I've been having a similar experience this week. The first dry burn I did I forgot to rinse after the burn. YUCK! Next time I rinsed and rinsed, but I still had a burnt taste. The last one I did, this morning, didn't taste burnt--it didn't taste at all, no flavor whatsoever.

I'm going to try this procedure next and see if that doesn't help.

this is awesome i am totally giving this a try! thanks so much

If you dry burn, you gotta rewick. period.

It really depends on what wicking material you're using....
A "given": NEVER DRY-BURN COTTON!!
Silica SHOULD dry-burn "clean".....Ditto the new ReadyxWick....the latter is made to withstand temps of > 2000*F.!!!
Good Luck!
Happy (vaping) Trails!

What is your power souce?

As somebody mentioned there's the insulator grommet at the bottom which can get scorched when you dry burn.

I dryburn at 3 watts; its enough to turn the coil red but not too hot to fry the coil.

If you're using an mvp which starts at 6 watts; trying swithcing to vv mode and try 3 volts instead for dry burning. Maybe you're just scorching the grommet and ending up with the taste of the scorched grommet for a while after dryburning.

Oh! Nice set of pics to illustrate dryburning and rewicking!

im using my ego-t batteries on the second setting so not 100% sure what the voltage is for that setting, it was just what the guy at my local vape store reccommended. im looking into getting an mvp shortly though and will keep that in mind

Well try the first setting; the lowest setting; that should be about 3.2 volts or so.

Rince, soak in vodka, rince again, dry out, dry burn the coil, if all that doesn't work after one attempt I get frustrated and CHUCK the #$#% thing... I find with the Kanger Tanks it's hit and miss. Once the coil starts acting up or tank starts leaking (usually because of the coil) I give it one attempt to clean and fix and if that don't do it I just move on and get a new coil and it's back to happy vaping.

I've graduated and found myself using the kanger tanks less and less and have moved on to Hcigar Kayfun 3.1 Plus clones, better vape, better flavor, rebuildable coils are awesome, wick with some cotton. There is a bit of a learning curve to them building the coils correctly and to preferred ohm, getting the cotton wick right, and learning how to top fill it (best method) correctly but once you've got it down it's a new addiction and way better than my protanks.

Also picked up an Hcigar Nemesis Mech Mod and I'm heading towards the dark side... LOL...

Downside to a kayfun 3.1 plus is they tend to go through a good bit more ejuice than the protanks, but I'm finding it's worth it.
