ego type kit, and it was so much better. Bought some bad juices and some Protanks and a Spinner, and was able to get off cigarettes. From there I graduated to good juices, VV/VW mods, rebuildable toppers and mech mods. Now it's easy to stay off cigarettes!

For The Record I Have To Say A Monkey Made Me Do It.

But in reality after 35 or so years of smoking it was just time. So i picked up a 808 kit from the gas station (1/25/13) and decided that i was gonna make this work. I hadn't tried any other methods other than cold turkey in the past and it even worked twice,,,,,,,,,, for a while.

I had 1/2 a pack of my ole trusty Pall Mall filters. When they were gone. about 2 days that was the last i smoked

I went on the internet and started researching and was completely blow away by all the stuff and had a hard time figuring it all out. And decided I would just stick with the 808's and bought some stuff from,,,,,,,,, OH i don't even remember now.

But after more researching and finally deciding to join up on ECF, after most searched lead me here anyway. I began to expand My horizons and venture into more advanced devices and trying out different juices, done some DIYing of juice and collecting mods, now i got piles of both and want more.

thanks for the contest, good luck every one

Thanks for the opportunity! Here's my story:

I had been smoking cigarettes for around 11-12 years when I first heard about vaping, and I immediately thought that it was the way I was going to quit smoking. Of course this was all from hearing advertisements on the radio, which were likely for cig-a-likes since I remember thinking one puff was equal to smoking a whole cigarette  Even though I wanted to try vaping I just never got around to buying one, and then about 10 months ago my mom got a free cig-a-like in the mail. She liked it enough that she bought a low quality eGo starter kit from a smoke shop/gas station, which I ended up trying out one night. After I had tested it out I decided to buy one for myself, so I just bought the same kit she had. As soon as I got home with it I smoked a cigarette while I was setting it all up, and that was the last cigarette I ever smoked! :D

After a few days of no cigarettes (and only vaping) my eGo battery started to malfunction (it wouldn't fire when the clearomizer was attached), and I had to drive around 30 miles (back to the smoke shop/gas station) to get it replaced since it was the only one I had. Even though I was extremely frustrated with vaping at that particular moment I didn't let myself smoke a cigarette, even though I had a 1½ packs left. After it was replaced I didn't have any more problems, other than mediocre vape quality, and I stupidly even bought a second kit like the first one. Soon after buying the second one I decided to do some research online, and I found a bunch of videos/reviews recommending Halo. So I bought a Halo Triton starter kit and a bottle of Halo's Turkish Tobacco, and compared to the cheap eGo/clearo I was using the Triton was amazing (I didn't like the Turkish Tobacco at first). I used the Triton's for about a two months, and during those two months I joined ECF.

Joining ECF changed everything (I'm sure most would agree), and after reading a ton of different threads I eventually decided to upgrade my equipment. So I started a thread asking about what VV/VW device I should buy. I got a lot of great recommendations, and I ended up deciding on the iTaste SVD. At the same time I ordered two Protank 2's, some AW IMR 18490's, a Nitecore i4 v2, and some Kanthal/Wicking material. After that my vaping journey slowed down quite a bit, all that has happened in the 5-6 months since then is my first SVD failed and was replaced. In that time the only things I've bought (besides e-juice/coils) are an MVP 2.0, two Mini Protank 2's, and two more Protank 2's. I also just recently started rebuilding my Protank 2 coils, I've only finished a few so far, and none have been particularly great, but I'm getting better :)

Oh and funnily enough Halo's Turkish Tobacco has been my ADV for over 6 months now, even though I didn't like it in the beginning

tl;dr = I QUIT SMOKING! :vapor:

I smoked a pipe, cigars and cigarettes for 20 years and had never been able to quit in the past. My grandfather died of lung cancer from tobacco cigarettes, cant stand the how it smells during and after smoking tobacco products and the outrageous cost of tobacco products still was not enough to make me quit completely. I started using electronic vapor products 2 years ago and was able to quit all 3 of my previous tobacco addictions.I started out with joyetech 510 then moved up to ego-c and ego-cc. In the last few months, i have moved into mech mods, drippers and now i am on my first rbta. I am looking at my first box mod to see what that is like. I learned alot by this process as it allowed me to stay off the stinkies as i moved forward.

It's my Husband's fault ;)

He had cancer surgery back ..let's do the math..30 years ago. He had quite a lot of really disfiguring work done to his head and neck, and during the operation he had a heap of transfusions. He learned to cope and speak and eat and all that good stuff, but along with the transfusions, he was gifted with a nasty little bug, Hep C. They told him at the VA three years ago he would need a liver transplant, and although he smoked way way less than I did, about 5 a day to my pack and a half, he had to give them up. I figured it was fair that I did too, I mean I have tried to quit lots of times surrounded by smokers, and it's hard! We had both been long time smokers, he started back in the Marines, so 18, but I think I was younger than that. We are in our 60's now *ack*

So, I went looking. He can't chew gum, having only half a lower jaw, and could not tolerate the patches, so a late night web search brought me to ECF, and here we are.

He still vapes, not much, but now and then, at 0mg. Has done from about 3 months after he started. He got listed for a liver, and was very lucky to get one, and has done well since. I started at about 36, and can't seem to get lower than 24. We started out with a couple of 901's. Man was that irritating, straw modding and all. I moved on to a Riva 510, with Boge's and so did he. The last of those batteries died, and that is when I discovered they were not available any more. I am using Ego style now, and in the last bunch of 3 , 2 have failed in less than a month. I have a vivi nova which leaks like a sieve, and no luck with batteries so, I'm looking for ideas on where to go. It's a pity I can't post in the newbies thread anymore, I feel like one when I start researching alternatives. That brought me here :)

It's interesting, reading others stories, where they were, and how they got here to where they are today. :)

Before Blu even existed (to my knowledge I guess), a friend mentioned ecigs to me and we went to the mall where there was a kiosk and I tried one out. I had tried and failed at quitting smoking numerous times already, so why not try something else. I was intrigued by the idea and I really wanted it to work so much that I knew I was already going to buy it regardless. The flavor was ok as it was tobacco and it worked ok at best. I used it for maybe two weeks before throwing into a drawer and forgetting about it. I just not got into routine with it. Found it later in the year and ordered some different flavors and had a little better success with a red bull and cherry flavor. But again, didn't do well as it wasn't satisfying enough. Fast forward a few years and two of my friends were trying ecigs and they had egos and they were filling their own tanks. I was intrigued but based on my experiences I didnt expect them to last long either as they were heavier smokers than me. They stuck with it for longer than me but then gave up. About a year later they both got back into it again and they had some better devices (ego twist and a evic) and I started asking them more and more about them getting curious myself.
I bought a blu and tried that, it was ok, but I wanted better flavors. Went to the local shop on recommendation of my friends and got some vision nano tanks and liquid and was running those on the blu batteries and it was working good for me. I got tired of the batteries being weak and bought some egos direct from china real cheap as well as more nano tanks. I was ordering once a month from china because I was getting "deals" and would stock up on some liquids at the local shop. Eventually I found this forum and then found GotVapes. The hardware selection and prices were great and i moved up to stardust clearos and tried some liquids. Everything was great but I needed more still, I wanted better. I found another liquid vendor and got hooked on their flavors and that they had VG (sorry GotVapes, PG sensetive over here). I just wanted to try anything that sounded amazing to me. Then I discovered PBusardo and his reviews and was intrigued by these devices known as the "ProVari" and "Kayfun". Got a provari for my birthday and got curious on the rebuildables, so I attempted a mini bully rda and it was pretty good and I could see how easy building was. Enter the kayfun and then everything just got better exponentially and the collect grew just as fast.

One year later from point of trying a blu and I've got some ego bats, 2 provari minis, vaporshark rdna, makermods NES mod (upgraded to DNA40 myself), innokin cool fire II, cloupor T5 (sigh... wish they'd fix that update so I could have better battery life) and a silver steam vapor guitar pedal mod (sx350 chip) and a mess of RBAs (kayfun, magma, tobh, kayfun mini, smok xpure, smoke rsbt, origen). I love it all now and I really am getting my satisfaction now and havent had a cigarette in over a year now!

Wow. I wrote that all without a vape... *insert vapor here* ahhhhh, much better.

autobiogphnation....PBusardo! Thanks for mentioning him. I've been a fan of his since the crab juice video, we laughed ourselves silly over that one! He's been a big help for me, and has taken the mystery out of many things I did not get. The first time I tried out a Boge carto I thought the thing was going to blow up. Who new a crackling sizzling carto is a happy carto
