Due to a recent rash of vapers using mech mods without proper knowledge. here is a simple test for vapers who want to use unregulated devices, if you can confidently answer these questions, you just may be ready to take the plunge to a mech or unregulated box mod. If you cannot answer all of the questions, don't be discouraged, use the test as a base for the knowledge you may need to acquire.

1. Define ohms law using a short paragraph, and show the equation below.

2. Define watts law using a short paragraph, and show the equation below

3. Draw a simple open circuit.

4. Draw a simple closed circuit

5. Find the resistance of a circuit running at 3.9 volts with a 20 amp current

6. Find the voltage of a circuit running at .54 ohms with a 5 amp current.

7. Find the wattage of a 4.1 volt circuit at 2.3 ohms

8. You are wrapping a dual coil set up, while pinching your coil with metal tweezers you accidentally press the fire button,
the leg of the coil you are wrapping fires bright and then disintegrates, why has this happened?

9. Your mechanical mod is getting extremely hot, is making odd noises, and has an odd smell, what is happening
and what is the procedure in this situation?

10. What is the lowest safe resistance of a 4.2v lithium ion battery rated at 20 amps?

11. You have been using a battery for several hours now, and have noticed a sharp decline in vapor production,
why is this happening?

12. You wrap a coil that reads .42 ohms on your multimeter, what important factor should be remembered while using this coil?

13. You are using 2 stacked 18350 lithium ion batteries in your mod, what kind of circuit is this? what changes because of this?
what does not change?

You forgot the most important question.

14. If you don't know the answer to one of the questions, what should you do?

Henry Ford :D

Most Safe Boaters cannot use a Sextant though many can use a compass and understand current/wind drift.
Good Private pilots mostly Fly VFR safely.

While I like the Intent of Ops post, it would lead many to think they need a degree in electronics to safely use a Mechanical mod which would be incorrect. They do however need a solid basic understanding of what they are doing and the proper equipment to assist in safe building and use. just my :2c: and 35+yrs working in Automotive DC electronics.

Not saying don't teach/share/learn - always educate where possible.

Simply saying we are a group of people of all occupational and educational levels, each with their particular learning capabilities.

is the test that complicated? most of them seem pretty simple to me, I designed the test with the intent to encompass all aspects of mech mod use. however I will admit that number 13 is not really relevant anymore due to better 18650 batteries, its still a good idea to know the answer.

I can't answer a majority of the questions there, and I've been vaping (using both regulated and mechs) for about 1.5 years. I consider myself better versed in safety than most employees at vape shops.

Also on a side note (but not really, since it regards safety), you know the Efests in your avatar are 20A, not 35? (assuming they're the 18650's)

yeah I do, I have recently replaced them with samsung 25rs actually, I don't wrap below .4 ohms

Good lord, if I had to know all that "by heart" I'd still be using a cigalike!

I use Steam Engine, so I don't need to carry all that math around in my head, where it wouldn't fit anyway. Too many words up there for any math to fit. :D

Andria
well hey as long as you know how to calculate it thats a-ok with me

Never heard of these. Typo? (18350) :)

Otherwise, I like the idea of a screening test such as this.

I'm not sure if you really need to understand Ohm's Law and explain/write out the formula. As long as you can competently utilize an Ohm's Law Calculator that should suffice.

Memorizing multiplication tables and knowing how to use a calculator = the same result.

its just an example of a battery, it goes back to when some people were stacking batteries in their mech mods, the point is to see if the vaper knows what happens to the batteries when they are stacked

Yeah I can calculate, and use a calculator... my problem is in remembering formulas, such as Ohm's Law. Stuff like that doesn't stick. And yes, my grades in geometry reflect that inability -- A, C, F -- does no good to remember the theorems if you can't remember the corollaries! But I couldn't even recall the theorems.

I have a particular problem with Ohm's Law because the letter-variables used don't correspond to the ENGLISH words for those properties, so no mnemonics are possible. Maybe it'd be easier if I spoke French.

But thank god for Steam Engine. Without it, I might not still be using cigalikes, but it's a safe bet I'd never have bought a Kayfun. :D
